Isn't Korea a vassal state of China? When Japan proposed forming an alliance to prepare for an invasion by a great power, Korea saw China's expression and refused.

Thoughts of Koreans: Japan did not have the same level of civilization as China and Korea. In other words, it's the same as Indonesia, where Koreans look down on it as a country below Korea.

Thoughts from Koreans: Japan = Pirates. Was Japan really powerful enough to cross the ocean and ravage Korea? Wouldn't it make more sense to think that Wakou were bandits from around the Korean Peninsula?

I kinda understand your view, Korea was never part of China but then maybe a Chinese person may say different depending on what they were taught. In my view as a neutral, China may have had a claim in some places around the boarder area, but that would be what I think would be closer to the truth. But in the areas now known as South Korea, I believe those places were entirely owned by Koreans. But once again, I am just a neutral outsider looking in and trying to find commonality between both sides of history.

I get a little laugh when people mispronounce names foreign to them, but I also know I would be the same if I tried to pronounce a word in a language foreign to myself. Back when I was a kid, everyone around me would say the Japanese city was called Hi-ro-shi-ma, but in reality Japanese pronounce that city as Hiroshi-ma. So I have much respect for people who try to pronounce a word from a foreign language only to get it wrong. It shows much more for how they try to discover a different culture and appreciating it even if they get a few things wrong.

English was not from Latin it has other roots, but the romance languages are, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian and so on. English has a Germanic base, not similar at all with Latin.

16:08 Fun fact: After WWII, Japan was forced to relinquish their military and land and Japan was technically "obliterated". The US actually offered the authority of monitoring the reconstruct of a new Japanese government to the leader of China (R.O.C.), Chiang Kai-shek, but Chiang refused and ask only for the Chinese territories that Japan had taken before WWII to be given back to China. With no one wanting to babysit the Japanese lands, Uncle Sam went in himself and hence modern day Japan was born and why they are so buddy buddy with the US now.

Like the white people made colonies everywhere, Korea was a vassal state, but not a province of China. That's why Koreans were tired of Chinese of treating them like a floating moneybag, they threw away parts of Chinese culture, IE their writing system. Man dat shid is outdated (I can say that cuz I failed mandarin at 52%)🎉

@samuelep.3185 Sure latin has influence. It's still generally accepted that the root language of English is Germanic. Follow your own advice and do a little bit of reading.

@@ExtraDipson He used this example because, as English was influenced by Latin, the Korean and Japanese languages were influenced by Chinese. You tried correcting him, so I thought you believed that there was no Latin influence.

Now I understand why the emperor was so strict against the samurais in the meiji era. All the centrury ago they make the emperor to a puppet for their own sake of ruling the land with thier shoguns and daimyos, but with outside help he finally was able to take his power back and overthrew them fianlly. until he understand he destroys a whole culture of his own country to from it into a modern country, but it think, like in the beginning of Japan as a country it was necessary to destroy them, cause in the early era, they also needed the help of korea and china to make a own goverment and spread literacy, agriculture and religion among thier country, so it was in the end a huge benefit for the japanese people and also the violent oppening lead to thier fortune, even the end of WW2 if you take a closer look on it, cause before they where out of money, but with US Investmens they had a economic miracle and gain a lot of whealt until today. Even is some people disagree, but in the end all played out very well for them, like it was for germany too, after WW2. But the now Russia struggles with their opening after the soviet union and want it back.Putin is like this Tokugawa guy, he want to close the country for western people and transform it back into his old soviet wonderland and if we all know, this is not supposed to be to work well if he really want this. If you take a look at japanese history, cause russia is not a island and isolated form the rest of the world, it doesn't work. I think this whole topic today leads us to another big war and in the end Russia and eastern europe well be free again and rich, like Japan and Germany in the past.

August 15th is actually called the National Liberation Day of Korea. The day marks the annual anniversary of the announcement that Japan would unconditionally surrender on August 15, 1945. All forces of the Imperial Japanese Army were ordered to surrender to the Allies. Independent Korean governments were created three years later, on 15 August 1948. The atomic bombs were dropped on August 6th and 9th.

Slight misconception on your part saying english base is latin, as its based on a germanic language. The proper point would be comparing any of the romance languages that are based on latin eg French, Spanish, Protugese, Romanian, Italian and the like.

The other big reason America was rebuilding Europe and Asia was more practical- the end of WWI. America had tried to warn every other nation that they were setting the stage for another war. Also, that money was often coming back to America since we were not leveled during WWII.

Korea was part of china but not as a conquered territory but as a vassal state in which china put a puppet emperor which has to pay tribute to the Chinese emperor, or else they will be invaded, but even though it seems china itself doesn't want to govern Korea directly so that's the relation ,

i find it interesting that korean comes from chinese. why dont koreans use the chinese letters then? i dont know anything about korea, but from seeing alone, i can see that chinese and japanese are related somehow. but the korean alphabeth looks so different that i wouldnt have guessed korean comes from chinese. the same goes for the language. for my western ear, japanese and chinese sound somewhat close. but korean sounds totally different to me. in my opinion korean is a lot more harder for western people than chinese or japanese.

I agree with the flag statement. For all intents and purposes, the Japanese battleflag is the same as the Nazi or Confederate battle flag. Also, any communist Russian or Chinese flag should be included for the amount of death and suffering that was caused. Unfortunately, it is only winners that decide history. So, with Germany being the only totally occupied axis country in WW2, they were the only ones that faced the full backlash of their atrocities. Japan pretty much got off with an apology.

When it comes to Joseon-China, it is... complicated. Joseon got along fine with the Ming, fighting together against the Japanese in the Imjin War. This ended when the Later Jin (which became the Qing) rebelled and won against the Ming. King Injo supported the Ming and, in retaliation, the Qing invaded in 1627 and 1636. Korea lost and King Injo had to publicly submit to Hong Taji (Emperor Taizing). China didn't absorb Joseon but made it an independent tributary and the two nations got along fine for the next 250 years. After the Donghak Peasant Revolution amd Japan defeating China, Japan forced China to 'recognize Korea's independence' which really meant 'look the other way while we take control of the country for ourselves.'
@Katzeleben6028

I only disagree about a minor tiny detail, Qing didn’t won against Ming, Ming was overthrown by a peasant rebellion, the leader of that rebellion later surrounded to Qing
