The comment at the end from the presenter summed up the main problem. Identity. I understand why they called themselves Mott however a clean break from the past and a new band name might have been better.

Brian is a wonderful guitarist, his solo on still in love with you is one of the most spine tingling solos I've ever heard.

Man, this guy is good! I know nothing about him; wasn't a TL fan and didn't follow their music. But this sounds like pure straight-ahead blues, not blues filtered through rock or blues/rock. I wouldn't expect someone like this guy to play like this. I love being surprised and pleasantly so.

Crap. This would be about 2 years before I discovered UFO thanks to the Strangers in the night album. And here's me, a 15 year old kid living in Blackpool, not realising they are playing at one of the most intimate live venues in town. Oh well, you can't turn back time... still. Crap!!!

The newly(ish) released box set, with all the source gigs on it proves that it's 99.999999% live. There are a few edits here and there and there may be the odd overdub, but that's it. Additionally, if you listen to the original album, you can hear Phil make a mistake on the bass in the very first track (Jailbreak), Immediately after the first chorus, where it stops after "don't you be around," it should go back to the main riff to go to the second verse. He starts to play the descending riff that takes it to the "breakout" bit (that comes after the second chorus). If this album was so heavily rerecorded and overdubbed, why would they have left that mistake in? Totally in agreement with BD and BR here.

I didn't know they did anything after Ian left. Anyone remember Pavlovs dog? That's what this reminds me of. Certainly the singer does. That or Geddy Lee out slumming with a real rock band.

Mott was a great Rock& Roll band that held their own!! Great songs and lyrics on both albums.

I refused to give this the chance that maybe it deserved because it wasn't Ian Hunter. Therefore it was not MOTT "the Hoople". I was a stubborn teen in '76 A totally different band but it's far from bad
