Steven Bradley, MD is an Anesthesiologist, Medical Ethicist. Although practicing for only two years, his professional career is broad and his pathway to medicine was non-conventional to say the least. This RU-vid channel will provide insight into the amazing field of Anesthesiology. It will provide guidance and a sounding board for those interested in the intricacies of medical ethics. This is a place for mentorship and representation that will hopefully lead to increased diversity in healthcare. Last, for those interested in military medicine, this will be a forum to have those questions answered.

I would love to see a video or be directed to one where anesthesia what type of effect does it have on people with long-haul Covid symptoms dealing with Short term memory issues and headaches and fatigue 4 years post COVID. How can anesthesia effect the previous issues and our brain. I have dental surgery planned I worry about this. I will breathe on my own and just be put under w IV meds it sounds like. I am 53 YO female. I’m concerned as I do have long-haul symptoms from Covid. They have been enough already to deal with it. I’m still actively trying to work and take care of grandbabies. I only have ever had mild shortness of air my oxygen level has been good. And I had the original variant in 2020 of Covid 19.
The Navy is gathering everyones medical data for DARPA and with the passage of the 2001 Authorization for Military Use of Force Act after The September 11th attacks and Emergency Department of Defense Indefinite Detention Act (Obama) with the Navy, who also has a hospital in Guantanamo Bay. The Navy in places like Middletown, RI is and Newport, RI are gathering children and others data as part of this from youth organizations (like the United Way and YMCA) as are linked to Mayor Adams and 9/11. The courts are part of this and their desire to create military tribunals like with the case of the Chicago 8. This is why Mayor Adams and Elaine Cho with GW bush are involved with vaccinations and federal youth organizations. Dentists are part of this and hospitals. They are trying to create a state of emergency to enable/enact all of this.
I have COPD and asthma from long term smoking. I have to have adrenal surgery, no choice,. Can i safely receive anesthesia? Any precautions that should be taken before and after surgery?
I have to be at the hospital at 7am and I’ve been told not to eat or drink after midnight. As I have an extremely slow metabolism I’m going to stop eating long before this time.
so, I have severe iron deficiency and low vita D. I'm having a laparoscopy on Sunday for acute appendicitis. Will I be okay ? I have severe anxiety depression and extreme fatigue sometimes
Just like peanut butter or any allergen it can be an array of different things that can cause your reaction to any food can be smell can be what was used t meo cook tha fish etc it needs to be narrowed down only b cause it may knot b the fish itself especially eating full course meals study test needs to be performed or notice whole meal itself to better understand the allergic reaction
A friend of my son had his Master's in music and went in as enlisted into the Navy Band. If you come in with a college degree, you can come in as an E-4. You can come in as an E-3 with an Eagle Scout award. If you get someone to join with you, you can come in as an E-2. All of these can depend on the needs of the service. The Warrant Officer program is a totally different system. Those who think you are not doing well financially forget your field is one of the highest medical malpractice costs of any medical profession. You do not have to pay staff. You do not have to divide your pay with hospitals or other practitioners.
You are very informative! I am interested in pursuing medical school! You have a great book shelf. I like your action figures! Essentialism seems like a great book to read! I was also looking into doctor's beyond borders!
How would you know what you had a reaction to!! Nobody has come to me and said anything to a reaction I had! Also, there is no list of drugs input into my body! Good luck!!!
@steven Bradley, Good Morning Dr. Bradley, is it preferred to use a mask for adult Neurosurgery head cases like the Shunt Revisions, I have a preference not to have a mask JUST WHILE I AM AWAKE,I hate the smell even flavoured Anesthesia bothers me
Sorry, I can't say too much since I cannot provide medical advice. However, if patients cannot tolerate a mask, sometimes I'll provide some sedation so they don't remember as much.
t's awesome to see a doctor talking about the importance of having more Black doctors. I didn't know there were so many different levels of care in hospitals.
So getting all your school paid for and serving for a set amount of time isn’t worth it? Leaving the military with your degree and having next to no debt isn’t worth it? How am I supposed too afford Med School in the civilian world?
My son is about to have surgery in two days to have his tonsils and adenoids removed. He is 3. He started having diarrhea 2 days ago. Is this going to affect anything? I appreciate your help!!
There are far fewer black doctors than there are white doctors. But there are far more black doctors than there are white looters. This gentleman is rare.
I had a general anaesthetic yesterday, when I was in the recovery room I remeber my body jolting as I was coming back around. It felt like when you are about to drift into a deep sleep and then your body jerks so you wake up. It kept doing this for what felt like a long time. I asked the nurse whilst I was semi conscious why my body was doing this and she replied "I don't know" I was also freezing and shivering with my teeth chattering, they had to get a blanket which blew hot air inside it to warm me up. Can you offer any information into why this may have happened? This is my 4th general anaesthetic and the other 3 I didn't have any issues like this when I was brought into recovery
I had an abscess from compacted wisdom teeth. It ruptured n I went septic. They did emergency surgery n I woke up three days later in ICU. I remember the nurse trying to wake me. She was very frustrated because nobody had mentioned I had sleep apnea. I'm going to have to have my knee reconstructed. I had it done once before in 2007. What precautions do they make for sleep apnea patients?
So I recently was selected for LDO. My path towards commissioning wast not easy to say the least. I originally enlisted and left active duty after my first enlistment contract. I joined the reserves and went to college and grad school via the Post 9/11 bill. I came back in the reserves after a break in service and due to my civilian experience, I came back in as an E6. Within three years affiliating, I promotedI promoted to Chief Petty Officer (E7) and then as a Limited Duty Officer in the same fiscal year, which is extremely rare. The designator in which I will commission was the only Officer designator community that interest me. I had no interest in the unrestricted line world.
Dr. Bradley so what happens if the patient has high blood pressure. And diabetes. Never been under any anesthesia, had 2 wrist surgeries wide awak for both, muscle biopsy fully awake and watched them cut open my leg and mucle. No OR room just standard room with two specialist. No pain afterwards either. Not even a colonoscopy yet. But i know its coming.
We can still safely provide care, however, poorly controlled health issues can increase the risk of a variety of complications. If medical conditions are very poorly controlled, sometimes surgery may be delayed or canceled.
Is it ethical for a Resident to place a DNR order on a patient after she botched a brain surgery on a patient who began hemorrhaging in the brain from an overdose of Heparin given by another employee at the same hospital? The patient was in a coma when the Resident arrived, and was unable to give consent to a DNR order,
Something else to mention to anesthesiologist is….cosmetic dentistry. There has to be a way of delineating which dead-asleep patient has dentistry that can be damaged. Had I known, I could have worn night guard which is clear plastic mold that would have protected the teeth. Or….mark with tape--do not pull apparatus out of this patients mouth. Ten thousand dollars worth of mistake, to say nothing of anguish and work hours wasted. Colored tape…. anesthesiologist says ….whats this? Oh yeah, right, gentle as we go.
