Gli ultimi anni di un Pavarotti straordinario. Una Horne al massimo e una Sutherland non sfruttata dal repertorio scelto con poche abilità. Un trio meraviglioso oggi impensabile

I love this video. There's nothing like Joan and Luciano belting out that ending three times over the decades and in rabid secession. People can't fly, but Joan and Luciano could soar .....and take one for the ride. Thank you!

Great Otello duet. I rate Pavarotti's 1991 recording of Otello with his Idomeneo as his most committed performance on disc. And he was a superb Otello, totally idiomatic and convincing.

That 82 performance was her triumphant return to the Met and by God she killed it. The Met audience had been deprived of Joan for some years and of course went nuts when she showed them she still had it....and how! Thank you.

Superbly edited, your series of videos weaving together Joan' s performancs over the years are amazing and very moving. How Joan stood the test of time! Incredible. Thank you!

It's interesting that when you listen to the diction of all three, Pavarotti has the clearest. The chiaroscuro is in my opinion the reason. Sutherland and Horne use mask placement and lack brilliance, squillo, and clean clear pure Italian vowels.

I'm surprised they had to use the score on the Norma selection. Perhaps the trio because I don't think Pavarotti had sung Pollione except in recordings.

At 34:59 Pavarotti looks across at Sutherland and thinks " 'Struth, I better pull me socks up here!!!" Then almost misses his cue. (Just joking - truly the concert of the Century, Olympian gods on high at 36:39, and that's why we go to opera!)

It is said that Bonynge advised his wife never to sing Puccini, why?
@wotan10950
@wotan10950 Год назад
Puccini sounds easy because it's so melodic. But it can take a toll on the voice because the orchestra doubles the vocal line. So it can be hard to project over the orchestra. And anyway, Bonynge's great love was bel canto and French romanticism. There were lots of great Puccini singers, but very few great bel canto singers, and he was determined that she remain at the top. P.S. She DID sing Puccini later in her career: Suor Angelica in the theater and recording; Turandot (recording only)
