Really nice video, my grandmother had a 1300 estate for years when I was growing up. Really wanted it as my first car, but sadly it was one of those scrapped in the early 1990s. I've still got the badges my dad pulled off it before it was crushed 😢
I'm sorry to repeat to you, what I say to everyone - but Harris Mann didn't actuslly style this car. No one person did - like Alec Issigonis didn't mastermind the Morris Minor (, he only oversaw its development. Which is more than Harris Mann did - he just submitted a sketch, which was less dumpy, but less characterful, than this eventual MASTERPIECE, in my opinion! BUT the shape was taken from an earlier, exclusive sporty coupe , using parts from the Mini 1000! That was called the OGLE SX 1000. By Ogle Design. ( please look this lovely car up on the internet - there is a feature on it!)
Great video. Can't believe how many Maestros and Montegos were there! Did anyone do an official count of them on the day? Lovely to see all of the rare BL cars getting so much attention as well👍
Great video. Sully car show is a fab day. Sadly I couldn't be there in a classic this year, but I did come down for a few hours to see the cars. I couldn't believe how many cars were there! Your Allegro looked great as well. Hope you made it back safe👍
@@DanLTjoe Definitely! Safe to say i saw a lot more people taking photos of your Allegro than I did the Hondas next to it! Sadly, I didn't get a chance to say Hi, but it was nice to see the Allegro again 👍😎
Thanks Mark, i’ll be at the next Pride of longbridge next year for sure, my next event at Gaydon will be BL day on July 9th with the Maestro 😁 Take care ❤️
@@markhuckercelticcrossbows7887 Awesome! If you need any MG6 tips just ask me, as you may remember and I used to own a 16 plate MG6, nice car but ours was very troublesome sadly!🙄
So cool seeing all those Allegros in convoy, it could've been a 1970s British Leyland promotional video for the Allegro haha! Your Allegro sounds like its running really well. Can't believe how lucky you got finding those old photos of your car. I love old photos like that, it reveals and documents a bit more of the cars history. Great upload, glad you made it back safe. Its giving me more confidence in my Mini lol, which is making a similar trip from south wales to London next weekend 👍
It’s a real pleasure to see an old car like the allegro, being enjoyed as intended, and as a reminder that they were unfairly maligned back in the day ❤
Ah thank you!😁I still have this Allegro although I only drive it twice a week or so for local journeys usually, its rough around the edges but on the road and being enjoyed 😁
That started up really well! I'm not sure why Allegros ever got a bad reputation for being unreliable. It started up better than my mini which definitely isn't happy starting up in the cold haha.👍
Thanks! 😎 Started up-made this video after around 2 weeks parked up un used with freezing temperatures outside. I think it due to lack of maintenance... These A series engines are always reliable if looked after, this one is still running on old school points-condensor too, no electronic ignition here ☺️
@@DanLTjoe Definitely!👍 My friend has a 1100cc Mini Clubman estate and its never gone wrong in nearly 10 years of owning the car. Its the same with any old car I suppose. If you look after the car, it will run forever.😎 Its also great to see a classic car used all year round. I love using a classic at winter time. I hate the idea of hiding a car away in a garage for months. 👍
I saw this car last Sunday at the Vale of Glamorgan car show, lovely example and great to see its been kept in such original condition! Thanks again for letting me sit in the Allegro and have a good look around as well!👍
Hi Mark! ☺️ I will be at POL with my Allegro featured in this video but i’m staying up in Longbridge on Friday 22nd the day before the big day on 23rd ☺️ Hopefully see you at POL? Sure you’ll find me, not many Allegro’s attend the event sadly, no idea why. Love a Metro btw! If we cant meet at POL perhaps we can meet at Magor services some other time? 👍
Nice clear instructions for a learner, and tho' an offset square steering wheel may be a bit confusing, the Allegro is a nice little car to learn to drive in, not least because it isn't too crazy and that engine whine helps judge gearing well.
Fantastic video and car I had a Allegro 2 back in the day it was a good car not many problems at all and I had a Austin 1100 as well in blue the Allegro was lime green not a popular colour but different keep up the video's a little light resto on the paint and it will be great Dan
Haha! Ah thanks Stephen! 😘Yes you are not wrong started from a very young age all due to my dad having Rover and Austin cars whilst I was growing up for sure, definitely influenced my choice and love for these cars! 😁
The Allegro was a popular car in New Zealand until the arrival of Japanese imports local Allegro assembly was carried out by NZ motor corporation the largest engine was the 1500 although a few 1750s were privately imported from England . I learned to drive in my brothers chocolate brown LE 1300 it was a fun little beast the handling made you feel like you were driving a larger mini yes it had it's faults but what 70s car didn't
Really good to see a honest low miles car I had two aggros and loved them 2 one was series 3 in lime green are you going to restore the paint work I'm sure this will be a good investment so keep and enjoy
O aye remember the first one they got on the farm in 1972. And from childhood remember the certain noises from the gears and the indicators. As what they had before had no radio.hester or flashes. Just old stick out trafficators . The allegro was the first decent comfortable car we had ever had. Always remember it man832a.
