Here's a demo of the song from when Kansas was working on it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hy7r6MY-XQ8.html And here, of course, is the final version Streets released: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IOXU-L6ymuo.html
Find the song "Can't Cry Anymore" from their "Power" album. Perhaps the most emotive male rock vocal I've ever heard from anyone. Steve Walsh's finest moment behind a microphone.
Kansas were one of the original true progressive rock bands. I had the pleasure of seeing Kansas live (and meeting Steve Walsh) at one of the most unusual venues you could imagine. Back in my US Navy days ... probably around 1986, I was on board the USS John F. Kennedy, CV-67. Kansas, along with Pablo Cruz and Michael Macdonald of the Doobie brothers, came and played a live show for us right there on the hangar deck in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Later on, I got to meet and chat with Steve for a minute.
This is chilling! I fell in love with Beardfish in 2008 and never had the chance to see them. My hope has been rekindled. One of my favorite tracks by them too!
Thank you for posting this. Very rare. I’ve seen some of the pictures but many are really great and ones I’ve never seen. How did you uncover this rare audio?
The process of covering this song has helped me to appreciate its many intricacies, and many unique live versions, for that matter! I wonder how many performances of this you've listened to, for this to be the favorite out of them? The vocals are impeccable; Walsh's voice truly soars on the high notes. It's fascinating to hear a version in '76, the band relatively fresh out of the studio sessions for Leftoverture. Overall, a wonderful recording - tacksåmycket!
It's amazing that his touring voice is as good as his studio voice. So many vocalists, even great ones like Mercury and Plant, could not hit the high notes with a tired tour voice, and reduced their vocal parts often to low harmonies in those situations. Walsh nails them, and even rises above the studio version. Wow!
Wow, why did this song not appear on an album ? It's a great tune. I feel like I discovered new ( old ) Kansas/ Streets. Pretty exciting because Kansas is my favorite band.
I know! Streets did play it live however, a shorter version but still. The vocal harmonies on this song give me goosebumps every time. You have probably seen this video : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J5sxMGVXBQY.htmlsi=yoq-Mt750GR73T2A

""STEVE WALSH WAS AT ONETIME HAD A TREMENDOUS-VOCAL-OPTIC-RANGE AND PRESENTATIION, ""HIS-SINGING STYLE WAS THEBEST AT ONETIME OR ANOTHER""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you can listen to this voice "circa 1970's"- 1980's and not get a chill up your spine or the hair on your neck standing up! Then you, dear friend must be one Deaf "Son off a bilfitch" (I say that with all do respect!)
My FAVORITE band! Six incredible musicians, most importantly Steve Walsh on vocals, Kerry Livgren who wrote the outstanding progressive songs, Robbie Steinhardt on violin and vocals, and Phil Ehart, a greatly underrated drummer. I saw the original 6 eight times and they were by far the best band I ever heard!
Steve Walsh is an original. There are great keyboard players out there. They are great singers out there. They are great performers out there. He’s all of those and more. I love the way he sings in his prime where he can sing the melody, but also go above the melody in certain spots just because he can.
Wow!!! Steve’s vocals are crystal clear!…but who couldn’t help but notice the amazing bass lines. It’s always been a wonder to me, how 5 other guys could get together just to highlight the incredible talent of Dave Hope!
Really cool. I didn’t know Kansas did a demo of this song! It definitely would have been for Audio Visions. Just hearing Walsh sing this brings a smile to my face, what a beautiful voice! Warren Ham ultimately sang the song on Kerry’s studio version for his Prime Mover album…
I saw Kansas twice in the mid 70's....the most impressive live act I've ever seen/heard...in reference to Steve Walsh in particular,...first & foremost the Voice: best tone, power, control, vibrato, pitch, breath control & overall technique...musical abilities: (multi- instrumentalist) organ, piano, percussion: notably, bongos & vibraphone. Walsh was one of the very few singers that absolutely laid it all on the line in a live performance!!...many times changing the original melody & opting for a higher more technically challenging melodic line!!!...I would be remiss if I didn't mention his polyrhymic abilities on keyboard...if you haven't seen Miracles out of nowhere live, do so & pay particular attention to the bass & treble clef lines that Walsh is performing simultaneously during the Fugue portion of the song!!....absolutely incredible!!!...he does the same polyrhymic technique on The Spider!!!....truly the most talented Singer/Musician/Frontman I have ever witnessed!!! 0:57
