Oooh, no. That sounds like it’s the electroluminescent strips. Unfortunately, only a known working set from a junkyard car will fix that. Sorry to hear that.
Hi! I have an 86 Caprice. My power seat goes for and tilts forward, but it will NOT move backward or tilt backwards. Any ideas? I do hear the motor click every time I engage the switch weather it's a working move or not. Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you either have a power seat transmission issue or the motor is only turning one way. I’d start with a test light and make sure the motor is getting power in both directions. If there is power in both directions but the motor only turns one way, the motor is bad. Only power to one direction and you’ve got a wiring issue, check the relay outputs. If the motor turns both ways but the seat doesn’t move, remove the transmission and clean and re-grease it. If I had to bet, I’d put my money on the relay wiring. Thanks for watching and reaching out.
When I was a teenager I collected these ads and dreamed of the day I could own a Cadillac. I still have these ads and one of my favorites is a little black and white clipping from a news paper ad for Capital Cadillac of Atlanta. It's the front clip of a 1962 Fleetwood 60S the the caption "CADILLAC GREATNESS NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE". To me still CADILLAC THE STANDARD OF THE WORLD
Remove the radio knobs and hex nuts between the knobs and the radio. Remove the two center A/C outlet vents to access the screw in each outlet. Remove the lower left and lower right screws on the center trim plate, and shazam, the whole center panel comes out. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and for reaching out.
Thanks for watching and reaching out. If you mean removing the mirror and the cable as a single unit, yes, that is pretty easy. If you mean removing the cable from the mirror itself, I've never been able to do that. I tried to reverse engineer how they built it new, and haven't been able to figure it out. I have a half dozen mirrors with cables that no longer control the glass, so if anyone knows how to rebuild those, I'm intereseted.
Yeah, the problem I’m having is I want to get my mirror re-chromed but the chroming business said that I have to remove the cable before they chrome the housing of the mirror. I had one extra mirror that I tried to reverse engineer it to remove the cable, but I ended up ruining the cable trying to get the cable out of the housing mechanism.
@@andremitchell4966 Yeah, that's exactly the same thing I found. According to the Fisher Body Manual, those mirror cables were form fitted at the factory and excepting for the glass, they are not serviceable. If anyone out there knows of someone who has figured out how to re-cable those mirrors, let us know.
Hi, thanks for watching and reaching out. On this car, the blue and white wires are the 110 volt wires (2 sets, one for each opera lamp), the blue is the “hot” and the white is the “neutral”. The brown wire is the 12 volt ground and the black wire is the 12 volt “hot”.
Ha! Remember, it’s not the volts, it’s the amps that will kill you. This whole set up is barely a couple of amps, but it will sting like putting your tongue on a 9 volt battery (don’t do THAT either!). I replied to your earlier question above. Getting your opera lights to work seems like a small thing, but it sure makes the car look complete when it’s done. Thanks for watching.
@@westofthelakecadillacclub GREATLY APPRECIATE both responses!! I’m going to get it going next week & order that part you post!! Thanks for making this video 🙏🏾
Hi, thanks for watching and reaching out. First thing to check is if the interior lights work with the doors closed. You do that by turning the headlight knob counterclockwise until it clicks. That activates the interior lights. If they work, your issue is with the light switch in the door frame. If they don’t work, you need to start checking at the fuse box and work your way out. Electrical issues are tricky, it can be anything from a blown fuse to a bad lamp. I’ve even seen all the lamps go out. A little patience and a 12 volt test light will help you solve the issue. Please let us know how it turns out!
looks like your c clip actually lock in to the shaft i front of the plate-----my plat has a like a big collar on it about a 6 point so my c clip must go on to the upper shaft but can't be cause the upper shaft just comes out=recently bought the car ,no keys
I have a 1976 Cadillac Seville with bucket seats where the passenger side power seat works but the driver's side six way power seat doesn't work. It clicks when I operate the switch, but the motor will not move. The courtesy lights at night dim when I attempt to operate the power seat switch. I tried spraying penetrating oil on all four bolts and nuts I could see under the seat. It started to work intermittently. But, after spraying the front bolts and nuts which were rusty, it stopped working. The ground wire with the round end that is supposed to bolt on to the floor I couldn't find. Does this sound like a motor problem or relay problem? Or just a ground problem? Sincerely Yours, Duane Wong Somerset, PA.
Hi Duane, thanks for watching and getting in touch. I’ve never worked on a Seville of any type, although I think they are all beautiful classics. The power seats are all relatively the same. Spraying the mounting bolts and seeing a change in operation is leading me to a possible grounding issue. It’s possible the ground wire was hanging by a thread and is now separated completely. Easiest test is using a jumper ground screwed to the nearest mounting bolt for the motor and securing the other end to a body ground. If the seat moves, it a ground issue. If not, check all the connectors on the motor, relay and transmission. If those are tight, you’ve got to start at square one and pull the seat out of the car to test all the components. Let us know how it goes.
75 cadilac steering wheel c clip will not go on the plate so does the c clip go on after you have put pressure on the the c goes into the upper shaft ????
finally getting back to putting steering back on ,had to make a special tool to compress the spring, but it does'nt seem to compress the spring enough to get t C clip ---so back to watching the video cant do the part where you ,reverse the puller.when i screw that piece in to the upper shaft then try to put pressure on it ,it just pulls the upper shaft out ,when i put on pressure ,the metal plate plus the part with of the collar where the c clip goes behind it moves with plate-,so do i need to remove the plate then try and put pressure on ,you sent me some literature ,the c clip has to go between the plate an the shoulder --cant seem to sepperate the two, thanks good video going to watch again
Yeah, the video could be a little clearer. Get a bolt that has the same thread as the locking ring that screws into the center of the hub (the big disc with the slots and the threaded bolt on the end). Tighten that so it acts like the telescoping lock is in place (but without the big disc getting in the way) and it will keep the column from pulling out. Good luck.
@@westofthelakecadillacclub ill try that ,so do you screw in the new bolt all the way down to the pin and that lock the upper part fromt coming out thanls
Yes, that can be done. You will need to measure the size of the belt that you will need because it will not be listed as a part number AC was standard on all of those cars.
Why did GM design such junk (bumper fillers) for beautiful luxury cars? Manufacturers love affair with plastic body parts (and vinyl tops) is complete BS!!
Thinking of your videos today, as I am going after teh filler panels soon. I bought the paint yesterday and soaked the rear bumper bolts, but that front eldorado bumper ? I bought the official manual today. Tomorrow is working on the horn pad....it's shorting out which explains why the horns were disconnected, lol.
The horn trouble is likely a broken contact retainer. Check out my ignition cylinder replacement video, then search for a Corvette retainer for tilt wheel, it is the same as the Cadillac.
No, they are regular incandescent bulbs. Start with testing the bulbs, the check for power in the socket. Everything in those is pretty straightforward. Thanks for reaching out!
Good to know rednecks get it done ! LOL. Got my 77 Eldo home yesterday, and she needs the filler extensions, but first the bumpers have to come off and Johnnie told me, you might want to get some help taking the bumpers off. Jack one, Jack two. Most things work on the car like sunroof, windows, lights, turn signals, high beams auto dimming, but I know clock, horn, radio, antenna do not. Onwards !
Aldo made it home today, but needs wipers (and fender filler extensions), in the rain, in the construction zone, with old wiper blades. Last inspected in 2002. 22 years sitting ?
I'm having bad parking issues. Every time I put the car on park, it doesn't take the park and the car keeps moving, especially in. Steep places and I don't know what I need to replace it specifically in the car for that to work again can you guys make a video on this and for Electrical problems
Hi Isaac: You could have one of two problems. First, check the adjustment of your shift linkage; your shift lever may seem like it is in PARK, but it may not be fully engaging. Second, you may have a broken or missing PARK pin on the transmission. Either way, if you aren't handy mechanically, a good transmission shop should be able to figure it out quickly. Thanks for watching and reaching out.
I own a 1977 Eldorado Biarritz, And I'm having trouble with the car when it comes to power. Or electricity? Every time I park the car I take off the wiring for the battery. And I don't know how to fix that because if I leave the battery on the car, it drains the power and I don't know how to fix that
Hi Isaac: That is one of the hardest issues to chase down. You could have any of a dozen different problems from something as simple as the trunk light staying on because it isn't adjusted correctly to some electrical motor that is always running due to some other issue. You really need to start checking every electrical component one at a time. If nothing obvious pops out, you'll need a multi-meter and start reading amp draws one fuse at a time until you find the circuit that is draining. It is a hard job and requires patience and skill. The good news is that there are very few computers or microprocessors that can trick you. Everything on that car is relatively straight forward. If you don't have that skill level, you'll need to find someone with automotive electrical skills. Household electric is completely different, so a regular electrician won't be of much help. Best of luck, that is a tough problem to solve.
Gorgeus cars, sadly modern day cadillacs are overpriced plastics. Those era cars were the top of the industry's luxury and opulence, Rolls Royces of that time never had that level of detail and tech.
Those opera lights are electroluminescent strips and are not available as new car parts. You can find the on junkyard cars. I’ve seen a few people make them out of rolls of electroluminescent tape, but I’ve never tried it. Others use LED strip tape, but I think they look terrible. Wish I had better options for you. Thanks for watching.
A contemporary road test of this against the '58 Imperial and Lincoln found that the Cadillac front seat was the least comfortable because the road testers found the front seat cushion was too short. An aunt of mine back then had the '57 Sixty Special and I loved it as a child. What's your opinion on that seat cushion? I love the placement of the a/c vents on these cars. My preference for whatever reason has always been the '59 and '60 Eldorado Broughams, partially because of that amazing windshield. Thanks so much for the video!
I’ve never been in a ‘58 Imperial or Lincoln. These aren’t my cars, I was just lucky enough to be invited to film them by the owners. Can you just imagine what it must have been like, rolling up to the country club in one of those, wearing a fancy suit and hat. I can’t imagine anything built today have that kind of style and class. I recently got to test a Porsche Taycan sedan and that’s pretty close by today’s standards.
@@westofthelakecadillacclub Seeing the hard seat in my current SUV, I would love to be able to luxuriate in the cars out in the early seventies when I learned to drive. When a Porsche meant the original 911!
CLC 3950 did the bezels come from AccuTrim out of Utah.. Installing on my 75.. there is a molded raised edge on the outside quarter panel top on the filler.. did you sand it down?
I saw some on ebay and there is a guy named George in Florida that has a cadillac parts business. I found him when looking for AM FM 8 Track Cb Radio set up or something like that. My car came with fiberglass panels in the trunk to be installed.
@@DanTheManIOM George in Florida is a great guy. If he can’t find what you need, it’s probably not available. If you get George on the phone, LISTEN to him and you will learn more about Cadillacs and life than a master’s degree will teach you.
what a great video. There are soo very very few videos on RU-vid providing ways to get your broken opera lights working on these 1980's Cadillacs. I'm sure this procedure will apply to the downsized 1985 front wheel drive C body Cadillacs too?
