@@sjm.photos Many thanks 👍 Think i will buy the rx10iv,had the Nikon for a while,takes great photos close up(bird/wildlife phophotography)but birds in flight well it's not very good.
So now I’m totally confused… Everyone was saying HOLD OFF because the latest Sony update for the A1s was breaking WiFi and Bluetooth - if not BRICKING the camera - and IF not in Warranty - Sony was charging $750 to “repair” the camera w/o acknowledging the firmware issue… that 5/4/3 months ago and the latest (2 months) is an AI recording that only says “be careful” but NOT that anything has been fixed and IF it doesn’t work… it’s the “user’s fault ie a legal CYA for potential class action law suits. Uh, that’s absolutely - no - help and implies that the other people are posting with problems are liars… Do I need to find the fellow who bought a used A1 and get update BRICKED his $6K camera and he posted transcripts of Sony telling him that they won’t even look at it if he didn’t cough up $750 (a fourth of the cost of the camera!!!) is he lying??? Worse, implying that firmware upgrade is a “no brainer” is going to get other shooters in trouble. Why not point out that the 1.32 upgrade to 2.00 depends what version Mac iOS you running as earlier iOSes need an upgraded driver to load Sony’s install program… Or that you should completely reset your camera to factory settings because (as usual) Sony never tested the upgrade with options that have been set that may not work when you “blow away” the previous settings… which is standard practice to n other software upgrade scenarios. My 2018 MacBook Pro (out of support) was BRICKED by going from Ventura to Sonoma and Apple’s - initial -response was “buy a new machine” - buy another A1 ? - that’s insane! Fortunately, because I install software for a living, I had a Support Ticket BEFORE I tried it and a Tech said “no problem” (and I recorded the call) and Apple reviewed the incident and got me a new 2017 and admitted that you “can not upgrade to Sonoma because it’s trying to access hardware not on the 2017 machine! I’ll have to do the same here - but Sony being a Japanese company - is not obviously NOT as cautious as Apple with being named in a class action lawsuit.
A good message to get over, basically use your eyes! I find that after nearly 50 years of snapping, not to any great standard, I tend to look at everything as a potential shot even if I haven't got a camera on me.
I just bought the sony RX 10 IV last week and you have helped me so much setting it up quickly to get started... of course I will download the full manual from sony BUT thanks to you a have a general grasp of some of its functionality Again thank you so much... Greetings from Holland
Totally agree getting out for a walk is so good for freeing up the mind. Your butterfly was a Speckled Wood and you yourself looked well. Any reason why you used iso 320 throughout the video, as I know from previous videos you always like to try and use 100 for quality 👍
was waiting for someone to notice theres a couple at 640 and 800 but 320 was a nice sweet spot for the shutter speed and aperture needed at the time and light wasnt changing much so worked well
Hello from Switzerland. Thank you so much for sharing your ramble. I am originally from North Hampshire, and this reminded me of the the walks I would do as a teenager. Chinooks were the songbirds of my area. Oh... Nice photos by the way. That mushroom looked like a staddle stone in the final photo. Thanks again.
The two cameras are apples and oranges in so many ways.! I enjoy the feel of a sizable piece of equipment in my hands, and the feel of working with and around the RX-10IV is instinctive and a joy.
Glad you kept the camera after all your work and videos. The RX-10IV has a place and it's own niche, no matter what additional cameras one may own. Yes, you can use the A6700 in its own right, but when you're looking for the feel and things the RX-10IV can do, it is better to have and not need rather than need and not have it.!
Instead of feeling sad, I am celebrating my RX-10IV. No matter what happens, I am keeping mine. It was well worth the investment, and your videos over the years made it an easy and good decision to have made.
Love your videos. The older ones are still as relevant as the newer ones when it comes to this camera. I continue to learn how to maximize its features.!
Imagine if Sony fully updated RX10 with same (or even better!) lens, up-to-date electronics, and a global sensor. Sony could even add a little AI frame tracking for RU-vidrs. The do-everything RX10v would become all-new world class again.
outside straight line about 15 metres ive used it at but never did a range test as such just sat in garden to be closer to birds and controlled camera via app

That's pure insanity on Sony's part. It's clearly the best super-zoom bridge camera out there and I'd stick with it for life if I could. An update would be great but it's the only style camera I see myself using. I do not want to get into carrying heavy lenses nor do I want the expense of getting into DSLR or Micro 4/3rds. I love the RX10. As am amateur photographer, It's PERFECT for just about everything I need it for, especially as a travel camera. PLEASE, SONY ! Say it isn't so. Don't kill this camera. I'd buy an updated one in a New York minute. In the mean time, I may have to pick up a second M4 for a future back up.
Living on the ocean, I'm up for sunrise everyday and use my RX10 mk 4. I also have an RX1 full frame fixed 35mm lens which takes better images but I'm so accustomed to the zoom lens.
@@sjm.photos I do get the idiot award. Found it. Update achieved. Now onto the next problem - Play Memories now defunct - replacement hates me - looking for something else.
@@sjm.photos I'm thinking of replacing it with a Sony A7RV, just in case.I tested it, there was no problem in general.I will go to the Sony Experience Center on the weekend and ask them to test it there.
I also use Sony a6700 and my budget is very limited I want to choose a lens I am between 70-200 f2.8 / 200-600 which one do you think I should choose please suggest :(

why is it so hard for Sony to give this camera a 1/8000 mechanical shutter? That would make it perfect for what it is advertised as. My man, you won't do anything with a 25 milisecond E shutter for wildlife and sports. This is just a glorified videocam, an FX30 without inner fan.
its not hard. they are just keeping it reliable . every sony ive had has been 1/8000s remember its a cheap entrylevel apsc camera not a full frame high end body.
@@sjm.photos huh? the Sony A6000 series is NOT an entry level camera. Even less the A6700. And cheap? Well, it's as expensive as the amazing A7R3. Just because it's aps-c doesn't mean it's entry level. You have the Nikon D500 which is on the same league as the A77II and the Canon EOS 7D Mark 2, but the D500 is much more professional than the A77II and the A77II is more professional than the EOS 7D mark ii. Then you have full frame entry level cameras like the Sony A7I and the EOS 6D.
Bought and returned a 400mm 2.8 GM because of a loud clunk-clunk when tilted side to side…You could hear it when I carried it on a strap when walking while camera was off. It was loud. Got a replacement lens, it’s much quieter, you can still hear a slight clunk-clunk when you tilt it side to side, not just shaking it. But guessing this is normal? All clunks go away when camera is on, you can however hear a high-pitched subtle motor sound, guessing this maybe is the electromagnet?
I updated from 1.32 to 2.01. Before that I used the Imagin Edge app to transfer pictures. With 2.01 I used the Creators app. Since the update to 2.02 Bluetooth no longer works, WiFi does, but not with the app either. Bluetooth worked for about 8 weeks after the update to 2.02, then suddenly stopped working in mid-August. It seems to have frozen. The camera initialized, but that didn't do anything. I hope Sony reacts and there will be a new good update soon, including animal eye AF in video mode. The Creators app is important for my workflow and Bluetooth and WiFi have to work for that.😥 I hope it's just a bug. Lots of people with different models are suddenly having network problems/Bluetooth and WiFi...
Camera continues to amaze me! Not exactly small, but when you consider all the ‘weather resistant lenses” you aren’t packing… I found one in great shape used, but missing the eye cup. I can’t seem to find a way to replace so didn’t purchase.
I got a new canon RF85mm is stm delivered today. Soon as I took it out of the box I noticed a rattle. I got out a canon RF 24-105 mm and this did not rattle. Then I got out an RF 800mm which also did not rattle. This has me worried!
James, I have owned the rx10 iv for more than 6 years and love it. I have also owned the Canon r7 which is also very good. However, I sold the r7 not too long ago and still have and use the rx10 iv. If Sony updated the rx to an rx10 v I would certainly purchase one! Tell Sony they are missing a great opportunity to convince some phone photographers to carry the rx in addition to their phone for added benefits that it offers and not need to carry all the additional "stuff" of an interchangable lens camera. Please Sony, take your customers' opinions into account. The other way Sony would satisfy me would be to do a custom upgrade option that I would be willing to pay for.
nessun prodotto sostuituirà i fotografi col telefono. Dove se la mettono la rx10, nella tasca dei pantaloni? Personalmente, se non riuscirò a trovare un usato sotto gli 800 euro, acquisterò un telefono xiaomi 14 pro usato a 600 euro. ( visto le recensioni?) E tanti saluti a Sony.
Meine Sony A1 hat seit 13. August Bluetooth Probleme, Es ist Tot, vorher hat’s funktioniert. Mit 2.02 funktioniert die Verbindung zum Creator App nicht, WLAN funktioniert, aber lässt sich auch nicht verbinden. Kamera unbrauchbar gemacht.😢
Even though I have to use second hand, 8 year old Nikon gear it's great to see these serious lenses but can you please answer a question that has puzzled me for yonks! Why do the manufacturers of these great lenses, which let's face it are aimed at wildlife snapping, produce them in bright white? Guaranteed to scare off even the most tame of animals. I know people use Neoprene covers but I hate the feel of them. Cheers, Steve.
RX10IV is still the best walk around hike around camera ! I bought mine half and a year ago partly because of your channel when I was looking for an easy to carry short range/long range camera for a Safari I made last year in Tanzania, I do not regret it.
Wow, this looks awesome with my untrained eyes. I just purchased a second hand rx10 iv and am looking at a lot of videos to get ideas and really just to learn how to do the whole photography thing.
