The Thoroughbreds of our farm have been clocked at 40.9 mph for 3/8 mile in official workouts. The fillies of our farm seem faster than the colts. Our 1st horse, Turk, who was a Welara, a cross between a Welsh & an Arabian was clocked at 29 mph. We received a large speeding ticket of $500 US dollars in 1982 by a sheriff of the county we lived in at the time! The speed limit at that time was only 10 mph for any public beach here in Oregon at the time. It has since been raised to 25 mph as the traffic court became tired of all of us horse people contesting the tickets! I was offered work riding & teaching Thoroughbreds to be ridden because of the ticket. I now live with a herd of Thoroughbreds here in Dayton Oregon. This was an interesting video. I have taught numerous breeds of horses to be ridden including Belgian,Percheron, BLM feral horses,Arabian,Appaloosa etc. I did not realize the speeds of several of the breeds of horses you showed. Thanks for posting.

Question, does the horse throw its head back to intentionally harm the rider or is it just something they do? Is the martingale a training tool or simply to prevent the head raising? Thank you for the video as well.
@strathornfarmstables
@strathornfarmstables 2 месяца назад
@@tinalawrence2595 some horses just have high head carriage so will always have a martingale, otherwise you lose contact with the bit and therefore speed control. I’ve never seen one doing it to harm a rider, normally they rear or buck to get a rider off

@@strathornfarmstables Good morning 🌞 One additional question. Is the martingale always used in conjunction with a bridle/bit?

Hi, these horses are not classed as "True" blue roan, but have some blue roan on their coats. "True" blue roan horses have the white hairs through their entire coats and are likely to also have a solid coloured face
