AE Techron is a recognized world leader in the design and manufacture of precision, audio-frequency industrial power amplifiers and EMC product safety compliance test systems. Our flagship 7224 linear amplifier features a DC-300kHz bandwidth and has been recognized by Ford for use in EMC-CS-2009 testing. The EST (Electronic Smart Test) line of products provides computer-automated safety testing and reporting. Other products offer solutions for small-bore MRI/NMR, power grid simulation and testing, and a range of power conversion and amplifier uses for military and research.
Problem: Solid state amps burn out too easily, and without so much as a flash or pop. Crown: Here's your solution, an amp that works! D. Hafler (Hafler) and B. Carver (Phase Linear): Here's your solution - amps that catch fire under heavy load! There's more than one way to skin a cat!
J. Gordon Holt of Stereophile really liked this amp and reviewed it in 1970 saying "Summing up, then, we would venture to say that this is the best power amplifier that is currently available, regardless of cost. We will even go so far as to guess that it will not be possible to build a better one, although we have some times been proven wrong on some similarly rash statements in the past. One thing we are quite certain of, though, is that this amplifier has spoiled us."
Huge respect for a soft spoken smart man that helped the sound industry get the music out to audiences via his designs. I really like that that series was made right in Elkhart Indiana where there was factory support as well . Ae techron , located right in the same town, has the best support for those amps now and they still have that older true customer service that made crown a great name . I like being able to drive up and actually speak to the best service people in the business and deal with corporate red tape. Crown is gone , ae techron is still the real deal
Yeah, but you should use it with it's hiqnet software too, otherwise you're missing out on a lot of handy features, you also need at minimum a 20 Amp breaker.
I'd love to meet Mr. Stanley and just listen to him talk about these great designs. That's one hell of a rack of amps behind him! I can show the wife and explain that my collection is not that large.
Nice, I'd love to visit the museum someday. I currently still own and use almost daily, a D-75, 2 DC-300A series 2, a Comtech 800, and 2 Comtech 1610 amps. Just today I received an RTA-2 which is in good working order.
Back in the late 1980's '88-'89 ish I serviced the DO 2000 that tan the largest part of the Silver Springs park paging and background music system. It was definitely a different beast than the amps I was accustomed to servicing. Definitely an experience in circuitry design and after it was prepared an awesome listening experience. Crown is the only amp for me..."Crown when you are ready for real" says it all.
I worked for a super smart fella, in the '80's. It was a Hi-Fi repair shop and we were a Crown warranty station. My boss was friends with Gerald and they would chat about circuitry, etc. From the conversations that I heard that they had, you knew that Gerald was/is immensely smart. There was a piece of the circuit, where a transistor was in a really odd position in the circuit. I think one of their grounded bridge designs. There's a mirror amplifier circuit that swings the voltage on the Vcc/Rail capacitor(s). In that Vcc swinger amplifier, was the weird transistor. My boss asked Gerald, "This one stumps me. What does that do?". (Gerald) "Oh, that shorts out the base-Emitter capacitance shutting the transistor transistor off, faster.". He was very clever. I've worked on some of the Techron's Amps (spun out of Crown) and it has the similar M-600 Grounded Bridge, many, many outputs and the analog thermal computer. Yup, he is at the top of the heap. Thank you, Gerald, for all of your cool, innovative designs that harness huge while keeping SOA within bounds.
i'm still using a dc300A Labortory Power Amplifer today, had to do alot of work to it buts its still an amazing amp with great sound quality, i even used it to watch this video

I saved a CT210 from heading to the scrap heap a few years back.....and I honestly knew nothing about Crown or Stanley until this evening. I'm not an engineer and I don't understand half of what the man is trying to tell me - but I am in awe regardless - as though I understand completely. Now to see if my 210 works! (yeah I boxed it away and I've had a lot to do since then) Thank you for these videos!
I still have my Macrotech 800 and 1200. Used these for years with my bass guitar rigs. I have an offer to get a PSA2 for $100.00 tonight. Just don’t know if I want it?
Gerald Stanley is one of the most important electronics engineers in the audio field to ever walk this earth. I would love to hear more of Gerald talking about the classic Crown home line up such as the IC-150, OC-150,FM1 and others. There are still many people around the world who still have and cherish their Crown equipment and I am one of them. Thank you Gerald Stanley for the amazing designs that you have created.
It is always a pleasure to listen to Mr Gerald Stanley explanations. It is a privilege to listen the technical concept behind the Crown sets from the same person who have develop them. What a joy. Because of Mr Stanley I am a proud owner of a complete tri amplification Crown (but still missing the EQ2…) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SvozlyoARmc.html
It is people like Nikolai Tesla, Elon Musk or Gerald Stanley that change the world for a better place. And the DC300 was a giant leap forward in the solid-state amplification world. Thank you, Mr Stanley, for your incredible work over the years. Bless you. I hope to visit the museum one day soon. It goes without saying I could not live without my DC300s (and all my vintage Crown gear, for that matter). And thank you Harman Group to maintain the Crown legacy alive.
