Hello! I'm a professional photographer from the US and Germany. In 2020 I relocated from Tulsa, Oklahoma in the United States to North Ayrshire in Scotland with my infant twins, two cats, and ex wife. I just came back from Scotland would love to move there, it was very frustrating to experience how much cheaper the groceries are compared to NY/US. I did not notice the trash. We travelled around the country. Highlands, west and east coast
For a complete picture comparison wise, I'd like to hear also how relocating to the UK affected your income. I've explored repatriating there and the salaries I've been quoted for the same skillset and level of experience are like 50-70% of what I make in the US. Cheaper prices in absolute terms don't do much for you if the costs represent the same or higher percentage of your income.
One thing to consider about the UK and Scotland in general. If you are on the west coast the weather will be a LOT more rainier and shitter in general. As for rubbish. In regards to Scotland that really depends on the place and city. It really does.
I was shocked at how easy the test was in the US, I got my parellel park wrong and passed, which is an instant fail in the UK, I thought the instructor was high when he passed me O_O I moved from Scotland to WA, USA and couldn't believe it.
So how much does weed cost in Scotland? Asking for a friend. Also, how does your salary in the UK compare to the US and how did you manage to get a job in Scotland?
As far as I remember Canada actually has more guns per head of population than USA. Guns in Canada are mainly for hunting. Gun deaths in Canada are way below that of USA which suggests what you have is a cultural problem and gun control problem.
Hey from Newcastle, Oklahoma here. Just recently started researching moving to Scotland. I have to say though that I couldn't disagree more with this video. The CDC's numbers are completely wrong as they are anti gun partisans, as I'm sure you are as well. I'm a 36 year old army veteran. Didn't get interested in guns until after I got out, but now I'd say I'm an enthusiast and 2nd amendment advocate. I grew up pretty much on the south side of OKC and never once felt in danger or feared for my life. Even before I became a gun enthusiast. Don't believe what the legacy media tells you. The main reason I'd move to Scotland is the beauty, and for motorcycling. I don't think I could give up on the second amendment though.
"Never have to worry about my kids being shot in school". Really? Dunblane? No-one stoped him because no good people in the school were armed. Sorry your perspective seems odd. When I see someone in a restaurant with a sidearm I feel safe not scared. Why would you cut a lunch date short for that. You prefer only guns hidden by bad people with no one around capable to stop them?
This Is a bunch of shite. Violent crime in the UK is through the roof. Loads of things like stabbings and shootings aren't reported. People cannot defend themselves properly in their homes as the laws are horrific. If you break the 40k gun deaths down in the UK then you'll find it that there is more to what you are talking about. The CDC even say that up to 500k lives are saved by defensive use of firearms in the USA. Gun free zones are horrible, why would you want to not protect your children properly. Safety is far better in the USA in open carry states. Check out Colion Noir, he explains absolutely everything in series of videos debunking all the Anti Gun rhetoric.
You’ve got it wrong on public transportation. Chicago, Boston, Washington, DC, San Francisco, and Madison, WI are all cities where you can live car-free. I’m certain there are others.
Hi Peter, cracking pics!. Since winter is approaching it would be a good idea to change out the other headlight bulb and also the spark plugs and put some Wynns Fuel Injector cleaner just to give your motor a bit of TLC.
So greetings should not be "Erin go Bragh"? Rubbish not collected is a sign of low morals. Tap water quality depends on where you live. Mine is high in magnesium, healthy for you. Mine is well water. Taxes are fungible. I cry every time I drive. I drive extra miles to see the beauty. The Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains are so breathtaking to view. It drives you into tears. We had milk men and green grocers 55 or so years ago. Where I live, there is very little crime. America is a big place. Equating crime in your American city to all of America is like equating the violent crime, knife murders and grooming gangs to all of the UK! Scotland is part of the UK, right? Erin go Bragh! Lol!😅😅
100% agree about the rubbish. It was a shock and disappointing after living overseas to see a lot of rubbish around. As you say, often see overflowing bins. I really wish we could sort this out.
Funny to hear him complaining about rubbish while walking through a prestige looking woodland. Living on the west coast, the rubbish in his garden could be blown in from the sea having come over from the states.
We left Scotland in 1973 when I was 4,now 50 years later my wife and I are selling everything in Canada and moving to Scotland in April of 2025❤man I hope I can find work 😮
America just had another tragic school shooting this week. Safety is definitely a reason why I want to move me and my little one away. It's a heartbreaking reality. It's too easy for kids to get a hold of firearms here.
3 weeks rubbish collection is not normal for the UK. Where I live (Greater London) it's weekly for rubbish and recycling and is the same for everyone I know living in different councils. I have heard it's every fortnight in some areas where the council's had to make savings, but I've never heard of only every 3 weeks - that's unacceptable. To say that is typical of the UK is untrue.
@@Alley00Cat See the little yellow thing at the end of my post? I know it was a joke, as was my ironic response, being English when he was talking about the Scots. Sorry, I forgot Americans don't do irony very well. I don't need to watch more American standup, because it's not very good. Lighten up! 🙂
I live in Oregon, and we have pretty good tap water, provided the building is new enough to not have lead pipes. For other items, yeah, the trash would be a surprise...
The language spoken in Scotland is mostly Scottish English or Scots or more often a mix of the two, Scots alsohas its own dialects.. Scottish Gaelic is also spoken but not as frequently. These are all the official languages of Scotland.
I live in Massachusetts. My tap water is perfectly drinkable and tastes fine. I’m pleased to say that in my state people don’t walk around with exposed guns, assault rifles are banned and I feel safe-ish. I do love a little visit to England and Scotland though.
My husband and I from Jenks Oklahoma (sub of tulsa as well) are wanting to move to Scottland.//// we have three young children and i have been following all your videos and getting as much information as possible and i want to thank you so much!!! is there a way to contact you directly for more direct questions ?
The mental toll here in America from working a lot with little pto to take breaks is terrible. You hoard pto and try your best to push through times when you need to rest. If for example I want to take one two week vacation in Europe a year, I gotta push through all the holidays, just to make it work.
Hi, I'm enjoying this video, but I have to speak up. I don't know where you are from in the US but no, the majority of the tap water is not "dark and smells like mold". Our tap water is not perfect, we probably have more chemicals in it but absolutely is not how you described.
Thanks for these videos. I see so many videos about how bad the UK is and how much better the US is. It is nice to see an American up the UK and Scotland! Hope you’ve been made to feel welcome
I've never heard anyone say Alright ! I live on the East coast, so maybe that's the reason, I guess language evolves. We generally say 'how are you' or 'how are you doing' The reply would be 'Fine thanks'
Petrol pump nozzle will fit in a diesel intake but diesel pump nozzle will not fit in a petrol intake. So it’s really only diesel vehicle owners who can be caught out.
