Any chance of seeing it finished ? Looked on your yt page but didn’t see it. Thanks for posting this . I thought I would not be able to achieve it, because it would not have enough depth to simulate a chimney. But I am saved ! Thanks again
Electricity costs per unit of energy are 4 times more than gas, so it's 3 times as expensive for the same heating taking into account efficiencies of 100% vs 75%. Nearly half of electricity in the UK is still produced from fossil fuels, and a gas power station is only ~49% efficient. Then you have powerline losses, energy used running, staffing and building power stations and networks, all of which adds to the lower efficiency that is reflected in electricity prices relative to gas. Gas looks better and can output far more heat. It does require regular servicing though, which can reduce efficiency if you don't use it much.
Thank you for your comment. You bring up important points about energy costs and efficiency, which are crucial considerations for any homeowner. Energy Cost and Efficiency: Electricity per unit can be more expensive than gas. However, the efficiency of an electric fireplace in converting energy to heat is nearly 100%, meaning almost all the electricity used goes directly to heating the room. This contrasts with gas fires, which, despite having lower fuel costs, lose some heat through venting. Environmental Impact: Regarding the environmental aspect, while it's correct that a significant portion of electricity in the UK is generated from fossil fuels, the trend is shifting towards renewable sources. Electric fireplaces, therefore, have the potential to become more environmentally friendly as the grid becomes greener. Gas, while efficient in its own right, does have a carbon footprint that's important to consider, especially in the context of global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Aesthetic and Heat Output: Gas fireplaces indeed have a traditional and aesthetic appeal, and they can provide more heat, which might be preferable in larger, colder spaces. Regular servicing is a factor to consider both for efficiency and safety. Usage and Practicality: Electric fireplaces shine in their ease of use, low maintenance, and safety. They are ideal for zone heating, allowing homeowners to heat specific areas without heating the entire home, which can be more cost-effective depending on the usage patterns. The LED technology used in electric fireplaces for flame effects is extremely energy-efficient, adding ambiance without significant energy use. The choice between electric and gas fireplaces depends on several factors including personal preferences, space size, usage patterns, and environmental considerations. Both have their advantages and ideal use cases. We appreciate the opportunity to discuss these important aspects of home heating. Our goal is to provide our customers with all the information they need to make the best choice for their homes. 🔥
Very devious & misleading. You can afford for a gas fire to be only 25% efficiency when electricity costs 4x more than gas! Plus there are efficient flued gas fires at 90% and flueless at 100%, meaning that a good gas fire would be 1/4 of the price to run.
@@scudger99 It was a very sensible question. Some fixed electrical items are permanently hard wired directly to the mains (hob, immersion heater, storage heaters etc), often requiring requiring an electrician to use a dedicated circuit & breaker at the board. The answer to the original question is that the majority of electric fires can run off a standard 13a plug because they are typically only 2kW.

Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to friends and family. I didn’t purchase this for a heat source, so I can’t really comment, but the design is perfect for what we wanted.
He appears on a worldwide video removing screws with a pretty pink screwdriver dilly. Poke about with fingers for a moment, sweat the reassembly vocally, and smile real big.
Hi Denise, thank you very much for taking the time to visit our team at Grand Designs Live. Our team loved meeting you both in person and cannot wait to see a picture of your new luxury suite and fire when it's installed!
My media wall doesn’t have a lip at the sides like it does at the front to take the plasterboard too. It’s 3sided. Is this normal for some fireplace to have only a lip at front?
