Lovely work and great use of mirrors! Your two master shots especially are excellent. I feel the lady’s closeup doesn’t work too well as the key feels sourcey and too different from the wide. Having the hard light on her body more dominant and softening/decreasing the key would have solved this I reckon. But I know, talking in hindsight is always easier than in the pressure of the actual moment. So keep it up!

i love these breakdowns. great job. one ask is - can you hold on the BTS on what you're talking about more vs cutting back to your talking head so viewers can process the fixture or setup you're talking about? Even if it's just a freeze frame. Great job again! and thanks so much

I noticed that you are filming on G master. How does it compare to cinema lenses in terms of optics quality? I use DZO lenses and some other and i do not see any difference here on youtube to be honest. I'm just tired of focusing without first AC and thinking about switching to autofocus.

Mirror advice is super helpful. I used to shoot directly into the windows from my balcony - so the distance between the light and window was around 50cm. Gonna try the mirrors next time.

What would you recommend as a minimum for a faking the sunlight in a studio room about 30 square meters and a balcony. Is 300w will be enough for such an upstage light and ability to fill the room (white walls) with some ambience from bouncing the light from the floor/furniture? Or for such scenarios without adding ambient level from the inside of the room it is better to go for something like 600-1200 watt?
@braunov
@braunov 15 дней назад
300W Aputure or Arri 300W tungs light. Usually 600w light start to be useful outside to mimic any daylight scenario but also depends on weather outside. If you will do it at night it might be better with 600W but also to recreate pure daylight with all the different bouncing it can be slighly different approach. But you can start with 600w at night or cloudy weather.
@antonzavarzin7208
@antonzavarzin7208 15 дней назад
@@braunov Got it. There is not a big price gap between 300w and 500/600w nowdays so I’m so then I'll most likely buy 600w because for half a year outside my window it's winter and cloudy weather. I'll be giving myself sun therapy even without filming lol

What is your opinion on going for tungsten lights for beginners? I bought two Arri 2k fresnels for $200 each and also some 2000w open face lights for much cheaper. Much brightness for the money, but to gel it to daylight wastes so much output. I was thinking that apart from night time use I could use them inside during the day for sunset/sunrise look. What do you think?
@braunov
@braunov 15 дней назад
2K Tungs Arri it's good stuff. I used it a lot back in the days. It has more accurate warm quality.For some cases can be cheaper then LED. I'm not recommended gel them it doesn't make any sense but if you want to have daylight temp you can do this. You can still shooting in the middle of the day just block out window and create a tent with some distance from the window then you can put 2K there I will suggest couple of them for each window or also couple of them to one window if it's large. Next step is bounce them from muslin or white ultrabounce inside the tent and you can get super nice sunrise sunset look from inside the room. And if you want to have white light like basic daylight 5500K then just chance you white balance in the camera and your tungs become daylight. But make sure you don't have any other light with 5500 native temp.

Wow. Watched all videos today. Find some trickes that i haven't seen from other popular filmmakers on youtube. I have some question. 1) How convinient to use metal light stand for grip litle frost frames / tubes / small lights. I am shooting 99% at home and i have only 1 C-stand. I understand that you also only have one. Is it enough for you to have regular metal light stand for everything else? 2) What king of foam board do you use in front of fresnel lens. Is it plexiglass?
@braunov
@braunov 2 месяца назад
Hi, thanks for your comment. 1) The more C-Stands you have the better. I have several of them I just show how to do it in the budget way. C-Stands usually using for Flags,Board,Control light equipment. If you don't have money for bigger proper light stand then you can use more cheaper ones or using C-Stands. 2) Foam board I bought in Home depot ( you can buy white or black ) Also in Dollarama you can find something similar too. Amazon same foam board many different variations.
