The park is open year-round. It is owned by the City of Colorado Springs, so is unaffected by government shutdowns and so forth. You just drive up and walk around. There's a lot more to the park than this video, but it does give a general idea of the area at least.

It is great fun! The best part of the experience is that they are so remote that you really get a feel for how isolated those people were in the 1800s.

hmmm... I would blame it on the weather and global warming.... No snow or rain during the winter=dry summer. dry summer= possible fires. Combine that with the beetle kill pines and you will get a fire. By the way, if your entire town was burning, I bet you would be crying too.
