I share short videos of finished junk journals along with instructional tutorials and creative tips to inspire and help those interested in making or possessing unique, hand crafted artisan books.
I especially love old papers and ephemera! And I love writing, books and all kinds of fibers, lace and ribbons. It’s natural for me to combine all my loves into making books and share them here with you. I created my first collage with a whole box of bandaids when I was just a little girl and I have been seeing the beauty in everyday things ever since. I adore mixed media art from grungy to shabby chic to classic and especially vintage styles. Collage, assemblage, printing, dyeing and especially altered books are just a joy to me. I find deep satisfaction in recycling all kinds of common materials in something as wonderful as a re-made book.
Weedy barnyards, farmhouse attics and urban thrift shops are my favorite places, particularly when I can carry home a treasure of paper and lace.
I love this journal! Absolutely beautiful~the colors are amazing. Kathleen, where do you get the paper that you put ribbon in the holes on the side. For the life of me I cannot think of where to get that paper. I don't think it's some type of accounting paper....but then....maybe it is. I love that you put ribbon through the holes. @@kellybrush4803 Kelly, if you are in the US, I buy bead strands from Hobby Lobby and JoAnns. Sometimes I make an order from FireMountain Gems. I also look for broken jewelry in the thrift stores or cheap bracelets.
@@sandrinefresne6575 Not exactly Sandrine, but I do know that a lot of people struggle with it. I can tell you that some of my tag templates would work for a cover, adjusting for a shorter rectangle - something like the “power of three” or “three plus two” or “count to five.” You might give one of those a try on a simple rectangle panel and see how you like it. Well Kathleen, i think you have the most interesting and fun job i can ever imagine. You must be so happy to start a journal and the sense of pride you must have when you complete it. This is the third time I have attempted to leave a comment because of my silly fingers on this keyboard that I use for watching RU-vid on our TV. Everytime I finish the comment I want to put !! but I get too excited and miss that key and it presses the one that closes the whole window and then my comment is gone. At least I have finally worked it out now and let's see if this comment makes it haha 1. Yes they look like little white baby spiders we have here! That lace is great! 2. The bug page is so interesting and i love that you include things like this and for a journaller I feel the possibilities are endless - so many possible prompts - do you like bugs? do you know someone who likes bugs? Why is a ladybug considered more beautiful than other bugs to maybe most people? What is beauty to you? etc etc etc And you could just write some journalling around the bugs here - that would look creative and maybe look like little bugs travelling all over the page :) 3. Of all the journal makers on RU-vid you are my absolute favorite. I cheer whenever you show a beautiful new journal with such creative ideas inside. I try to hold some of your ideas in my senior mind to use but I’ve decided I could never do what you do and am just entertained by your creations. Someday I’m going to purchase one 😊

I will tell you that whenever I see a really great idea from someone’s video, I pause it and make what I call a “template. I just use plain paper or cardstock and re-create the idea and add whatever variation I think of myself and then write the maker’s name on it. Then I put it in my pocket pouch, which is where I store all my ideas for decorating a journal. I did a video about that some time ago, if you are interested…here is the link. Hi, Lovely! You are the very best! Everyone else pales in your midst. Could you please tell me where you source your vintage ephemera from? If it's a secret I perfectly understand. I found most vintage ephemera are only available to those living in the United States. Your friend is so accomplished. On other matters, I have completed the journal I was working on, but not done the video of it yet. May be in a week I will do it. I have also started on another smaller one 😊. Lots of love - Sharmini
@@sharminikamalikajayawarden7541 Aw thanks so much Sharmini! You are so sweet! I usually buy ephemera from the thrift stores and antique stores, but it’s very hit and miss. When I first started collecting, it really seemed like there was so little to choose from - I remember that frustration. I also buy from sellers on Etsy, but yes, they do prefer to send to the US and that must be doubly frustrating. I also now try to go to estate sales - people who have died and their children are selling the stuff off. Most people who attend are not interested in paper stuff. I also try to go to the source and ask my friends who are cleaning out their closets and drawers or cleaning out the house of their parents. I find that when I let many people know what I do and what kinds of papers that I would like, they are often willing to help me find old papers. I now have a little army of friends looking out for me, haha. Congrats on finishing your project and starting another!! WELL DONE!
