This is a very amusing scene, I think there's only one opera, (Don Giovanni?) where the heroine, in this case, Donna Elvira actually makes it to the convent and takes the veil LOL (well she said she would, whether she really did or not is up for speculation).

A really wonderful moment in LES TROYENS (part 2) followed shortly by perhaps the most memorable love duet, IMO, (sorry Mr, Wagner) in all of opera. Vickers & Ludwig sang it together but I have yet to hear it here or elsewhere. Iopas song is beautifully if a bit indulgently rendered here.
Astonishing how good he sounds even in his 50s! The voice has matured and acquired a robustness that is unique to his particular timbre. I wonder what it feels like to be in control of such an extraordinary physiological instrument. He’s certainly got a couple more decades of performance left!
