The Sonora Guitar Intensive is an intensive program designed to help intermediate guitar players break out of multi year plateaus, attain fretboard fluency and advance many years forward in their guitar playing in a short period of time.

The curriculum is the product of over 20 years of teaching experience and is custom tailored to the needs of each student. We’ve taken the traditional approach to teaching the guitar and brought it into the year 2020.

Sonora Guitar Intensive is quite different from your ordinary guitar program. We combine the best elements of traditional private study, with cutting edge software, techniques from accelerated learning and language acquisition, and direct 1 on 1 mentorship from some of the best guitar players in the world. We carve a straight path from where you’re at on guitar, to a thorough understanding of the instrument in a clear and methodical way.

Theory is what came along after some genius created something in order to explain to the rest of us why it works. The genius probably doesn’t know or care because they just pulled it out of their soul. So Billy shouldn’t lose too much sleep over not knowing about tritone subs. He probably does know about them, he just doesn’t know that’s what they’re called. Bird was probably doing them instinctively in 1940 and then some theorist came along and gave it a name. Just keep doing whatever you’re doing Bill. It seems to be working.

I’ve played the guitar off and on for 25 years, but after discovering billy strings, I’ve made it a point to play for an hour or two every day. It’s been a year and half now. I practice blue grass songs and difficult blue grass runs and solos. I feel guilty on days I don’t play, and I always have a guitar pick in my pocket.

I can identify with exactly how he feels being a musician that learned by ear and happened to have a natural talent to improvise...but only to a point. There comes a time when theory is needed on some level. However I've always felt a huge divide and turnoff (maybe because I'm on the side I'm on) between musicians who went out and just started writing and playing and making it happen vs. the musicians who learned all they know by getting a 4 year degree going to college for music theory. There's a zone and feeling you get when you're on stage or in an epic jam and it's like a spiritual thing... Suddenly you become simply the vessel that the music flows through and every note is magic. College can't teach that shit.

William Von Stringinhamm is a model of humility as a role model for young people to learn how to play their favorite music on their favorite instrument, which is to say the relative nature of all things renders us all students in all things in life relative to each other, and music is one of those things, there's always more to know, it never stops. 🤘

I can't believe Billy Strings is involved with these scammers. I'm guessing they are paying him like many other sites to become affiliated so they can get some inertia to overcome all the negative experiences people have had. I am also someone who hates these guys (Not Billy but dude, get out before they bring you down with them) Class action buzz going around apparently.

Hey! Haha! at 63, after playing over 50 years off and on I still suck. I have played coffee shops and with bands and friends and I have even taught a few to enjoy themselves with their guitar. I am starting again as a beginner and I am excited about playing again. I gotta keep it fresh or I sometimes feel like I need to just burn my guitars and drop it

Finally! As a lifelong classical, jazz, and blues player, shaking the neck at the end of a note does absolutely nothing. It looks ridiculous for the player since it suggests that he thinks it creates vibrato, which it does not. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

It's so heartening to know that even Billy is humble enough to keep learning. I've been picking for over fifty years, and a LOT of my stuff is stuff I figured out in the first five years I played, I'm just better at it now. I don't know theory either, I learned by ear and by watching people and looking at tablature to help me learn chords.
