- "Well, The Nel," said the doctor. "I can't quite diagnose your case. I think it must be the drink. Too much Guinness" - "Sure, that's all right, doc," I said. "I know how you feel. I'll come back when you're sober." ^_^
The Irish IRA were soundly defeated by the British now you have MI5 agents running the Irish Garda force. Shin fain sold out there Catholic roots shame on them
2023.. back at home ! Alas, Ireland unfree shall never be at peace ! 2023 ! time for an Irish unity referendum (let's UK collapse !). Let the daughters and sons of Ireland live together, in peace and love !
Why would he, after everything, eventually turn his gun back on his comrades and fight for the British? Even the greatest wills can be broken it seems.
Its not religion, its national liberation, there are catholics who collaborate with the imperialist british empire and there are anglicans who fought against the british. Its just that catholics are more likely to be pro independence where as anglicans are more likely to be pro-british due to anglicanism being a religion pushed upon the irish people by the british with it putting the king at the head of the church.
From the early stages of the Civil War the Brits gave cannons and ammunition to the Freestaters, to be used against their former comrades. Besides that, sided with the Pro-Treaty or Freestaters were Right Wing s-c-u-m like O'Duffy (later to become overtly f.a.s.c.i.s.t) or the likes of O'Higgins and the ones responsible of executing Republican prisoners tied with land mines. ( en. wikipedia. org / wiki / Executions_during_the_Irish_Civil_War ). Collins had said (after being forced to sign the Treaty) that it was "a stepping stone" to get the North also free into the Republic, but we can never know if he really intended to fight for it or not. At least he tried it in the early stages after the Treaty was signed, with his Anti-Partition stance. ( Read 'Partition at 100: IRA's Northern Offensive of May 1922 was doomed to disastrous failure ' article in the Irish News, or 'Michael Collins' unfinished revolution ' and the more recent 'The tragedy of Michael Collins' articles in An Phoblacht / Republican News).
WOW Thanks for posting. This brought back memories of a wonderful night. I was at this concert in the Olympia theatre, Dublin in 1993. Believe it or not I paid for a ticket at the door of the theatre. There were spare tickets on the night. As I walked in Kris Kristofferson was playing as a support act. Johnny Cash had the place rocking that night.
Michael Collins, 🇮🇪 He is a hero in Irish History and Ireland forever!! Inspiration and one of my heros as well!! 100 years ago today! 🕯️RIP, Lad! Faugh A Ballagh!!!
La canzone è strepitosa, ma il film di più: è lo splendido "Il Nemico Alle Porte" di J. J. Annaud, con Jude Law e Ed Harris, sull'assedio di Stalingrado.
The fact that all covers copy Luke Kelly's phrasing of the third verse just proves that Luke is the gold standard, because it should actually be: I gave her gifts of the mind I gave the secret sign that's KNOWN To the artists WHO have known the TRUE Gods of sound and STONE
