hiii! thanks for the video! i'm here trying to get the pattern: just started and didnt understand how to go on after picking up sts for back&shoulder saddle? cuz my working yarn now is between 11sts (from the neckband) and 69 sts (from along the neckband) ://// could you help me out here?
Wow so you just motivated me ten fold to cast the porcelain on 😂 or maybe the terracotta from the same designer 😊 I’ve got a question: how did you find the colorwork on the purl side? I think that’s what intimidates me the most 😅
@@madebymollymoon wow!! That made my day thank you 💕 and tbh the hardest part is literally just taking the first step. I got so worked up about how hard it was without even trying to do it and as soon as I started I was shocked with how easily I caught on!! The hardest part of the pile side color work is just making sure your balls don’t get tangled 😅
@@juliagruber9646 THANK YOU!! 💕💕💕✨ I made a size medium, after blocking it gives that drapey sweater look I was going for! And the sleeves are too long 😌
Okay, this sweater is what made me want to start knitting! I just finished my first sweater (the step-by-step sweater), and now I know most of the essentials and German short rows, but I am soo intimidated by stranded colorwork!! Do you have any tips for learning how to do colorwork?
@@edennielson7183 the hardest part is probably all in your head!! Stranded color work (for me) is literally the same exact this are one color sweater except you have 2 balls of yarn to manage. Just take it one step at a time and you will def surprise yourself! I know I was shocked how quickly I picked it up (after watching some videos too)
You are adorable. No worries, I can be yer grandma :-) what an awesome sweater !! Congrats !! Sorry about your needle lol funny, though, had to giggle .
This just convinced me to knit the Porcelain sweater next. It’s in my queue with dozens of other sweaters, and I wanted to do a colorwork one next. And I want it to be cool. Not an old lady sweater even tho I am one across the Bay from you. My son is a roller blader/ free ride skier/ cliff diver. I’m going to show him your video to convince him that knitting can be cool, too. I’m currently making Sandnes Garn Guernsey Genser for him. The Porcelain sweater for me is next. Your video made me smile! Thanks!
Knitting IS cool! you just made my day- thank you for the note, and a nod to you from across the Bay ☺ maybe your son and I have crossed paths in the snow somewhere around the world
Hi! I know I'm late but thought I'd chime in in case no one else has told you this before - 1x1 ribbing often looks sort of messy like that. A way around it is to do half-twisted 1x1 rib: When working in the round, alternate knit and purl like you typically would, but knit every knit stitch through the back loop instead of the front loop (purls are normal). If you're working flat, you'll alternate rows with RS: *k1tbl, p1* and WS: *p1tbl, k1*. I hardly ever knit a normal 1x1 rib anymore because this just looks so much cleaner for basically the same effort :)
friend, you are so right! unfortuntely I am not redoing the ribbing on this sweater BUT I just started a new project that calls for a twisted rib and holy cow I am never going back!!! amazing tip- thank you for the comment!! 🤩
I’m working on this pattern right now and I’m very confused on the first row, I don’t understand how to purl cast on with backwards loop cast on, I’m wondering if you could help clear this up?
Hey! I find this video really helpful for backwards loop cast on! I think it is the same knit-wise and purl-wise :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9bufF8e24JY.html. Let me know if this helps!
As someone who cannot knit - even without a concussion - I rate this video 5 lustrous pearls! One for Skill. One for Courage. One for Joy. One for Humility. One for a dang stylin’ top that, through the artistry of the maker, is transformed from Sol to Soul. In recovering from your injury you have indeed, in the words of the Bard, turned the winter of your discontent to glorious summer! Bravo, bravo, and again, bravo!
WOW thank you so much!!! <3 🥲 I ended up using the same yarn that the pattern suggested- I really like how it blocked but I do still find it a little itchy
Another thrilling and inspiring DIY video with the most dangerous set of bloopers I have witnessed. From yarn to plywood, the breadth of creative talent infused with “seize the day” attitude, outlook and energy conveys a joy, can-do vision and optimism sorely lacking in our world. The expert editing and music choices from the Silver Cat Studios’ Team embued the video with a raw charm that was “right on target”! Bravo and thank you!
I’m about to start the belt-situation now😂 Hope it’ll work! Edit: I noticed there’s probably a faulty translation. The strap needs to be attached on the right (not the left!) side of the body (in my German version it’s correct: it literally says “on the right side of the main body” in German, and I guess the Danish/Norwegian version says the same). In the English version they probably mistranslated the part where it says “on the right side of the body” as “right next to the body.” And the “left needle” is indeed the one you will be holding in your left hand once you pick up the whole thing from the table to start knitting on it. Lying flat on the table it may look like the right-side needle. So you did everything correctly, but would have just to attach the belt on the exact other side. 😉 but as we see it worked out very nice in the end either way! Just wanted to add my remark for future knitters encountering this problem.
@@a.friedrichs267 wow!!! I am very impressed you figured this out. You should put these comments on ravelry too so others can see!!! This would have helped me so much if I would have known!!!
Super helpful video! But you might want to try knitting through the back loops when you're doing the ribbing. It transformed mine from being really uneven and messy to pretty much perfect 😊
Thank you! 💗 she LOVED it- and there was no decreasing at all in the neckline! super easy 1x1 rib stitch, you do use smaller needles so that helps with making it knit up tighter!! 🤠
Is there anything more relatable among knitters than loved ones who despite their best efforts cannot find anymore fs to give when we start blabbering on and on about knitting. God bless them
I’ve never done color work and I’ve been thinking about doing the porcelain sweater as my first colorwork. I’m taking this as my sign! 🤩 You did a great job! 🫶
Ah yes!! So what I ended up doing was a M1L/M1R stitch set on each side of the sweater leaning away from each other with 1 knit stitch in between- under the underarm "seam" first row M1L and M1R twice for 4 increased stitches and the second row add two more! I hope that makes sense hahah🥲
yes! so you have two options, to make with German short rows or to make with shoulder seams (which is how it was done in the pic of the pattern) I did the German short rows bc it was less construction in the end- aka less sewing a lot of panels together. either one you chose, just ignore the instructions for the other method as you knit, unless it says "for both construction methods". for the shoulder seam method, you cut the yarn (make sure you leave a long tail), put the back panel down, cast on, and start knitting a whole new panel, and for the German short rows you will cut your yarn (always make sure you leave a long tail) and pick up and start knitting again at the top of your back panel near the neck along the left side.
@@madelinekathrene oooohhhh, so you don’t need to do both methods unless it says! So if I do German short rows I ignore the shoulder seam part? That makes so much more sense!
I found at ravelry.com! If this link doesn’t work, you can search “porcelain sweater” in the site search bar 😌 www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/porcelain-sweater-solo
You really put the 'wear' in *earthenware.* It really *shatters* my expectations of what a sweater can be! Talk about *fire* , that sweater is so hot, it must've been made in a kiln.
