Very good commentary! And to just jump in, I think Underworld needed the CGI treatment worse than any story and I didn’t realize they didn’t have the original “green screen” footage to re-do the cave scenes. I wonder if the story would be better if the effects weren’t so awful and distracting? I also have always half-hoped (well, really hope but don’t think there’s much of a chance) is that they’ll map over the interior of the TARDIS in Invasion of Time and mask as much if the old hospital interior that doubled as the TARDIS interior. I know the TARDIS can change its internal, appearance as well as external, but it’s so obvious it’s just some old building with crumbling bricks. The art gallery and pool sections are okay, but the other sections need a Castrovalva roundel make over. I always hope that some episode where they are deep in the TARDIS they’ll have a section of brickwork and have the Doctor say something like “oh yes, I forgot, I was very fond of Victorian brickwork for some reason. I re-did the whole interior of the TARDIS with it for a time, this must be a Section that got missed in the makeover. And then Explain about the TARDIS ability to change its architectural configuration, etc. LOL, it’s almost funny how so,e,dans like myself want so badly for a line of dialogue to make an in-universe explanation for the low-budget real world filming locations, lol.

Never read the discontinuity guide and assumed that Mordee was the name of the explorer who led the expedition not the name of the planet. I saw the episode on its original broadcast and actually back then was not concerned with details like that. The Doctor went where he went and did what he did and you just went along for the ride (like the companion). i am not a fan of 'canon' or continuity dis or otherwise because it restricts the viewers imagination.

This was actually my first Dalek story. Was watching Dr Who since I was 3 or 4, between 1982 and 1983, on WGPR channel 62 (which was also the first black owned TV station here in the US) and they'd show Dr Who, they were showing Tom's final season and Peter's first. And after we left Detroit and moved to a more rural setting, PBS channel 56 (Detroit's public television station) was airing Dr. Who, on and off during 1985. They started airing regularly in September 1987. And did so till late 1992. Anyhow, 56 NEVER aired Dalek stories, not until about late 1988 or early 1989. First time seeing Daleks was on CBC channel 9, a Canadian channel we were able to get, and one late night in the summer of 1989, Dr. Who and the Daleks was shown. Shortly after that, 56 starting showing Dalek stories. Always liked these Daleks most, (which I refer to as AARU Daleks) with the 1960's Daleks coming after. I like both films, and feel this is one of those times a remake does better than the original in terms of Dalek Invasion of Earth. Though I think it SHOULD have been called "Daleks: Invasion of Earth 2000", because the world we see in this film would make A LOT more sense if these was 2000 or so, since all the buildings and cars and fashions all look mid 20th century. Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future (which is another good series, think Terminator meets Super Sentai) did a better job showing a post atomic horror earth in the 22nd century. Anyhow, this film was my first exposure to Daleks.

@@TheCastellan It sounds like some really awesome cherished memories. I love hearing about people's first exposure to these films. 😊 I totally agree with you; the first Dalek film I feel improves the original. The new series has suffered IMO by always having a modern day female companion and often her boyfriend. I also feel we should have had at least a few episodes of The Doctor and River traveling together as a proper companion and not just a guest star, but of course I love Alex Kingston and feel she should have met 13, as well as 13/Missy having a cat fight and River assisting. Anyway, I think they really need to branch out and try something new. Would LOVE an Emma Peel type companion complete with martial arts skills, perhaps starting out as a badas$ who has little patience for the Doctor’s antics and comes from a harsh time/place where people do not trust one another. After awhile the Doctor risks his life to save her and she returns the favor, and begins to see the Universe thru his eyes of compassion and helping others rather than being out for yourself. I think she’d be extremely popular and would have a fantastic arc, and we get to see the contrast of the Doctor and his insistence on helping the underdog and whenever she finally leaves, she ‘s a truly good person and committed to helping others, perhaps defending some off world village/society and even falling in love, not because of usual the cheesy formula, but because she is actually able to love someone now and trust that they care for her in return. Plus love seeing tough companions like Leela and Ace. :-)

Adam's emotional maltreatment by the Ninth Doctor, with the mocking line about seeing him in a fight and "throw your A-levels at them", was the ethical end of DW, long before Timeless Child ever happened. It was a real life crime against the safety of children, as it encouraged and participated in bullying the vulnerable. RTD was deliberately fishing to make the revived show cool by doing that to exactly the character type associated with being old DW's audience. As too he was by making the Ninth Doctor all leathery and street-poser macho unlike any Classic Doctor. Eccleston's willingness to do it makes him by far the worst Doctor, ethically as well as in character, and deserving to get retconned out of being the Doctor at all and instead made into a villain Time Lord stealing one of the Doctor's lives.
