Only decent video I've seen of machine being used! Does it come with 14g basket and would you recommend upgrading to 18gram VST one? I understand you sold this long ago but the Musica is most likely same basket

You're right about this! My wife and I really take our time whenever making espresso-based coffee at home. We spent months looking for the perfect blend of Arabica coffee to suit our taste and always buy freshly roasted coffee beans. We weigh the coffee we grind, distribute it carefully, use exactly 30 pounds of force when tamping, weigh the brewed coffee to ensure it's around 1oz, and froth the milk to perfection. We also add various syrups when we're in the mood for a different flavor. You will never get this type of attention at a local coffee shop!

hey mate can i ask - if i were to buy one of these machines and make the upgrades myself how much would it cost me? did you install a pressure regulating valve? how difficult was it to install that / the timer? p.s. hope it sold thats a nice deal

This was a few years back so it is hard for me to remember precisely. I remember using this site and other youtube videos to do the PRV. it was pretty easy i think. The thing is because the pressure stat and pressure valve are connected. It uses temp to increase the pressure so it is hard to find the sweet spot. It is very easy to perfect if you attach a cheap pressure gauge to the portafilter. I have same toy but it’s disappointing it doesn’t have an OPV and a pressure gauge at this price. maybe a pid would be great as well. I found that many ppls changed with Breville dual boiler ( opv, p gauge, pid etc ).

Yeah on the P64 I noticed that as well, it's basically a relatively small circular adjustment on one end it's coarse enough for a french press without having to do multiple rotations and have it get confusing (like a Eureka) so you want to make small adjustments to dial in, I don't think it's much of a problem though. Once you use a new grinder more you kinda get used to how much of a turn really adjusts it.

i recently cleaned it and it has been a lot better. I do wish it was a touch more control with dialing it in but it is certainly an amazing grinder that I am proud to own!! Happy you have one too!

Got one recently and the funnel that came with it was magnetic! I got the silver one, but the funnel is black still so shouldn't matter. I like their needle tool, but it's a little unnecessarily heavy. It seems to work better than my thinner 6 needle cork one (0.3mm vs I think theirs being 0.4mm).

@@zberzzz yeah i might have to revise that now, I actually did the 3D printed one with many thin needles (9 I think!) All nice and evenly spaced out, and I think I prefer that one now it's just so quick.

@@zberzzz ECM Synchronika dual boiler, it's been pretty great. I also have a La Pavoni Europiccola I should play with more. Totally different experience vs the Synchronika but it makes some really nice drinks.

It's such a beautiful machine. I hope someday I can pair my Specialita with something close to that. I have the Infuser, but it's annoying to dial in sometimes. However, it makes pretty tasty drinks. If it breaks down, I want to get an Italian machine next.

@@NickAlbano253 It is a beautiful machine but probably not the best value. I got an insane deal on it but would not psend much more than I paid TBH. With that being said, I have never had single issue or shot where it was acting funny. It is an absolute beast. yeah the infuser is tough, it's tough to imagine a machine without a PID. you should look into a bambino plus!

The Infuser actually has a PID now, but it’s not like a prosumer machine PID. What is annoying is how slow it is to make a latte and how weak the steaming pressure is but other than that, I can get pretty much better coffee than what I used to get at some shops. What are your thoughts on the Silvano machines?

That is so epic!! I am really happy to hear that!! You have lots to explore on that machine. I make coffee for people everyday and I have never charged which is kinda funny given how much it would be worth at a cafe. I have a bambino plus in the office and I make a lot of coffees for everyone!

Mostly I just look for the used deals. I only bought my lagoon new otherwise all gear has been used. I do have features I couldn’t live without. Oscar 2 is a great machine. Do you have the new oscar 2? With the screen?

@@zberzzz Your setup is incredible! I thoroughly enjoyed your videos. We have an older Rocket Giotto and a newer Nuova Simonelli Oscar II that we got during the pandemic. For grinders, we have a Macap M7 and Nuova Simonelli MDX. We obviously aren't into espresso as much as you but it is one of our hobbies. Before watching your videos, I was looking at getting a Linea Mini but now I want the GS3. I thought the GS3 was 220V but it is only 110V so it could work. Your thoughts? The Linea Mini was already more than I wanted to spend but none of this espresso equipment makes any financial sense tbh.

Hey there, I have a musica. I use the expobar at work and get silky milk but with my machine which I presume is similar to oscar 2, i get the milk a bit bubbly and not silky. Have you experienced a difference too?

i dont have this machine anymore tbh. you definitely have to adjust your form for every machine. if it is bubbly maybe you have to make sure you have a proper swirl/vortex going.

Lots of channeling on that shot. I can’t imagine it tasted very good. I highly recommend an OCD style tool to level your puck before ramping. I wonder if you have ground too fine? It looks like a slow shot and it’s possible the high pressure fractured the puck.

Yeah I use an OCD tool. Like I said in the video it was my 3rd shot on a brand new grinder. Still dialing in the coffee at that point. Was kinda about my impression with the grinder up until that point. I did not taste bad at all but could have been better.

Yeah pretty close to the 0 point I feel for lighter roasts. I wish it was a little more wiggle room/ room to play with but I’ve never had an issue with not being able to grind fine enough. The sette was amazing for having a ton of control with the macro and micro adjustment.

hi sir🙋🏻‍♂️, i got 2 questions, regarding the opv, is the espresso quality is the same as breville bes870? because, i think both have 15 pressure right? if the pressure is too high, i grind coarser, it solved the problem right?

i can't say about quality. i think you can get the same quality but lower pressure is easier to work with and more repeatable. I would think if the pressure is too high grinding finer would solve the problem. Im not sure though, whatever you think is working best for you!

Glad to hear you are tasting more distinct flavour notes thanks to your P64. As others mentioned, your shot looked pretty channeled and messy. I noticed you are not vigorously de-clumping with the Weiss distribution tool. I would recommend leaving the funnel on the portafilter and getting deep nside the grounds and stirring, right to the bottom of the basket.

Did you find you had to be pretty close to the zero setting on the grinder? I’ve got the same setup (except mine is an MP), and I’m almost at zero on the grinder in order to get a 1:2 extraction at around 25-30 seconds

Yeah exact same. A little annoyed there isn’t more range but it should always work. When very close to 0 it chokes the machine even with very light roasts.

@@zberzzz I tried doing a decaf black cat blend for a friend and WHOA, I can’t choke the machine even at the smallest setting before the burrs click. I think I got something like 19g in, 38g out in 24 seconds. But then it made me wonder if it has something to do with my puck prep? I got the HU burr set too.

Mine is at 0 or below it, but 0 doesn't necessarily mean the touch point where burrs start to touch, not sure if that's a new thing they do but they marked the 0 / touch point on my grinder so I'm about 15 away from that. And I can definitely choke the espresso machine, I've pulled some 1+ minute shots so far :P I have the Unimodal 'multipurpose' burrs in mine.

The pump doesn’t actually pump water out till 6 seconds so it’s not as long as it looks. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Couple random questions and then a few relevant questions.... Are you Canadian and or from BC? Was looking at getting this grinder... did you order direct from Option O? or from their affiliate here with Cafune? If you ordered directly from Option O - how much was the taxes and duties? Thanks!

I currently live in BC but I'm from Ontario (Toronto). I ordered directly from Option O back in February. It takes a while for it to come. I only saw the Cafune after purchase. Shipping was like 50. I splurged at the fast shipping. I may have paid an additional amount in duties, at most 40-60 bucks. I am pretty sured they lied on the invoice to say it was only worth $200 to avoid taxes. I am pretty sure the total amount was slightly less than it would be on Cafune, only by a few hundred. I was a little dsipointed that it ended up being as much as it was. I dont know why they show the price on their website in USD when they dont ship to USA. that doesn't make sense to me. Happy to answer all questions. Are you from BC as well?

I'm in Burnaby... lol... did you go with the unimodal? so if they put the correct value of the grinder, I am probably going to get hit with like a $400 - $600 customs and duties bill... shipping right now says $140 usd... no option for cheaper... air charge only and delivery is in mid Aug.... right now the shopping cart says about $1800 usd... so it might come out to 2600-2700 CAD when all is said and done... ugh was going to buy like a $1000 dollar grinder... but figured I would just jump into what I really want instead of upgrading later.... (like a Ceado or Compak) Are you happy with it so far? and what did you have before?

@@orangachang i got the HU burrs. I absolutely love the Option o. It is a dream to use. As I said in my video, my only complaint would be that I wish it had more control around the espresso range. It hasn't been, and likely won't be a problem. I just think the Sette nailed that element of their grinder. I just checked my Visa and mine came out to $2200 CAD. I dont know if it is worth it for $2700. It is an amazing grinder. It is built so well and feels insanely premium. It just feels great and is an amazing experience to use. I feel like the Compak or Ceado would be good options here though. i was deciding between those when I made my decisions. For the extra $1000 i dont know how much extra performance you are getting with the Option o, i would say likely you would only get a slightly better experience with the Option O rather than better performance. The Ceado looks great for 0 retention and has a similar burr set. I dont really know how much variable motor speed will add to a better cup. In my coffee career as a home barista, Ive had: Capresso , Barazta Encore, Ascaso I-1, Sette 270, Mazzer Major, AND FINALLY THE OPTION O. What are you upgrading from?

@@zberzzz I am upgrading from nothing.... lol Recently just purchased a Lelit Bianca (considered the Linea Mini... too poor for that - there was a used one on marketplace for $4500) So that's $2,200 all in? or plus $200 for the customs and duties for $2400? I think Cafune will come out close to that price since they don't charge PST Considered the sette, i just don't want to buy something and then want to upgrade a week later... ha

@@orangachang I had the sette for 3 years and loved it. I think it is amazing for the price. If you can find a used one, it can be exceptional value. I don’t think you would find the need to upgrade right away with it. The biggest challenge will be getting the hang of the LB. my brother has one and there is a learning curve. It’s hard to know how to change the recipe for the better. I’ve been loving the GS3 but the LMLM is just so pretty!

Keep in mind most owners say the burrs need to be properly seasoned before they really shine. Typically hear around 5lb of beans before you'll see a difference!
