Mostly bass covers, many of which can't be found elsewhere. Amateur and mostly self-taught bassist. I make these videos just for fun. Hopefully you will hear a song you don't know and like it, or maybe one you know and love.
I listened and listened (even slowed down) and watched live videos and I think he initially comes down to fret 2 after 5. Heres a quick video with an isolated demo of both: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7sYzIzTC6ME.html
@user-nz9uv3nv6x I included one-string riffs to really hear the difference. But in the end, just play it how you like it! (I didn't play it very well and I'll be the first to admit it!)
The two strings are tuned a fifth apart. It sounds to me like it's probably C-G but I would have to sit down with a bass to be sure. I think I actually moved the G string to the a string position to record this. I heard somewhere that Mark use the guitar string as the upper string some of the time. And you are correct about the harmonics. This bass throws crazy overtones even when you just look at it sideways. The L-2000 does not have a classic tone knob as such, but this is what it sounds like with very mild settings! The bass and treble knobs and behave like something in between a tone knob and a classic EQ adjustment. They're both backed off to about 50% in this video. The preamp switch is set to passive, which is the least aggressive of the three settings. The volume knob is backed off to 75% which on this bass actually tames the tone a bit as well. And some other videos I use some piano tuning felt strips strung between the wires above the first fret or on top of a foam block down under the strings by the bridge.
@xFERIKKUSU Yes indeed! I usually wait until I've heard a song many times before trying to learn it. Salaryman was an exception! I started learning it from the second time I watched the video. I've only just purchased their album on Bandcamp (highly recommended) so it will take me a while to digest the rest of their songs.
Heres a link to the tabs. The notes are mostly all there but you'll have to figure out the timing on your own. I couldn't reproduce all of the ghost notes and (accidental) harmonics, but this it's close to what I played. tinyurl.com/BFEMD-Needle-tabs
Thanks! Arthritis at the base of my thumb makes it very difficult to hold a pick, but fortunately the strings were still somewhat twangy when I recorded this.
The sound algorithms on FB, Insta, and TikTok are HORRID! The "Loudness Penalty" on RU-vid is annoying but if you're listening on a decent system, the quality of the original recording does not suffer as much.
Haven't heard this one in years! I think my favorite that I was always blasting in the car back in the day was their song "I Confess":) A little walk down memory lane. lol Been enjoying your choice in songs to cover:)
Very beautifully played! Was listening to this on the way home today, haven't heard it in quite some time. Grabbed a bass and started noodling around with it, loved your take on it:) I'm surprised you don't have a boatload more views. I will learn this one:) Well done!
Sorry no, I usually just play by ear. Here's a more recent bass only cover by Steve Badach that might help. His covers are typically more accurate than mine, and he has much better technique. Hope it helps. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HWT3MeDdP5w.htmlsi=_0S_0mFe26tEufQm
