This is the youtube channel for Daniel J. Findley, Ph.D, P.E. who is an Associate Director at the Institute for Transportation Research and Education (ITRE) in Raleigh, NC, USA. He specializes in horizontal curve safety, highway design, highway safety, economic impact analysis, unique transportation engineering studies, and logistics. He holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in civil engineering from North Carolina State University.
I think the way to do this is to create a new caption label (Go to "Insert Caption" and then "New Label"). All of the references will now be whatever you define, such as "Fig. ##" instead of "Figure ##". Unfortunately, I don't think you can just cross reference the number which would enable you to use any label you want in the text.
I am multisensory aphantasic, partial SDAM (which is related to aphantasia), and mild autism traits according to screening tests, not descriptions online (which is also related to aphantasia) SDAM = Severely Deficient Autobiographical Memory.
I'm a retired Civil Engineer and started work designing and drawing RC structures, so am quite familiar with real visual detailing that Engineers use. To answer your question, no i cannot visualize and apple and rotate it or anything else. This may seem odd, but for some reason when people said there are visualising, i always thought they meant 'thinking' deeply about a problem or issue, not actually seeing it in their mind. FYI i am Left-handed (i am told there is a lot of left-handed engineers).
@edricketts6887, yes, exactly! I had the same process in mind when people would ask me to visualize - to me, visualization has been exactly what you described, thinking about it deeply, but not having a vivid picture in my mind. I'm fascinated to think about what we will learn about the human brain in the years and decades to come, as research progresses. In terms of the left versus right-handed, I also wonder if there is some relationship there. I think I am naturally left-handed, but many of the things I was taught to do were taught in a right-handed manner, so I do some things left-handed and some things right-handed.
Based on others around me, I feel like my memory is better than average in some areas and not in others. I've always been good in subjects that benefit from memorization, such as dates/years in history, vocabulary words, math, geometry, etc. However, if I tried to draw something, I can't put together all the details to do it completely. I talk a little more about this at 1:25 in the video. Engineering really helped me contextualize the world around me - I think about things not in terms of a visualization, but in terms of distance, angles, measurements, size, mass, forces, mechanical processes, characteristics, etc. Basically, because my mind won't store the richness of a visual image, I have to simplify it into pieces or parts that I can recall. In some ways, I'm probably able to store and recall more information and facts because I don't have a vivid visual image of something. We all have a unique (some more than others) way of seeing the world and learning about this phenomenon has helped me better understand myself and how I perceive the world.
Great Motorcycle riding , were coming up to look for a place to live , I been to Murphy , Hayesville , Blairsville , Franklin , Hiawassi , so far I like Hayesville . haven't decided yet , I worried about the Medical Care in these small town also looking for a good VA Clinic .
Great question - technically, K is the 30th-highest hourly volume of the year. Because of the relatively higher volumes throughout the full day in urban areas compared to rural areas, urban areas typically have a lower K factor than rural areas. For instance, 10 PM in a rural area typically has very low traffic volumes (when I was growing up, in a rural location, only one business in my county was still open at that time), while an urban area typically has many businesses open and a much larger percentage of traffic still operating at that time.
This is an awesome example of pedestrian centric design! People don't have to go out of their way to stop traffic (pushing a button), they just cross like they normally would.
In Ex 2, what if the median width is less than 30? In this case, should we consider this one-stage crossing and convert the median width to its equivalent no. of lanes and use factor for this? Anyway, appreciate your efforts 😊
It depends on the type of design vehicle, but you usually want to assume a few feet of buffer on each side of the vehicle to allow for a two stage crossing. So, a truck that is 30 feet long wouldn't fit in a median that is 30 feet wide, so you would not assume a two-stage crossing. However, a passenger car that is 18 feet long would fit in the median and could be assumed to make a two-stage crossing. You're correct, for a one-stage crossing, any median width needs to be converted to a lane equivalent. Local/state highway departments may also have recommendations, for instance, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) uses 20 feet for passenger cars and 40 feet or more for truck crossings for a two-stage crossing (2003 NCDOT driveway manual, page 27). connect.ncdot.gov/projects/Roadway/RoadwayDesignAdministrativeDocuments/Policy%20on%20Street%20and%20Driveway%20Access.pdf
I'm trying to figure out how to remove -- all at once -- those Videos in the ClipCHamp / Home page -- "Your Videos"... I do not need them [at a later date]; all [videos have been] edited/exported & saved (as final copies). I know that they can be removed, one-by-one... though, would like to just get rid of them. Going into Terminate > Reset and/or Repair does *not* seem to do it, though. Any ideas on how to remove all "Your Videos" at once -- instead of one at a time? 😐
@@FindleyDaniel Yes... thanks. I managed to clear the amount of spaced used [by ClipChamp]... but I am still trying to figure out how to get rid of those "Your Videos" listings (from ClipChamp /Home page. Microsoft claims that you have to delete [Your Videos] one at a time, by clicking on the three dots; then, selecting Delete (confirm). I figured that someone -- usually, there are creative people on RU-vid -- might have found a way of scrapping that list all at once.
@@FindleyDaniel That's ok, Mr. Daniel Findley. I figure that you have better things to do, than correct [Windows 11] issues. I pretty much give up on Windows "Help"; [I get] better results from RU-vidrs... who probably spend more time on Windows than Microsoft does. Heck... *they* did/do not even know that you can mask/blur images in ClipChamp -- but one can.... just takes some time & effort; i.e., multiple edits, whereas only one process can be done at a time. Nevertheless... thanks for the other suggestion (your post topic).
www.ncrabbithole.com/p/why-a-stretch-of-interstate-85-is-backward-in-nc JEREMY MARKOVICH with the North Carolina Rabbit Hole confirmed with the designer, John Watkins, retired from NCDOT, that the primary reason for the crossover was to maintain the right side exits/entrances. Thanks, Jeremy!!
Thank you Daniel, I’m planning on taking the PE Transportation exam, any advices on best books and lectures or any other reference to complete and pass the exam?
Hello! Here's a RU-vid playlist with a lot of NCEES PE exam transportation topics/questions/examples: ru-vid.com/group/PLQ2tBMRKXROYAW4OnuL0GjVgfdrtBp9Pp&si=PuKFwrKXjBExt3rd There are a number of good prep courses you could consider also. The one I help manage at NC State University has a live, online option starting in August if that's of interest: itre.ncsu.edu/training/pe-fe/
Considering the deflection of 25 degrees left, the forward tangent can also be set on the right side of the back tangent. In that case, the northing and easting of the point of interest would be different. Let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks.
You're correct, if the forward tangent instead turns to the right instead of the left, it will change the northing and easting of the the point of interest.
Beautiful. PRAY FOR ISRAEL. THE LORD JESUS CHRIST DIED FOR YOUR SINS AND ROSE AGAIN FROM THE DEAD. WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE YOUR PLACE IN HIS HOUSEHOLD? THEN PLEASE REPENT OF ALL YOUR SINS TODAY AND SURRENDER YOUR ENTIRE LIFE TO THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. NOBODY IS OUT OF THE CANDIDACY FOR BECOMING A CHRISTIAN.
