I’ve had 8 greyhounds through the years, German shepherd’s, bloodhounds, basset hounds. I can say ALL the males are more needy, clingy, etc. Females are more independent.
No dog should be alone for more than 8 hours tops! I’m now on my 8th regular sized greyhound and they just seem like a much larger version of your little one.
Believe it or not, I have had the version of the italian Greyhound with long hair, surely coming from a mix, but when I cut his hair in summer it was exactly the same.
Without a doubt! ❤ Take all that love as much as you can. My eyes tear up seeing Nello, my Rocco was like his twin and passed last month. I miss him so much it hurts 💔
I have had a total of 4; all rescues. People can't handle them for many reasons. Potty training is #1 on the list. It takes a long, long time to potty train these dogs. 2nd reason is they are prone to breaking their legs. They like height, but obviously, they don't have claws like a cat to assist when they lose their balance. They also have dental issues as they get older. Brushing their teeth regularly may help. 3 of my IG's lived to be 17 yrs old. My last one died shy of his 16th birthday 2 months ago. My next IG rescue will be a senior (like myself) because a puppy may outlive me.
My sister's female was strange in that she had in the household another dog of a different species and she would often go out of her way to sit next to him. BUT when it came time to sleep she would growl and mean it ==go away this bed is MINE. Otherwise she was devoted to her partner. To me that was inconsistent strange behavior. When she had the zoomies the other dog would try to keep. up----NO WAY so eventually it was a one woman show and I have said THESE dogs LOVE to run. Do you consider Greyhound racing cruel? some think thoroughbred racing cruel for horses. Yes there is whipping going on and sometimes drug enhancers but I think those thoroughbreds want to run. We two leggeds have taken advantage of it for betting purposes. I am guilty of that myself.
had an italian greyhound that boarded at a kennel, it broke its leg just from jumping up and down at the kennel gate, since then I'd tell poeple not to get one cuase they can hurt themselves very easily. Thier thin legs are so easy to break, diff not a dog for kids or poeple that don't have someone who can keep an eye on them or wants a pet they can rpugh house with.
Not true. Very important to crate train when they are young. My iggy does fine sleeping 8hrs in his crate. He is clingy. Clothes he likes when it's cold or the ac is up. He has a favorite loose fitting flannel long sleeve shirt he likes. We keep fakefur blankets on the sofas and he usually burrows under them.
