What is a Boat Friend? Boat Friends are good people from around the world interested in discussing Great Lakes ships and other fun topics within a positive and stress-free environment.
This channel focuses on the following:
⚓️ Ships in Duluth: I primarily livestream and record videos of ships mostly in Duluth, Minnesota, as they go under the Aerial Lift Bridge. You will see many interesting vessels on Lake Superior and hear periodic updates about relevant maritime news stories and weather reports.
I’m just cruising around in the harbor right now over by the Saulte. I will be watching it. I was at the Vikings game on Sunday. It was unbelievable. Super exciting. Our defense is legit.
@@vibewithmike Do you plan on making a video or watching it? Also I think this is the first time you have ever seen this one. I changed my profile picture a little early
@Boatnerd22 I’ve seen this one before. Last year. No video, I’m just out here relaxing on the boat. How is your day going? I like the new profile picture a lot.
Excellent question, no, those gates that go down are the only thing that stops traffic. There’s also the red stoplight that come on. That’s it. Thank you for being part of the Boat friend community. Did you see the tour on board of 1000 foot ship I did? Take a look. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=gvr7CQDrnrVEPkrr
It is my absolute pleasure, I hope that you come back and subscribe. Take a look at this video of me giving a tour on 1000 foot ship. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=gvr7CQDrnrVEPkrr
This is definitely one of my favorite ships. Did you see that tour on board one of the ships? Check it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=xz6tt8eEEczoITKg
I’m an eejit. I just zoomed in on the Harbor Lookout & saw all those areas marked with the letter P, thanks to you, i know what they mean, cuz you made a point of showing me where visitors park while watching ships. Thanks.
The PRT is actually 1,013' 6". My father-in-law and one of his brothers worked on this. I got to ride it once and was in that "hotel room" the person was waiving from. It was amazing how smooth it was moving. I could only tell it was moving when I looked at the shore.
That is correct, there is that 6 inches. I think that’s fantastic that you were able to ride on that shit. I know about that room. A few of the other footers have that as well. It’s very cool. I really hope you subscribe and come back. There’s a lot of Great Lakes ship action. I will be covering both recorded videos on live streams. Here’s a video I recorded while being on one of the footers a few weeks ago. Tell me what you think, brother. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=X5rvykTzuUqQCvWo
I love New Orleans! I love Louisiana. I hope you are subscribed and you come back my friend. Did you see the on boardship video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=3UZpkpO64K4C78rk
Paul, hope everything is great there in Essex! Thank you so much for checking out the channel. I hope you are subscribed and you come back my friend. Did you see the on board-ship video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=3UZpkpO64K4C78rk
Mike! Great video. I love this On-Board series. I was just up in Door County for 5 days. We stayed in Sturgeon bay. It was awesome to see the shipyard there that made so many of the thousand foot vessels we see today. The Maritime Museum was also very well done there. At one time, the shipyard was producing a ship/vessel every 5 days during World War II. It's really amazing how shipbuilding technology has changed, and how navigation has improved so much with modern technology. It was also awesome going out and being on the water where Green Bay and Lake Michigan meet. Can't wait for your future ASC endeavors!
Can you imagine the craftsmanship at hard work and quick work to pump out a vessel every five days! That is absolutely amazing. And I know that the quality was fantastic because people had pride when they were building things. That’s absolutely amazing to think about.
I’m glad that you enjoyed the video. If there’s one video that I would like to point you too. Check this one out. This is when I went on board one of these thousand foot ships. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=soiVTGhOeNyRbd4r
I’m glad that you asked that question Matt, and the answer is, yes! Every time I go by that dock I think about the lives that were lost in the tragic event. It is a sad feeling however, I do see a different take on it as well. The lives that were saved, and how the industry changed to be safety first because of that incident. Thank you so much for watching the videos. I hope you’re subscribed and you come back, brother.
Unfortunately, I don’t think it ever will. Did you see the tour on one of these big ships? Take a look at this. I hope you are subscribe my friend. Come on back many more times. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=soiVTGhOeNyRbd4r
Hey Friend! Thanks for asking! I hope you had a great weekend. I’m just winding down my Sunday evening. It’s really nice receiving a comment from you. To answer your question, I use just a standard iPhone. Nothing super special. Those iPhones are pretty decent. I really hope that you subscribe and come back to check out some cool ship action. I hope I can hook you with this one. Tell me what you think about this video. I put out a few weeks ago. Right on the ship. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=2K4oafB6TWnVKADk
Thank you for responding.Mike.My only experience with that part of the Country was a trip to the UP at K I Sawyer AFB. Ice fishing, snowmobiles and the hospitality always made me wish that l could get back up there in the Fall. Your videos are fantastic. Very high quality and extremely interesting. Thanks Mike!
As a retired chief engineer I'm highly interested in the technical equipment, particularly the engine room. Could you give us a tour round the engine room of these ships?
I absolutely will do that for you! I plan on showing the living quarters and other areas of a vessel that all of us might be interested in seeing. I hope you subscribe and come back my friend. We are going to have some fun.
Mike, I just stumbled on a youtube about the predecessor to the lift bridge in Duluth. This is the Duluth aerial bridge built in about 1905. It was cheaper to build than the current lift bridge. I bet some people would now to pay to go on this trip or ride. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tnQxTDvabC0.html This also gives a somewhat history of the creation of the Duluth ship channel and bridge.
Thanks for the great tour! Looking forward to many more. I have a place up the shore from Two Harbors (30 miles up the shore from Duluth) & enjoy seeing these beasts sail by. Now it puts some scale to the size! Come up to show off the loading docks at Two Harbors sometime. They have a couple cameras anyone can tune into : Two Harbors Harbor Cam & Boat Launch Cam if anyone wants a different perspective of the boats coming & going.
Well, I’m glad that you enjoyed it my friend. I thought it would be really fun to show how many steps and how long it takes to go from one end of 1000 footer to the other. This is one of my favorite videos because I was able to show how powerful and beautiful these ships all are at the same time while aboard.
Spent many summer vacation in Chippewa Bay/Cedar Island Group...beautiful views, nonstop boat traffic, the loons talking at night...to stay all winter on the island would appeal to me...
John, I would love to get out in that area to check out some of the ships and just a beautiful surroundings. Did you see this ship tour video? I wanna make sure that you did it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=LPcmW0TYSSp6JFt9
George, I love the little bit of trivia that you were throwing out here! This is very fun. I’m going to let someone answer it and not spoil it. I know the answer. I love what you did here. Also, did you see the ship tour video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=LPcmW0TYSSp6JFt9
They can be very cold on the Great Lakes, but there’s a lot of safety that’s part of working on the ships. It’s a beautiful time of year actually when it’s cold.
@johnsanjeev2376 John, almost all other ship videos are just ambient sounds. No problem with that at all. However, my format I try to add ambient sounds in, but it’s all about the format like a live news reporter. You can’t have too much dead space. Again, I wanted to be different from everybody doing videos and create a different way of doing them specific to the live ship watching
It’s a very loud horn. I definitely don’t want you to miss this video from me being on a ship. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=JGPHTye25z2kT5Ed
Paul, also I don’t want you to miss this video if you haven’t seen it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=JGPHTye25z2kT5Ed

@@vibewithmike absolutely loved it. Spent a week around the north shore. Can’t wait to visit again! Got to see the Edgar B. Speer in Two Harbors as well
@stevenfernando9490 sounds like a fabulous trip. I’m glad. I want to make sure that you did see this video where I was on the ship and I show you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mvaC5q6cDNg.htmlsi=JGPHTye25z2kT5Ed
