Oh my goodness. I need to share this with my kid’s teachers. I can’t believe that he can spend an entire day in school like this. I’m so grateful to his educational therapist and for all of his accommodations. I’m so proud of how hard he works despite all of his challenges. Thank you for this amazingly insightful video.

Curious if you're familiar with primary dyslexia, secondary dyslexia and acquired dyslexia. Would love a video that. Many YT videos on that briefly explain the types but would love a deeper video.
Great question! We actually had a diagnostician answer that question in our latest webinar that you can view here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lbG_cIy7J-U.html
I can not read several peer reviewed papers I authored and presented at the National Academy of Science. What I did was put pictures, in the paper. I "read" from picture to picture. When I need to read dense technical papers my trick is to speed read down the middle of the page; reread at places that catch my attention. When our son grumbled that he did not like sounding out words, in third grade. I gave him permission to fail. We also bought him Magic Cards with very complex words, rules and images. He told us he memorized words. His teacher was surprised because his reading improved from 2nd grade to above 6th grade level by the end of third grade. The trick of just memorizing words is never mentioned.
I am a 53-year-old British dyslexic. I watched this and cried, some sad tears which brought back reached comments, (like when you did the spelling exercise, and the reading exercise). as recorded the colour overlays, that don't make it easier, but I do use them as It makes reading a little less tiring for me. but you're right i sue them and too many people oh that fix it, not it doesn't. but for the parents i just want to share Dyslexia is part of me which I am proud of and would not want it to be able to be 'removed'. I left school in 1986/7 in the UK at 16yrs ole i was unable to read or write, or but the days of the week or months of the year in order, at the point i believed i was stupid, I was unemployed and no future. no self-esteem, no confidence. However, I was very lucky I met my partner Ann at 17, she worked with me, and persisted over my negativity. she taught to me to read (I'm still a poor reader) to a point where i could get by. by the age 22 i was going to University and did a four-year Sociology/Social research degree. I then went to work in the NHS, i am now in a senior role in the NHS, and been a regional chair for the whole North east of England improvement network, and a co-moderating/Associate Lecturer at Newcastle University Medical School. So i just want to say to the parents, with dyslexic children some will get to the end of schooling years and possibly still struggle. but for me and i believe for many dyslexics we learn skills in school, but not the skills that are being taught, but skills that get us through the day. so if your a parent of a child please buld the confidence and maintain the confidence, for me that the foundation stone need to build the skill dyslecis need in life. I also know that I spell better with a keyboard than a pen, and my life would have been very different without computers. i often used drew picture lists for shopping before a could draw pict list.
This is pulling me right back to 4th grade. This is spot on on how I struggled growing up, and still struggling in a professional setting. Still feel exactly the same.
We haven’t started yet but the baseline evaluation for therapy was kind and gentle. My kiddos binder is all set up and ready to go, and we are so blessed and humbled to join this top notch program.
I have Dyslexia. I watched the video to see how accurate it was. The simulation is really clever. I found it to be exactly like my experiences being taught to read and write at school.
I am 67 years of age, my message to younger people is, we feel we have to excel, because we have the ability to adapt and work around these reading problems. I have made a good living, I am not rich or poor just OK, it's thanks to my intelligence that helped me. Unlike me do not feel ashamed of your situation and above all don't let it control your life be what you want to be.
I didn't know that I was dyslexic until I got older but struggled at school as it was not heard of back then, learning the clock and maths was difficult for me and even with maths these days I can work things out right away but sometimes have brain fog and it takes me ages, but also im a kinda empath of a different kinda and have loads of abilities, also I have worked out how quartz healing etc works etc
I wasn't diagnosed until I was 39 along with my son who was in second grade. I had noticed that he could generally manage one syllable words if he wasn't frustrated. His teacher was only teaching "whole word" reading, unfortunately he was very 'rule' orientated so wasn't open to my method of coping by reading by syllables. He finally accepted that dad did have valid ways of doing things and that teachers may not always be right. Spelling was another matter until he got a job as a layout editor with the local paper - I could pick out the pages that he did as, 1) there were no spelling errors, 2) words were used correctly, 3) articles that were cut to fit the allotted space flowed such that it was not noticeable. For myself words like form are a flashing neon sign when it should be from, but the opposite is also true. When I was in third grade I was sent to a tutor for a bogus reason, she picked that out very quickly so started with flash cards of multi syllable words. She noticed that once I got a word I would repeat that word if a card with a word that started with the same syllable was shown. Her solution was read, read and read to increase my vocabulary along with a quick question after each sentence that I read "did that make sense" (that is automatic now) if yes then continue but if no then go back and read by syllables (and yes, sometimes it is just a poorly written sentence). Sometimes my misreading is pretty funny 🤪.

It is a frustrating fight! And the legislation is so different state to state - with no one really providing accountability since they leave it to the districts to carry through.
