Intrication of piano and guitar to support the voice, with this big groovy bass, leading the way. Great era, early 40', when we listen to John Lee Sonny Boy Williamson and the great musicians around.
This video was posted in 2016 and nobody made a comment. Allow me to be the first. This was an excellent bluegrass instrumental, and it beats me how the Aiken County String Band remains unknown today. It’s criminal. That’s what it is. So the record is a tad scratchy. So what. The old-time stompdown still comes through.
Thank you for your important comment! This is a wonderful string band indeed, and the record is very dear to me. I'd better now try to make a new, better, video with it.
Sadly Zimbalist is almost completely forgotten today, but I prefer him to his (far better known) contemporaries Elman and Heifetz. Alongside Kreisler he is, in my opinion, one of the very best early 20th century violinists.
Thanks for this! I am a huge fan. This video has a place in my heart. I think John had a sense of approaching death a few years before he died. He began his concerts with what he called sacred songs like "Near My God To Thee." I think he was ready. Only we have suffered a lost.
