yasmina a étalé tout son racisme envers les Kabyles. Normal de la part de quelqu’un qui a été nourri par l'armée algérienne pendant des décennies. Les Kabyles sont l'ennemi n° 1 de la dictature algérienne.

Before we dismantle Capitalism and economic growth, lets try having all the obscenely wealthy give their homes, money and abundance of things to the rest of the world... they'll own nothing and like it -- right?

The problem is not economic. It's government policy, specifically spending on things government has no business spending money on and now the bills are due. All the rest of the noise is a smoke screen: Capitalism is bad, America is so divided, Guns are the problem, and so on. So why is government the problem? Because they need more money to service our ever growing debt (standing well over 34T). Because of that they need more inflation and higher taxes than ever to cover the interest on existing debt. More tax grabs are coming and much more inflation. This cycle will continue until the government is held responsible for their reckless behavior. For most of the past 75 years government spending as a % of GDP has ranged between 40% and 60%. Then Obama showed up and spending went to 95-100+% during his tenure and since he left it's never been below 100% and is now in the 120-130% range. No administration (not even our congress people) have the political will to correct this behavior because it means stopping to pay for bailouts, entitlement programs, our voluminous and never ending proxy wars (sometimes even outright wars), our police state (HHS and TFA)...and the list goes on and on. Government needs to do what they were always instituted for and really not much more. That is education, infrastructure, border security, and protection from foreign invasions. Instead government has embedded itself into every single industry and knows how to do nothing but grow itself and grow its spending. If left unchecked, they will ruin this country. None of these issues has anything to do with capitalism, it's our elected (and more so our unelected) government officials acting like our money is theirs to do what they want with it.

Government spending as a percentage of GDP stands around 34% now and was not high during the Obama years. The Bush and Trump tax cuts drove up the deficit, as did excessive military spending and a misguided 22-year "war on terror."

You're half correct, half incorrect. Read The Deficit Myth to learn how much good our elected officials could do, if we did a better job of electing the right people.

The degrowth movement, with its dreams of shrinking economies to save the planet, often sounds like it was brainstormed in a university coffee shop somewhere between a Marxism 101 class and an artisanal bread-making workshop. It's as if someone said, "Hey, remember communism? Let's give it a green makeover!" Suddenly, reducing consumption isn't just about cutting back on plastic straws; it's about throwing the whole capitalist baby out with the bathwater. Instead of driving less, we're supposed to live like it's 1699, minus the fun parts like discovering electricity or inventing the steam engine. Sure, the planet might be cooler, but if the price of saving the earth is giving up my Netflix subscription and living in a yurt, I might need a bit more convincing that this isn't just communism wearing a recycled, biodegradable disguise.

When you've got a global issue, it is utter BS to claim that individual changes are sufficient. C'est are necessary but it is the global policy framework that serves as a framework for a shift in individual behaviour. As long as there are no treaties that compel countries all over the world to remain within a certain limit of GHG emissions, there can be no efficient energetic transition/reduction since everyone will wait on everyone else. That is why we see year after year, COP after COP, the amount of energy use that keeps increasing with the emerging countries basically burning the fossil fuel that the west with its renewable energy does not need to burn anymore. We need to solve the issue of the free rider. Without mutual cooperation towards a shared energetical descent at an international level, there is no hope and there is no solution. We need the doughnut politically implemented basically. What the environmental crisis comes to assess in human societies is whether we'll burn up together as rivals or work together to keep it cool enough for us to farm and live for a little while longer.

We are always baffled to see these types of talks where the issue of the human population growth (i.e. consumers wanting a Western lifestyle) as the main driver of the growth in energy and resource consumption is completely ignored!

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Human population growth is not the same as the growth in consumers wanting Western lifestyles. And, of course, birth rates are declining all over the World.
@coolioso808
@coolioso808 4 месяца назад
Because that's not the issues, human population growth. It's actually on the decline in many countries, especially "Western nations." Hardly anybody can afford to have 5 to 10 kids like they might have in the past, with more rural based families. Most are living in cities now and the issues isn't how many people - because we can feed 10 billion based on the amount of food we produce - but capitalism is extremely inefficient at distributing the goods we produce in an equitable way. That's the problem. Capitalism is the problem. The solutions are many, but the end of capitalism is the focus. Timothee is very correct in saying we should unite forces. So many groups and organizations have good ideas, none alone are perfect, but if they are ultimately pointing in the right direction towards a sustainable, just and healthy future for ALL humans, within planetary boundaries, then we can work together.
