Imagine how horrified John would have felt if his request was ignored for the black hood. Rest easy Michael, you humble big guy, you gave a magnificent performance in this masterpiece.
Despite what happened between him & John, I always believed Percy still remembers what he did to him during the incident when he was assulted through the bars by Worton.
If I was Paul knowing all he knew, I would have refused to give the order. There would be no way I could have given that order. You could put a gun to my head and I would still refuse to give the order. I couldn't.
I find it a tragic irony that the only ones who don’t hate John Coffey are the ones who have to pull the lever. They know he’s innocent and can’t do anything about it. RIP Michael Clarke Duncan 🙏🏻
I see "being afraid of the dark" as a dual meaning. Literally we see John Coffey being afraid of the dark, and his powers are associated with light, but he's afraid of "darkness" of humanity too, it's why he decided not to allow Paul to let him to escape. As John Coffey said himself "mostly I'm tired of people being being ugly to each other".
Damn so well deserved I love these scene. He got what he deserved hell both of them did. Sad that the big guy still dies but it was more mercy then anything always makes me cry
