Brother I’m a new subscriber, mid 40’s in age. I think you got a great thing going, damn proud of everything you have done in life and proud you are doing this channel. When you were doing bucket brigade on the pile at ground zero, I was a rookie street cop in my second month of FTO just after the academy. Proud of all that gave their lives that day, and proud of what you and everyone else who worked that site in some fashion did to help. I feel like a the younger generation are “in need” of this channel. I say that because I feel you may have a lot of older first responser types watching, not all of course but probably a good amount, just because we tend to gravitate to this type of content. But the younger, undecided in life and undecided in career type young people, they can see you and hear the things you been through, would help them in life in general, help them in career aspirations, direction in life, mental health, relationships, all that stuff. Just the military in general, they are having the hardest time recruiting from this younger generation, where back in our day, our grandfathers served, our uncles served, our fathers served and come hell or high water, we would do the same. Something changed in this country. Regardless of your great grandfather and your grandfather and your father and uncles service, not as many young people are stepping forward anymore. When I was a kid it was a given, it was going to happen unless I was told by the powers that be that I could not serve for some reason or another. Now, the young people just want to be on social media and base their life off of that. Weird 💩. I will be sharing this channel with my son, although I really cant make him sit there and watch it, I hope that he does. I was never a firefighter but we’ve walked some of the same walks brother. Keep doing your thing. I’ll be around, have no doubt.

Thank you Jay, aka "hosewagon" for telling us your great story beginning from your younger days until now. I met you, your brother Paul, and your nephew Matt (NHFD) because I became good friends with your father, John. Matt being married to a firefighter in a very busy company in the Bronx Your father was on my oral board exam in Norwich for captain when he was the Chief of the Willimantic FD. I didn't know him until then, although I did spend some time years ago buffing Hartford in the 70s/80s. I hope he is doing okay and I send him a newsletter I put out about once a month called "The NFD GOSSIP NEWSLETTER". Your father had visited me a few times and we went out for chow together with his lady friend. Also, I sent out this video to all the members of that Newsletter (about 140), including your father John, to watch it and I called it - "All in the Family". I spent many years buffing the FDNY starting way back in 1968 and no doubt I caught you in action while working 75/33 or 59. That was a prime buff area for me. I wrote about it on www.nycfire.net calling it "My Younger Buff Years", from NFD2004. My father and my brother were also on the job in Bridgeport. Glad to see you are doing okay and you certainly earned your pay, no doubt about that. I also have many other good friends, mostly retired from the FDNY. One of the craziest stories that blows my mind about 9/11 is that I live in northern Vermont, and my father was a volunteer fireman at the time. His department got toned out to staff an engine and send it across to NY to staff a station that was sending crews to cover for NYC.

Great episode Kenny. You put into words exactly how I feel about my emotional state. I think the hardest thing to do is stay consistent in pursuit of goals and in routine when you’re in a low emotional state. Successful people stay consistent and stay the course regardless of how they feel so thank you For producing the content and putting out the episode while you’re in a valley. I think part of that bipolar up-and-down feeling is our genetics and how we wired and I also believe we have the ability to change our emotional state. You would receive terrible news about someone else while feeling like this you would immediately go into comparison mode and realize my problems are insignificant. There are people in the world praying for my problems. The podcast please keep pressing forward, brother.
