@Douglas Wfsx maybe something like this: this is lutecia, a typical provincial capital. In contemporary gallia there were larger cities, the reason why this city was selected was the ile the la vite, which allowed the crossing of the seine. Because it was far from the border there was no wall or large military presence.

Those olive oil pots that you see upon entering a home, actually stood on iron tripods. They should not be shown leaning against a wall otherwise they would fall over and roll around. The reason we don’t see or find iron tripods, is because all iron and steel was stripped from constructions and household utensils, to make swords axes and hand held weapons in the dark ages. We only assume the Roman Empire was barbaric based on our industrial and technological evolvement from the middle or dark ages. But in fact the Roman Empire was refined and advanced. So I guess one has to wonder why civilisation regressed during the dark ages. Also I would like to mention that you can not have shipping civil works construction that is so well planned, but that facilitates timber battalion like ships. One then wonders what their shipping construction was really like. Probably made of metal and streamlined with huge anchors and chains, that probably rusted and decayed from lack of maintenance after the fall of the Empire that consequently led to a huge economic recession that killed massive populations of people. I like this graphic reconstruction but it is not complete or well thought out because building and construction is only one aspect of a civilisation. And building and construction is just one form of technology that responds to the industrial needs of population growth. If a civilisation can be so creative with it’s construction works, how much more creative can it be in meeting industrial product needs. For example the English and Commonwealth Empire of our modern times, could not have occurred without first the development of industry that then needed to establish shipping trade routes throughout the world.
That is also the reason why bronze statues are very rare, as bronze was fused to make coins, cannons, cannonballs etc. and why the Bronzes of Riace were a miracle when they were found deep in the sea, where nobody could steal them. The city of Tunis was built south of it, with materials taken from Carthage's buildings, which is why not that much has been left of such a once large city.
