rangers are a completely new club. but if they get to keep EVERYTHING, then the current wimbledon should get to keep EVERYTHING. I'm a luton fan but thankfully haven't lived there for over 30 years so not really got any hatred towards mk dons. just some context for yas
Great list I consider knowledge pretty good but some surprised me - would love to see Jamie Vardy or James Milner still playing at 45 years old in the non league
I think FC Amsterdam would be a better team for Netherlands. Even though only existed in 10 years, but they were the most potential football team at the beginning. With the merge of 2 tradition Dutch teams Blauw Wit and DWS, they made it to the UEFA cup in their second season and were a rival to AJAX Amsterdam at some point.
If Gillingham were to ever go up to the Premier League, I'm guessing they'd have to replace the "Brian Moore Stand". I feel like the EPL wouldn't allow a temporary stand to exist in its league, especially one that is (to my knowledge), not safe enough to usually be filled up.
Don’t think Rangers a massive surprise as their fan base is miles bigger than the rest of these clubs put together . Nelson beating Real Madrid is a cracker . When Bradford P A were in Division 2 they beat Manchester United 6-1 !
Cambridge Rules were codified in 1856 and had changed significantly by 1863, so much so that they may as well have been a different sport. Association Rules were based on Cambridge Rules, but varied significantly on the use of hands. Cambridge Rules continued to evolve until 1867 and were largely abandoned outside of the University in 1873
When Pompey went into administration the last time,we were hours away from being a non-league club. A group of fans had the name AFC Portsmouth and a new badge ready for that eventuality. It was scary! The Pompey Supporters Trust got hold of ownership then the Eisners bought the club. We became League Two champions and then League One champions.
I know that this is an only English team's list, but Achilles '29 from the Netherlands I think has to take the cake when it comes to back-to-back relegations. In the 16/17 season, they were in the 2nd tier of Dutch football. In this season, they finished rock bottom on 19 points (3 points were deducted due to not meeting financial requirements. Usually in the Eerste Divisie, teams don't get relegated, but the bottom place team gets asked if they'd like to give up their professional status or not. The last time a team got relegated was in the 16/17 season, and can you guess which team this was? It was Achilles '29. They decided to give up their professional status and with that started their downfall and financial struggles. The following 17/18 Tweede Divisie (3rd division) season had Achilles '29 get relegated again, finishing rock bottom with only 12 points in 34 games and conceding 100 goals and only scoring 41. The 18/19 Derde Divisie (4th division) season had Achilles '29 get relegated again, also finishing rock bottom, with slightly higher points than the previous season with 16 points, but conceded 107 goals and only scored 44. Achilles '29 weren't relegated in the 19/20 nor 20/21 Hoofdklasse (as you can guess, the 5th division) because of COVID lockdowns, but both seasons would've gotten them relegated with the 19/20 season stopped after 20 games, but they only had 1 SINGULAR POINT in those 20 games and the 20/21 season ending after just 5 games with no points. When the 21/22 season came rolling around, surprise surprise they got relegated with 17 points, although they were second to last place above VV Rijsoord, who for once was a team that was worse than Achilles '29. Finally, in the 22/23 season, Achilles '29 in the Eerste Klasse (6th division) finished 12th out of 13 teams and for once was not in the automatic relegation zone (instead in the relegation play-offs zone), but lost the relegation play-offs and got relegated. In the 23/24 Tweede Klasse (7th division) season, they finally survived relegation and this is the first season since the 15/16 Eerste Divisie that they survived relegation. Although I cannot find any information about the standings of the Tweede Klasse, according to Wikipedia, they are still in the 7th tier, meaning that they have finally survived relegation. This means that in just 6 years, they went from the 2nd tier to the 7th tier, or 5 consecutive relegations in just 6 years (if you don't count the seasons of COVID).
Mention crystal palace, if it wasn't for the fans outside the band the club would have went under. And yet only 14 years later the club is at the strongest it has ever been
Southend have had back to back relegation twice. 96/97, 97/98 Championship to League 2 and 2019/20, 2020/21 League 1 to NL. Terrible ownership and d,day winding up order survival led to the 2nd the club are now safe but performing poorly in NL.
Southampton had the most extraordinary story: April 2009: Went into administration and was destined to become defunct July 2009: Liebherr buys the club, who are sitting in the relegation zone of League One March 2010: Southampton Win the Football League Trophy August 2010: Liebherr dies, leaving ownership of the club to his daughter May 2011: Southampton get promoted to the Championship April 2012: Southampton get back to back promotions and are promoted to the Premier League May 2015: Southampton qualify for the Europa League So in 6 years, 1 mans vision transformed a club who were going to end up in league 2, or worse, no longer exist, into a team that played European football and became an established premier league club again RIP Markus Liebherr Always a Legend Always a Saint 😇😇😇
