There must be a lot of used boat owners/dealers who despise you for being so truthful. I have always been of the opinion that the best and most enjoyable boat, jet ski, snowmobile, motorcycle, RV, airplane and vacation properties are those that belong to somebody else. Or like a wise old man once told me “If it floats, flies, or f*cks, rent it!”
At the end of the day, you can get a recommendation but the cost, even if it is the wrong prop is absorbed by the boat owner in the trial an pay process. I am currently suffering prop selection paralysis. Waiting on a recommended prop and going to confession Sunday to get in favor with the boat gods
Watching this video will scare the crap out of you! Trust me when I say the best thing you can do is get a boat. Life is better with a boat!! As with anything do your research and match your boat to your lifestyle and usage. If you want to go water skiing buy a boat for water skiing. If you want to cruise and stay overnight buy a boat designed for that. Just like with buying a car, SUV, RV or home. Buy what fits you and your needs. Now regardless of what you buy, big, small, runabout or cruiser there is going to be expenses and maintenance. If you can do it yourself even better, you will save a ton, let me say that again, a ton of $$$ doing it yourself. And it's not hard! In the video he mentioned bottom painting. That can be expensive if the marina does it. (Side Note: If the marina does it, it will always be expensive) The paint is about 150.00 to 300.00 per gallon if you do it yourself. If you can paint a room, you can paint the bottom. And unlike in the past, modern bottom paints do not require that you wear a space suit while painting. If you have a 26 or 28ft cruiser, 1 gallon of paint and a roller. You're done! Again, don't let this video scare you, the best day is when you board your first boat!! I personally like to pull my blue plugs run pink antifreeze through all my hoses till pink runs out. Put blue plugs back in then fill with pink antifreeze. I’ve never had an issue with winterizing this way.

Running a 94 Evinrude 115 Since 98 - Changed 1 starter and 1 coil pack - plugs every other year or so and impeller - run great never had a problem or major mechanical issue.
A boat is only as good as the person whos doing the maintenance and up keep. You treat a boat right, it will last and be pretty dependable. However, leave it outside, uncovered and just bash it then it will snowball quickly. There is a market for all boat manufacturers, not everyone can own Everglades or a Yellowfin or even come close to affording one. Bayliner gets people on the water that could have limited options due to income. So, hats off to anyone who pulls the trigger on one and is able to own a boat for their family. Memories will be made, thats all that matters.
I have a 2006 bennington 2275rl with a yamaha f115 4 stroke with a solas 13.75x13 stainless prop and i see 25mph and was curious if i would possibly benefit from adding lifting strakes.
I bought a Sea Ray SPX 190 brand new less than two months ago, engine failed on the water today! do not recommend anyone to buy any boats with Mercury Engine.
Excellent content as usual. One comment from personal experience, keep those pontoons clean. I have a 22’tri-toon with a 150. With clean toons and just myself, easily cruised at 28mph/3800 rpm’s. Late summer with algae buildup and 6 people? 15 mph! I started taking mine out once per month and pressure washing the bottom. Huge difference!

I’ve not inspected or run either boat but very different so really depends on how you’re going to use it… long runs like doing the loop or or near shore pleasure cruises or day boating
There are 3 just like that on the entrance to the channel from lake Marion to Moultrie. There are massive pieces of concrete and rocks below the ones on Moultrie
What about a 14 foot aluminum fishing boat in Lakes, with just mud , clay, sand , loamy type bottoms..., fishing in 15 to 20 ft water? What weight of a Danforth style anchor for 13 , 14 foot aluminum boats. Thanks to anyone who can provide the info for me!!!
I’d use a small danforth with 5-6’ of chain and 3-5xs the depth of anchor rode/line… the chain and scope are the keys to successfully anchoring with almost all anchors
Mushroom and flute River Anchors , suck in Lakes... The slightest breeze or lake current causes you to drift. Hopefully a " Sea Choice", or similar style will hold boat better.
This is the best video on props that I have seen and I'm in the process of changing mine. I have a 14.3 x 19 aluminum prop on my sterndrive 5.0lL engine and don't need to do 45 mph but would like to get a quicker hole shot. I will go down in pitch, should I still stay with the 14 1/2 diameter. Thank you
I have been in the business for over forty years and you are spot on. Did you miss a few points? Sure. Fuel quality might be an added subject. Me? Gone back to sails and a diesel aux. I'm not on a lake.
I have a Dockhouse in my Backyard with a lift that can pull it up out of the water. Its covered and protected from the elements. Its been awesome owning a cabin cruiser, I take it from florida to the carrabean once a year or so
The towbar on the 2023 Sun Tracker is incredibly strong. It's bolted securely a quarter of the way under the boat with heavy-duty bars, Now the flow torque hub kit is another story.
My Yamaha 275 sdx is a beast on good 😊 ls Lake st Clair. Regularly 2-3 foot chop, no issues going 40 plus. Now the smaller ones yeah, you’re gonna have your teeth chattering.
Where the water intake is, there is a high-level of suction that can suck up weeds plastic bags clogging the intake. If you run an area without weeds, and without a lot of crap in the lake, you may never have this issue
@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon Yamaha has a clean out port on top of the boats. All Yamahas do now, for some years now. Scarabs, seadoo and all the other jets you have to go swimming. Only time I would have issues is if my marina is full of seaweed floating around. It’s very not had any issues driving the boat normally.
@@dcouwlier for sure, and they are great for smaller jams, but the intake grate can still get clogged. I sold them for 5 years and know them pretty well... it doesn't happen everywhere but in areas like MN with lots of grass and weeds it is more common
