I have a horse ranch with a manure pile that my husband calls my Bandini Mountain. I’d like to start rows of manure to do migrating worms. It’s getting too difficult to give away my gorgeous compost. My current mountain is about 60’ x 40’ which is mostly composted I’d like to try worming. HELP!

the worms could hang out by roots over other areas as they a would have a higher percentage of bacteria by the roots, great design, we need another one and are going to make this one as it looks like the best design ive seen, thank you for sharing

Hi Brian love the vids, but it took me a while to figure out what size bin this was made from. I recon it’s a 240L but it’s just a guess.

Hello Brian, whereabouts did you store your bag of lawn clippings for 3 months? You mentioned not watering it or turning it but this mean it is left in the rain outside for 3 months or is it stored under cover out of the rain? Thanks. Will be buying some worms off you once I've aged my clippings.
@BrianTheWormMan1
@BrianTheWormMan1 2 года назад
Hi Denyse Yes, just out in the rain/weather. Youll find after 4 weeks there will be insects and worms appearing on the edges and underneath from the ground. I couldnt keep the devils out of it, even when I built a 1 metre high stand to sit it up on :P Cheers :)

So is a CFT worm used for kitchen scraps? If so how much and at what rate do you feed in kitchen scraps. Don't want to put too much in so that the worms cant keep up and food goes putrid.

I have a ton of paper (my wife runs an at home medical billing and kids doing remote schooling). Is there a problem with using paper? My worms currently compost the paper in my non CFT bins.

If you’re regularly adding powdered/crushed egg shells is that sufficient to buffer the pH? I’ve measured the pH of my bedding several times and it’s always been OK but have never added lime or dolomite. I’m assuming the egg shells are doing the job

Hi Brian. I have just completed a worm bin out of a 240 litre bin the same as yours. I have just glued some aluminium flyscreen insect mesh to the inside of the four breathing holes at the top. I used liquid nails as the glue and wondered what you used to glue your mesh to the bin. Thanks for the all the info in your clip.

Insect repellent also? I heard that it help to keep flies and mite etc.
@BrianTheWormMan1
@BrianTheWormMan1 4 года назад
Hi Deanna, even though that is a popular myth, I find it incorrect. It certainly keeps bins from getting too acidic. Acidity is bad for worms for several reasons, and encourages mites and pot worms to prosper. Thanks for watching :)

Great video! When do I add the worms please? Onto the final top layer as you have shown, with a piece of hessian or cloth on top? If I'm using worms from my existing farm, would a few generous handfuls be enough?

How do you know it’s acidic without a ph tester?
@BrianTheWormMan1
@BrianTheWormMan1 4 года назад
Decomp is acidic by nature. Worms also need access to calcium and trace minerals. You dont need to test, its a precaution :) Thanks for watching

Hi Brian! Salute from Brazill your vídeos are awsome! Thanks for sharing your experience. I raise African Night Crawlers in a worm bin. I like d the CFT system that you showed. Can ANC be leptospirose in a CFT container? I hope so. Regards
@BrianTheWormMan1
@BrianTheWormMan1 4 года назад
Its said ANC cast is too "sandy" for a cft, but im not sold on that excuse. I created a beast just for anc but the stock got compromised by reds and blues so I gave it up. If you try it, let me know how it goes :) Thanks for watching :)

Brian... do you still have your flow through and what is your verdict on how it worked?
@BrianTheWormMan1
@BrianTheWormMan1 4 года назад
Hi Chris - I have the wheelie bin restarted, I had to move some stuff around and it got decommissioned for a while, but it is back in use. The 3 x BEAST wooden CFTs are still in use. Theyve been in continual use since building them, providing bulk VC for sale. Thanks for watching :)

what is the purpose of adding the dolomite limes and other various powders before you add the worms
@BrianTheWormMan1
@BrianTheWormMan1 4 года назад
Hi Ryin. The decomposition process is acidic, conditioner helps neutralise that. Worms also need access to calcium for several reasons and also trace minerals. Thanks for watching :)
@Ryin88

throughout the videos so far ive seen fruit flies and house flies in the worm inn. How have you dealt with pests. And Im not sure if youve mention it, but is your worm farm indoors or outdoors?
@BrianTheWormMan1
@BrianTheWormMan1 4 года назад
Hi Ryin, this worm inn started life in the shed, then got moved outdoors under the shade house that holds three of the wedge systems. It has now been decommissioned to give room to the new bath tub (check out the latest vid on the channel.) I dont try too hard to deal with insects - I dont think of them as pests, just a natural part of worm farming or composting. Thanks for watching :)

Hi Pratik. Probably first harvest was about 12 months in as I didnt push the system too hard. 3 to 6 months is quite common though. Thanks for watching :)
