I am a RU-vidr who does commentaries on popular games such as Call of Duty and Battlefield. I do other games as well! It just depends what I feel like at the time! I hope you like the content I post as I do enjoy making it! Thanks! :D
It’s not that they killed Alex. It’s not even that they made him the villain. It’s the execution that sucks. They made him too edgy. He just become a shitty, cliche, joker style villain going “Oh, look how unhinged I am. I’m going to wax poetic and contemplate the philosophical implications of my situation, drawing insane and violent conclusions which I will then spend 5 hours monologuing about!” And then they kill him off in an underwhelming fight, only showcasing the insane power that both he and Heller possess in a post fight cutscene.

It’s just funny that you’re fighting the guy that you played as in the first game you go apeshit with him and all it’s like versing your younger self, I guess 😂
Mercer is acting as someone superior (teacher) and even says "I taught you well" and Heller replied "You didn't teach me shit", Heller is right, he didn't teach him anything besides consuming someone for their memories, Heller even says "Now I know you're just trying to make me mad" meaning that all of that could just be a way of provocation. As much as people want to believe Mercer had a bigger plan by letting Heller consume him, he might've just done all of that to simply piss Heller off and throw him off balance in order to kill him. On top of that his boss quotes could be interpreted as guidelines for the player on how to win this fight, there are no text tips only verbal tips. Until Prototype 3 (if it ever comes out) we will never know and even then it depends in what direction they are gonna take the new game, It's not gonna be same thought process that Radnet had in 2012 so we might never know.
I can give an actual reason, James heller was stated multiple times to be a different mutated variant than that of usual prototypes in that he ended up being close to resembling Alex right. Do research and listen in game they say James Heller he has exeptional unique DNA, we simply have to accept that James mutated variant is stronger and more powerful, think like broly from dragon ball, a mutated saiyan. And heller had his human willpower to keep him going, Alex is just a shell.
“Welcome to the top of the food chain” 12 years later I still catch myself thinking about Alex saying that it’s like he knew he was too far gone he couldn’t have ended himself even if he wanted to he was too powerful and instead of fighting it he basically let evolution take its course if heller didn’t kill him alex would have led to the extinction of humans and the virus would corrupt the world similar to the flood
Crazy how peoplw still think Alex can escape from Heller. Wasn't it clear that he used all of the power he got from Alex to destroy the streets of red zone? There is literally nothing left of Alex inside Heller
Alex: Impressive, I thought you Well... Heller: You didn't teach me... Player: Oh my God... (That Line wasn't meant for Heller, it's for the Player when he first Controlled Alex in the First Game. He broke the 4th Wall.)
While I like this games concept I think there should have been about 2 more games playing as Alex to see more development past the first game and see his descent into the monster we see him as in this game. With maybe James coming into the third but we still play as Alex in that game and see his full descent and then in the fourth now Alex is this big bad and we are now playing as James.
