I wonder What was the big deal and why were people offended by Derpy's apparent mental handicap she was the assistant of the smartest character on the show, she was obviously very competent it seems to me she was more unlucky than stupid like when she broke the stage by sitting on it.
How they made Derpy Hooves his assistant made me even more puzzled as to why people were offended when they thought Derpy was mentally handicapped. They certainly portrayed her as very competent at least around those she cares about.

Personally, I think Fluttershy should've had this big reveal about being part bat pony (like the ones Luna uses to pull her chariot) and being able to switch from form to form.
