Really late, but the whole finger on the arrow thing from Avatar could have been trying to replicate something that I've heard of ancient archers doing. They would put their finger on the arrow as they draw and would feel for when the back of their broadhead touches the tip of their finger to work as a sort of draw length affirmation (like how a clicker works on an olympic recurve). Not sure if that's what they were going for, but that's what I thought of.

I have an archery tournament today and I really needed thoughts tips thank you!
@AnchorPointPassions
@AnchorPointPassions 2 года назад
Ok here are my thoughts that I generally tell myself when at a tournament! Always stay positive!! If an arrow doesn’t go where you want it to, it’s already down range. There’s nothing you can do to reverse it, so forget about it and move on to the next arrow. Always reward yourself in your head, when you do have a good shot, that will help you make more! Stay nice and calm (which I know is easier said than done), but know that you have practiced, you have put in the time, and you’ll do your absolute best today, so no matter what happens you tried your best! That normally calms me down quite a bit. What also helps is to be confident in yourself! I don’t know how many competitions you’ve shot, but even if you haven’t shot that many, confidence in your shot and your form will help you stay positive and calm during competition. Now, there’s something me and my friends always say, “stay strong in your shot.” That means pull all the way back in your cams and make strong shots! It’s easy to get weak at a competition when your focused on aiming and your score- but don’t think about those things! You’ll see you score at the end, so don’t think about it while you’re shooting. Just think about making one shot at a time and making strong, confident shots!! I hope these tips help!! If you need any other tips, just reply back!! I’ll be happy to help!

How much $ for these glasses?
@AnchorPointPassions
@AnchorPointPassions 2 года назад
This honestly depends on what you want to get. If you’re ordering from their website the sets (5 lens sets) currently are running around £169.99 which is just about $191.74 USD. Again this could change if you wanted to do a custom set (the price would be higher) or get a set that has 2 lenses (that would be a lower price). I would check their website at xsightsport.com. This is also not the most recent video that I’ve done on these lenses, so if you would like to see my updated review , it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jcTilSPE_yA.html

It can be, it just depends on how much you run in the front vs how much you run in the back. It also depends on how much weight you can hold without getting sore fast, dropping you arm, or your bow arm starting to shake. I normally add about three in the front to start and I’ll double it for the back, which would be 6. From there I’ll add another weight to the front and two more to the back until I get to the heaviest weight possible without it being too much to handle. It’s honestly up to personal preference and what works well for you and what keeps you steady and balanced. I shoot quite a bit, so I’ve been able to build myself up to be able to hold 5lbs in the front. In addition, this is a Bowhunter set up and 5lbs on an 8inch bar feels much different (it’s easier to hold since it’s closer to the bow) than on a 30in, 27in, etc front bar.

Thank u🤙and my niece goes to hempfield and there doing archery in gym and I'm trying to decide what best bow brand would be good for starter bow?
@AnchorPointPassions
@AnchorPointPassions 2 года назад
Honestly I would say it all comes down to personal preference on which bow manufacturer you would want to go with. I’m shooting the Hoyt Invicta, because I feel like it’s a very smooth shooting bow, I can get the aggressive feeling in the cams that I want, and I love the grip too on Hoyts. The reason why you see many target shooters with Hoyts and many 3D and hunters shooting Matthews bows is because historically Mathews marketed towards the hunter and 3D shooters while Hoyt marketed to the target archers. But now you are seeing these companies stretching out and Hoyt is marketing to 3D too while Mathews is trying to get more in the target scene too. I’d say both companies are fine companies, you’ll just have to go in and see what works best for you. I’d suggest going into Lancaster Archery Supply and asking one of the guys to pick out every bow you’re interested in and let you try each out and see which fits and feels best for you, because really all of the new target and hunting bows are so high tech now that they’re all high quality bows. Id say for you niece that a good option for her would be a Mission. I started on the Mission Craze, although a bow closest to that bow now is probably the Mission Hammer. It has an axle to axle of 28”, and IBO speed up to 300, draw lengths from 17-29”, and draw weight from 16-70lbs. So this bow should be able to grow with her, although I would say it would be good for her to about 14 years old due to its short axle to axle.

I got a PSE Xpression 2017 as my first compound a couple months ago. I also thought 40" ATA was just better, but now I've learned it's not, especially at my 27" draw. I should be getting my Invicta 37 SVX in this Friday.
@AnchorPointPassions
@AnchorPointPassions 3 года назад
Yes! I ran into this a while back too! I was trying out new bows and I thought that a 40 ATA would equal more stabilization… I was completely and utterly wrong! The string angle was all off, because at the time I was a 27.5” draw and now I’m a 28”. There were so many things going on with that ATA that were just bad! So yes! I completely agree, for our draw lengths the 37 is much much better! I hope you enjoy your Invicta!

I personally shoot the Achieve XP with the Ultraview. The metal sight tapes are cool, but as a European I have no clue what yards are. I know it's close to a meter, but that's nowhere near close enough to be accurate. I only shoot 45lbs, and pretty slow, so the sight tapes don't match my bow anyways. I'd have to move the first axis down.
@AnchorPointPassions
@AnchorPointPassions 3 года назад
I just switched to the Achieve XP. I honestly didn't think the XP would be that huge of a difference, just because the main difference from the one I had were the metal sight tapes. After getting it though, I definitely see the advantage in having metal sight tapes and I love the new locks on the knobs. I've never had to make sight tapes at 45lbs, so I wouldn't quite know what it would be like to make sight tapes at that poundage (I shoot around 56-57lbs right now). I have moved my sight up/down in the past on the 1st axis to get a sight tape to fit, so I wouldn't be too worried about that unless you can't move it any further down or you don't want to move it any further down, if that's the case then I would try and lighten your arrow or increase your poundage. I do know that with the XP that I got, Axcel does not give you all of the metal sight tapes with the sight, so I would suggest marking your distance marks with a marker on your sight bar or mark them on a thin sticker you could put on the sight bar and then find a sight tape that matches the Axcel sticker tapes that come with your sight. Then you can look and see if you have that number in the metal sight tapes, but if you don't, you'll have to order the metal sight tape. (I'm not sure if you have already done this or not). Another suggestion I would have with the tapes being in yards is that if you have a rangefinder, see if you can put it in yards. I have the Leupold 1600i and I can switch it back between yards and meters and that has been very helpful! If you can switch it to yards, then you could sight in your bow to exactly the marks on the sight tape. You could also take that rangefinder to competitions (that allow rangefinders) and range them in yards so you would know exactly where to set your sight tape. Maybe that would help you out?
@justinvzu01
@justinvzu01 3 года назад
@@AnchorPointPassions That's actually pretty helpful, but I decided to stick with the stock tape, which allows me to set marks where I need them. I don't have a rangefinder, as I only shoot set distanced so far. The locks on the sight are super nice for me, because I'm autistic, so if anything changes even slightly, I will notice. The locks let me know that maybe it's an arrow that's off, or the rest has moved somehow, stuff like that. I'm maybe getting an Invicta 37 SVX this Friday, not sure 100% it's in that shipment though. As for the modules, I'd recommend 65%, as 75% is so light it allows for a lot of torque. Overall I've grown a lot as an archer in the year I've been shooting, both in technique and knowledge. Though I'm never done learning about new technology and tuning.
@AnchorPointPassions
@AnchorPointPassions 3 года назад
Yes! This is what I absolutely love about archery, that you can always learn and grow in the sport! I decided to stick with the 75% mods, because at the time I was still mainly shooting my Pro Force for 3D and when I did switch fully over to the Invicta, I didn’t have enough time to get used to the 65% mods. What I did instead was I increased my poundage and went with the 75%, because the DCX cams are more aggressive than the cams on the Pro Force and so far I’ve stuck with that, but I completely agree with you! The 65% are the way to go! I’m going to have to switch back to the 65 at some point, because they keep your shot strong and steady! Props to you for going to the SVX cams! Those are a little too aggressive for me right now, but I definitely see their benefit!

@AnchorPointPassions 3 года назад
@@jasonbaker2397 Hello! I didn't forget about the video I was going to make on working on TP. Since I am in college, however, getting to actually create videos has been a bit of a struggle, so I thought I would get back to you through the comments! The way that I was able to help out getting through my TP was by first acknowledging what the problem was that I was having mentally. These can be subconscious thoughts that we might not even realize that we have until we really start thinking about it. For an example, the problems in my head were that I had a fear of what other people would think about me if I shot bad; I didn't want to let my team down or my coach; I didn't want to disappoint my family; and I always wanted to be perfect. Because of these thoughts, I started punching my release because it was a way for me to control my shot and get what I wanted, but that never worked out😂 But of course, even if we recognize these subconscious thoughts, just recognizing them isn't going to solve the problem, as I have come to realize! They need to be replaced by positive thoughts. For instance, I realized that I don't need to worry about what others think about my scores, because there may always be someone who will think negatively about me, but they don't need to drag me down and make me worse. I also knew that no matter how I did, those closest to me and the people that were important in my life would always be happy with how I shot, so why was I afraid of disappointing them? To correct my perfection: no one is perfect, so why should I be? I'll make mistakes and learn from them. Everyone will have good days and bad days and I needed to accept that. Also during the pandemic, I realized that I wasn't appreciating the moments that I had when I had them. As long as I shoot the best shots I can, then that's the best I can do no matter what the score! I'd rather walk off the range knowing I did everything that I could and be happy about my score no matter what happens, then to walk off feeling like I could have done more or something different. Now that we have delved into the mental game, now it's time for physically fixing punching the release. I don't know how much you know about backtention form or what release you use, but this form that I use works for finger triggers, thumb buttons, and hinge releases. I have combined a couple different form practices into what I do, but once I drawback and come into anchor, I make sure that all of my fingers have equal pressure on the release (if it is a hinge and you are afraid the release will go off if you let too much pressure off your index finger, then your release is probably too hot). This obviously will not work for a finger trigger, but for this release, once you come to anchor make sure your finger isn't on the trigger until you are ready to shoot (same goes for the thumb button). Then use your back muscles like your trapezius muscles and your rhomboids to expand through the shot. (If you are right-handed, then use your right trap and rhomboid and vice versa). This can be better felt if you rotate your right elbow around your head (if you are right-handed) through expansion. Then while you are doing this, relax the hand that is holding the release. Don't relax your fingers, because then you will be letting go of the release, but relax your hand so that your hand gets longer and your knuckles get flatter. This will help the release fire and by combining all of these tips together, you should have a strong backtenion shot! Now finally for practice. In practicing this, a lot of people have mentioned walk back practice and practicing a lot with blank baling. Really, I only blank baled enough to get my shot down, then I'd go to a semi-sort of short distance, like 20 yards and shoot to make sure that everything is good, and then I go to the distance that I normally practice at and shoot. I started out practicing on black dots. I'd normally draw them the size of what the x or 10 would look like at the distance that I am shooting at and once I get good at hitting that dot, then I start practicing on the target. Another exercise I did was I would aim for the 7 line, the 8 line, the 9 line, and then the ten line on a target, just so I am shooting at other places on the target instead of shooting for the x. You can do this on other types of targets too. But in the end, I just had to get use to using backtension and aiming for the x. When it all comes down to it, I just had to tell myself that my shots had to be strong, backtension shots or I would have to let down if I felt like I was going to punch and I could not accept anything less. In the long run, backtesnion will really help! I hope that these notes help you out! If there are any questions about anything, just let me know and I will try to explain them further. I'm sorry that I wasn't able to make a video about this, but I also wanted you to be able to get the information that I was going to put into it! And I probably will make a video on this, it'll just be a bit. (Also, sorry for the long paragraph😂)... also one last thought, I wasn't sure how much you knew about any of this process, so I thought I would just be as detailed as possible so you get as much information as possible on it! Hope this helps!!

It’s actually kind of interesting. I’ve been thinking about making a Pt. 2 video for this because I listen to different music, so I can end up with the same consistent mood- it’s actually really interesting. If I’m too nervous and shaking- then I’ll listen to happy music, if I’m tired and not awake- I’ll listen to heavy metal, if I don’t have motivation to get up and shoot- I’ll listen to pop/rap, and if I am relatively calm then I’ll continue to listen to calm music before I get out on the range. All of these kind of equal me out to about the same calm-ish, slightly pumped mood that I need to shoot well on the range!
