Patricia and Dave purchased a new 2021 Jeanneau 440, now they have to learn to sail, downsize their life and outfit the boat for bigger adventures. Sailing the Gulf Coast of Texas for starters while prepping to go much further. Videos of DYI Improvements and modification to Cavu and their True Kit Discovery 330.
I remember seeing a video about it. But some of these videos (about various boat manufacturers) get removed... And I'm not referring to that hull #1 at some boat show with various interior cosmetic issues that they had to rush to get ready. The vid I'm referring to was about glue-seams(?) of the hull itself. I'm however only a layman at this stuff so y'all have to do your own due diligence...
Niiiice tack sailing. Takes teamwork 👍🏻 Pro Tip: When towing a dinghy, tilt the motor up so it’s not causing drag. Should increase speed by at least 1/2 knot….usually 1. Also, set the dinghy on the front of the second stern wave so it’s on the down side. Reduces drag again. Same speed results. 😊
Under the starboard cabin. In the 3 cabin version of the 440 there is a water tank there but they omitted it on our two cabin so there was a big void. Great thing about the seawater pro is that it’s modular so you can fit it into what ever space you have
you know - Jeanneau should LISTEN to you and FIX everything you mention. Why? It's mainly small stuff -- I am always amazed that companies can go YEARS without identifying these kinds of things. The fifty pound limit on the real pulpit actually pisses me off. Also, the emergency tiller placement -- baffling for a serious boat maker to treat emergency equipment as an after thought. Very good video. I'd LOVE for Jeanneau to make a response video saying they hear you and will FIX...!!!!!!
i really enjoy your reviews. i like the way you have "gut feelings" about boats. i also don't like some of the higher end yachts like the oyster. you gave me confidence to feel that way....this seems like a GREAT boat for you two. I will look - do you have a vid on how it sails? I don't have the wallet for one of these. but maybe one day!!
The boat sails great, even in light wind she does good. Heeling is minimum for a monohull because of the full chine. Sails are all easily managed from the cockpit.
There is abrilliany Wincher battery driven Winch handle available now, not cheap, but much cheaper than electric winches. My first glimpse of them was on the SV Tonic Boatwives RU-vid Channel..I'm Disabled, so it is just what I need. Best Wishes. Bob in Wales. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤
@@SailingCAVU The nice thing with the Wincher electric Winch handle, is it turns every manual Winch into an electric Winch. I know you guys have done a great job on getting Cavu up to date and how you want it. Keep up the great work. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟❤️
Not sure how I got to your video BUT did Dave ever reappear? 😊 9:15 alright Dave is in the house er boat! Gave ya all a thumbs up I know maintaing teak sucks but wow it looks nice once finished!
Unlike the 20 something’s that quit their jobs bought a boat and left on the adventure. We are building our sailing experience and want to leave prepared. Our newest episodes will show us on a chartered 440 in the BVI. We have another trip to the Grenadines this summer. We plan on taking Cavu on a West coast of Florida adventure next spring.
Hey Camera guy . Show the boat and not her.. I get it … but you got to take a basic 101 in video shooting.. Use wide angle shots on what’s she talking about instead shooting mainly close ups when she talking.. She can’t be replaced But you can… Show the details on the boat …. I can afford the boat But can’t afford the upkeep on a lady
At the end of the video I do a walk thru without Patricia and just a voice over. The girl comes with 3 degrees and a 6 figure job so the expense ratio is lower than what you think.
Good lessons - Carry spares for spares and the right tools, and listen to what the boat is trying to tell you. I’d add get into Cruising mode as fast as possible (and that does seem difficult for Sailboat Racers for who pushing things to the limits of stress is normal, and then expensive stuff breaks , so depower early by reefing in plenty of time - a good early morning is the boat talking to you via weatherhelm. A good modern wide beam Sailboat with a good hull design no matter the conditions, should only need to heel at less than 15 degrees. Cross cut Dacron Sails can go all baggy pants very quickly, and that will increase the heeling angle, and reduce speed while increasing stresses - that’s why I like the much greater Sail Shape retention of Triradial Cruising Sails. Some builds can be really expensive though, depending on the cloth used, but you can expect a much longer Service Life in return. Just get them checked and valeted regularly.Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🌟🌟🌟⛵️❤️
Holding there can be iffy. The island is made from oyster shells and we have dragged anchoring too close. Too far outside and you will catch the wake off the ship channel.
Fun times! I was always curious about Senor Frogs seeing it from the deck of several cruise ships through the years. We always opted to enjoy the empty ship as all the tourists departed for the island. Lol
