14:46 I’m curious about how this measurement with dividers works? It doesn’t give you the circumference of a circle, rather the circumference of a pentagon or hexagon or similar. What does the measurement tell you?
"How to make a Wooden Barrel with your own hands" Uses hands to push wood along a table-saw, planer and router...... "We make an cherry barrel at home." With our wood-shop we have at home..... Might as well order a whiskey barrel while at home and claim you did it with only two fingers. Not griefing on your workmanship but on your presentation.
And if I tell you that I made a circular saw, two milling tables, a clamping device and many other tools with my own hands... Then it will be considered that the barrel was made with my own hands...
@@tmzhenatanwoodworking7252 If you stay away from using power-tools I'm okay with that. The electric power wasn't hand-made, was it? As far as effort goes, the tree did most of the work and a woodworker should remember that first and foremost. Your method is: "with your own hands and some power-tools".
To make working hoops you need to rivet one side of a steel strip on an anvil. Then, after several uses, the hoop itself will take the required angle...
Thank you for the video. I love your content and was excited to see this in my feed, even if it was a bit later than when you posted it. Your work is amazing and easy to follow even without commentary. Makes me wish I could try making a barrel right now. Maybe in the future when I get some more tools and space. Cheers!
Hay Cooper, can you make a keg, 7'-8' tall on the oval? I made a keg. Oval not round, for my dog. Like on a St. Bernard would carry, Only my dog I made it for was a Rott'nDane. Walnut/oak striped staves. I pre-bent the staves, Boiled them in a pot and bent them over a nail peg board in an arch between the nails. This was 30 years ago and there was no YT/internet. I have to figure it out on my own as there were no coopers around. What neck of the woods are you?
I am a self-taught cooper and can make an oval barrel, but not as big as you made... And not for a dog, but for aging drinks... Here is a link to the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Qkd5C-QMDLc.html
No doubt! He needs to move his machine to the right of the room. Then stand to the left of the blade as he faces the machine and push the material through with a combination of forces. Foreword, of course. Down, not much with material like this. And then towards the fence. You develop a feel for this depending on the material. If there is any kick back, he will be outside of the trajectory. What am I saying? I would flatten one side on the jointer, then go to a band saw.

Thank you so much for these videos, really inspiring! One question, how long do you dry the wood after rough cutting the boards? I.e. are the board carpentry dry before you start forming the staves?
That was extremely satisfying to watch. Also, something I've always wanted to try. I thought the rings had to be forge welded for strength, but you just cold riveted. Would you mind sharing some information on the steel you cut and the rivet material you used?
Thank you very much!!! For the manufacture of hoops, I use a galvanized or stainless steel strip 1.5 mm thick and 20-35 mm wide, depending on the volume of the barrel. To connect the hoops, I use steel rivets with a conical head, size 5x10 mm.
I love watching your videos! They are inspiring I want to build my own barrels someday. But one question, why do you drill the holes so late in the process? Why not drill the bung hole during the sanding phase? Would that not save the plug from potentially falling into the finished barrel? Thanks again!

It’s hilarious seeing so many people pretend they knew what a cooper was before this video but all they did was read other people’s comments then started pretending they knew what a cooper was too, lol. You can always tell when that’s the case. Everyone starts spamming the hell out of the word.
I’ve wanted to build my own barrels for a long time. When the video started I was thinking yeah I can probably do this. About half way through I was thinking nope lol! Excellent job on those barrels!
Thank you very much!!! If you subtract the time for intermediate drying, then you can make a barrel completely by hand, without power tools, in 2-3 days...
@@MichaelGlennglennimages I am a self-taught cooper... And I make barrels in my free time from my main job. This is my hobby, not my income... I sometimes sell my barrels...
Very impressive & beautiful end product! However, that blackened inner surface doesn’t look very appetising for storing liquids. But, no doubt, is all part of the process…
