I’m going to check out this record when I am in the mood for Swedish-style death metal. I really like the last record from a couple years ago; it was a very enjoyable fusion of Dismember, Intestine Baalism and Gatecreeper.
I find it kind of weird to me that someone would try and forsake this album because Trevor is gone, and the band had the nerve to move on without him. I think you are right when you said that he would probably want the band to move on, and as a result, we do get a great album that, while it might "playing it safe", still hits like a truck. And I personally will speak for myself that I am happy that the band has continued on in memory of Trevor. How much longer they intend to, or how many more records they're going to want to put out remain something of interest, but I'm just glad they didn't pack up their shit and head home. I would say, again personally, a 4/5 is right, but I won't disagree with the 3.5.
The doorbell rang 15 years ago some day. So i got up from the couch. At the door a lady friend and Daniel Håkansson. How and why are a whole different story. Learned of the band one year before at the female voices fest in belgium. From that moment on a fan for life. Great band. Great review also.
I enjoyed this record. Nothing groundbreaking or huge but hey it's just TBDM doing what they do. And they're still good at it, I say good on them especially after the loss that they (and frankly we all) faced. Good record, Asserting Dominion was my favorite on this, and RIP Trevor. \m/ Side note you talked about Linkin Park with their new singer and some of that backlash. I like the new singer tbh. Not Chester but she's a good fit if you ask me.
Honestly, it's a grower to me. Listening to it, nothing really gripped me in and it went by kind of quicker than I thought it would, which is totally fine! I think after a few more listens It will click with me a lot more. Also, If I see you at the show, I'll have to get you a drink!
9/10 for me. Incredible album. Been a fan since Unhallowed. 3.5 out of 5 is too low. Every time I click on one of your videos it’s always negative. Like do you enjoy anything?
1) I enjoy plenty of things, including this album. 3.5/5 is a positive score. I said the album was good and that I enjoyed it several times in the video. 2) If EVERY video you see of mine is 'always negative', then that tells me you're only tuning into the negative content. This month alone I've given out several scores 4/5 and some higher.
Not bad, but nothing great either.. VERYYY SAFE record, as some are pointing out.. It’s like 10 different variations of 1 track.. The standout is the lead guitar work, which is definitely stellar.. If they didn’t have such a reputable name, this would be just another album.. 2.5/5 for me
This album is an absolute Masterpiece. They nailed it! Perhaps you should dive deeper in the music and the lyrics. I think it can take some time to get the full power of this album.
Iam still so sad when I think about the fact that Trevor isn’t around anymore. Got to speak to him a couple of times for interviews and watched so much footage of him. He felt like a genuine nice person with such a big heart for (Death) Metal…
My history with TBDM isnt the same as a lot of peoples, i didnt really get into them super hard until i first heard Widowmaker when i threw Nightbringers on to check out. Remember listening to that and not even realizing it repeated back to the beginning until i had spun another half of it while i was out delivering pizzas. I'll forever be bummed out that i missed my chance to see them live with Trevor. It was during their Miasma anniversary tour, I got through Disentombed's set, and i just wasnt feeling well so I left early. I got into them super heavy a few months before Trevor passed, and youre right, it doesnt feel real still. Thought Aftermath was a great lead single, and i thought Brian did well vocally. Gonna go give this a spin now. good review as always, Cheers, man. RIP Trevor.
Idle Hands/Unto Others hooked me since their first demo on Bandcamp. Their sound just hits that sweet spot of what I like and have become my favorite band. My wife and I are beyond bummed that theyre off that tour and we are damn near selling our tickets or ARE selling our tickets because we've seen WASP already. Our main draw was Unto Others. Great interview you have a new subscriber in me.
I disagree. Grief is a creeper. It works it's way into your brain with multiple listens. I understand where your disappointment comes from but it's not the songs themselves, it's the mix of the album that is off for me. It sounds like it's mixed softer. The vocals should be a little more forward. The guitars and bass seem to blend (don't know if it was purposely) into one sound at times when the track would benefit from a more spatial mix. I love the album, not as much as Stranger Fruit or Self Titled. Just give it time to rattle around in your brain.
You're tall in that house lol, you look like you can touch the roof of the kitchen ceiling lol. I'm 5'5.. and short lol but you know what? We're all Metalheads despite age, height etc.. Black Dahila Murder is back at the office with a new album.. I miss Trevor and I have a Black Dahila Murder backpatch on my vest... It's from the album 'Nightbringers' Nightbringers and Ritual are my favorite albums from BDM and the Trevor Strnad era. 🤘 🎃
For me, it's not fair to compare this situation to that of Linkin Park. In that case....new singer situation aside, the original drummer chose not to return and the original guitarist has chosen not to tour. So you're dealing with 50% LP. Just saying. Anyway, RIP Trevor.
Great video. I would only disagree on one thing: Doug Walkers the Wall isn't hilariously bad. Its not "good bad" like movies like The Room or Samurai Cop nor like Corey Feldmans musical outputs -its painful cringe and I would never ever recommend anyone to watch it in its entirety. That would be like telling a friend to drink milk of which I know that its 2 years old, rotten and not white anymore but green. DW The Wall (both album and review) is nothing but a very painful and infiurating experience. Its just so bad - that its sinful, not enjoyable and downright despicable. That said great video and congrats on the fact, that the 5 year old younger you looks older then your 5 years older you. I salute you good Sir!
Eternal hails Trevor. Real shit, I haven’t spun a TBDM album since his passing, and I can’t really articulate why. This is a special band for me, and I suppose Trevor is/was a huge reason. Will definitely give this record a spin, but I’m conscious of my bias, and won’t go into it with high expectations. Hope to be pleasantly surprised!
