Thank you for joining me here on this RU-vid channel. These are supplimental videos to my Learn To Fly courses using a flight simulator on Udemy.com and Skillshare.com
Students ask for extra things in the courses and I make them and add there here on this RU-vid channel.
Everything up to now (August 2020) has been recorded using FSX or Xplane 11 using FRAPs or OBS studio.
Starting the end of August, most videos will be recorded with the new Flight Simulator, or as some call it: FS2020.
Please leave comments and suggestion and I will get on it.

Your start process is all wrong. You need 1.Fuel 2.Air 3. Spark 1. external battery on. position lights on 2. left and right tank set (fuel) and boost pumps on to start 3. Cowl flaps open (air) 4. Propeller condition levers fully forward, 5. Throttle open 1inch or 15% 6. Red Mixture Condition levers off or back 7. Master ignition switch on (pushed in) Energize switch ON to right engine FIRST as when started drives battery (down) count to 8-10 (props turn to make sure there is no hydraulic lock in the cylinder). 8. Mesh switch to right engine (down) 9.Right magneto switch fully turn on.(spark) 10. Right prime switch on (fuel). Note: When you hit the prime switch for either engine on startup the red mixture condition lever automatically moves to Auto rich. 11. Ground power Off, 12. Inverter switch On. 13. Battery switch On. Rinse and repeat for Left. NOTE: You dont have to keep repeat pushing the prime switch, that is incorrect, just do it once after magneto on step 10. If you havent got fuel, air, or spark set, it wont start. duckworks mod start is slightly different

Of course you mean - 'Für der Learn to fly'. But I didn't find any German content in the entire video!😅 Ive had this GA for just over a week now, and it is astounding. Ive just completed a Casablanca - Madeira flight to test the long range max fuel without wing tanks performance. After allowing for unusable/45m reserve/5% contingency I ended up with 10m extra fuel on board. Amazing, when you consider the winds aloft were close to Simbrief's planner info.

Hi Howard. I have a fully decked out Velocity flight panel, 8 x FIP's, Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo yoke and throttle, 2 radio panels. But I have grown so tired of it. It takes up so much space and my neck aches from looking over it. My monitor has to be set so far back. I'm going to tear it all down and buy one of these.
@howardforder4481
@howardforder4481 7 месяцев назад
Hi Paul, I had a Velocity Panel like yours. I sold the whole thing, still assembled for $2000. It is still in demand for those who want a panel in front of them. I still have my FlightsimBuilder G1000 units on my main sim PC. I bought an Alienware gaming laptop and installed the sim and use it exclusively with the Yawman Arrow.

Why is the trim wheel on the left, instead of the right? Why isn’t it wireless? Why go with a hat on the right, instead of a second stick which could also act as a hat?
@ForderLearnToFly
@ForderLearnToFly 8 месяцев назад
Hi Roland. I didn't design it; just showed it on my twitch stream with the devs. But in my testing (I am a pilot IRL), I found that I got used to it. In fact, you see me reach over with my thumb and adjust trim while my left thumb kept the attitude until trimmed out. Now with helicopters, I use the D pad up and down to adjust trim as it isn't a trim wheel in a helicopter (there is no elevator). The developers will read your comments here on this YT video, so keep the questions coming. Thanks for taking the time to reply with your questions or comments.

@@ForderLearnToFly - we shouldn’t have to reach over for trim control. I know you didn’t design it, & was hoping the Yawman folks would read the comments. Thanks for posting the stream!
@JonOstrower
@JonOstrower 8 месяцев назад
@@RolandDobbins Hi Roland, we do! We talk about it in the video around the 28 min mark. Short version is that space is at a premium and prioritizing throttle control on the right side was the priority. Also, ergonomically it matches how you fly a real C172. Your hand has to come off the throttle to adjust the trim. We've also created profiles to put trim control in the hat switch to match an electric trim control found on 172s and big Boeing airliners. Thanks for your interest!

Hello. I am not quite sure of your question. After an IFR flight, normal shutdown of the airplane like any other flight. Either the tower will offer to close your flightplan or you would call FSS on the phone to close it. (In real life). If you have an IFR flight plan in the simulator, were you using PilotEdge? Or Vatsim? Then you would work with them. Happy Flying!

I was going over the Cessna 172S Checklist, and noticed in the BEFORE STARTING ENGINE section there is no entry to turn on the Beacon Light. The entry is actually (11.Navigation Lights and Flashing Beacon - ON as required), after the engine is started. I have always been taught to turn on the Beacon before Engine start to notify everyone that startup will be taking place.

Howard, I really enjoyed your video. I worked as an engine mechanic on them a George AFB and Shaw AFB until they were retired. It was an awesome plane to work on. I spent many hours in the cockpit and test cell running engines. And, I was lucky enough to log a few hours in the rear seat during a TDY. I did get a giggle out of the cup holder, when I worked them it was a relief tube. Also, the EGT gauges would rise in relation to throttle position, the fuel control would limit fuel flow to keep EGT and RPM within limits. Thanks again, my Christmas gift this year is Flight Simulator and the first thing I'm going to do is get this download and do what I dreamed of all those years ago GO FLYING IT.

@ForderLearnToFly
@ForderLearnToFly 8 месяцев назад
Hi JonathanDavis, Thank you for your kind words. Sorry about the jump to running it. I simply plugged all USB cables into a powered USB 12 port hub. The kind you find on Amazon. That Hub plugs into a blue USB port on the back of the PC. It may very well be that there isn't enough juice without a hub to power the FIPs. Also, once you are in the sim and in the plane of choice, you should see the gauges power up to what they are supposed to be. Good luck and let me know how it goes (here or my discord or my twitch channel)

Interesting thing is that POH for this Comanche which I was able to find on one Comanche owners website (they are working hard on maintaining all the manufacturer materials available and current) is quite short. And there is an introductory material called "Comanche Flight Training Manual" which goes deep into the systems and everything else. I am sure it is not including comprehensive full guide on the engine from Lycoming but it is good to remember that this older then 1970-ish airplanes have quite interesting short and even sometimes unconventional POH's. It is great that A2A have this awesome manual. For my personal orientation and "endorsement" I would say this video, manual and a few other sources would be enough to start flying this great plane.
@darth_patzer
@darth_patzer 10 месяцев назад
Hello, what I think is that the plane is nicely done in the game but, for me, it's not a very interesting plane because the plane itself has nothing special. I mean the Beechcraft D18S, the Beaver, the Wilga, etc. are interesting planes because it's a challenge to fly with them. The Comanche is only done to go from a asphalte runway to another asphalte runway without surprises. What you have to do on the ground can be interesting but what you do in the air is not. Easy to take take off, easy to fly and easy to land.
@ForderLearnToFly
@ForderLearnToFly 10 месяцев назад
I agree with you darth. I love flying the beaver, Beech 18, and of course, the Wilga in STOL competitions. As a pilot in real life, the reason we are so enthusiastic about a product like the Comanche is its realism to real flying. To be able to do the walkaround, the failures, the realism in flight means we can practice real-world scenarios and know that it is close to the behavior of the real thing. Not everyone would care about that, so it might not be an outstanding choice for an airplane. A2A has always been known as quality airplane makers for many versions of flight simulators. They didn't disappoint here either. Let me know what other airplanes you wish for me to deep dive into, and I will work on that.

Presently I’ve got a three quadrant set up. The first two for throttle, prop and mixture for a twin engined aircraft, the third for gear, flaps and parking break. No problem with the Big Radials Goose I’ve been flying but the condition levers for the Bronco just will not respond to any binding I can find. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks again. How do you set you view in msfs 2020 so that you get rid of the instrument panel but still a view from the seat without feeling like you’re sitting on the engine. The zoomed in cockpit view in msfs doesn’t seem to yield the result you’re getting in this video?
@ForderLearnToFly
@ForderLearnToFly 11 месяцев назад
There is one view in sim that shows the top of the panel and the view outside. What you see here is a simple right-click of the mouse and adjust the view to move the sim cockpit down, out of the way. Now, with a product like Parallel 42 Flow, you can make custom views. That would be a more persistent view for every powerup.
@Marcperron007
@Marcperron007 11 месяцев назад
Thank you for that prompt reply. Unfortunetly I can't get the same result. Are you in X PLane in the video? Msfs gives me a zoomed In view sure but then the compas and the prop and everytrhing else is way too big. I am looking for a view where you see above the panel but it still feels like you are in the seat. If you are indeed in MSfS coud you please give the details of how you do it. @@ForderLearnToFly

A viable option would be to mount the FIPS and other real instruments at a height that blocks the virtual instruments in the view? It is actually what your panel does but the sim view is still above the virtual instruments and looks very realistics.

Can the Comanche instruments be popped out? I see the mouse become active when I hover over them but nothing occurs when I click.
@ForderLearnToFly
@ForderLearnToFly 10 месяцев назад
Sorry for the late reply Kirk. The answer is yes, you can pop out the glass tablet like other glass displays such as the 530 or the G1000. Just press your right-ALT key and click with your mouse. It will pop out to a screen you can move to another monitor, or your dedicated hardware of the same. We do this with the 530 or G1000 if you have the hardware in your home cockpit. I see that it shows a hand icon when hovering over the steam gauges, but nothing happens with trying to pop them out.
