I just got a Falcon 16v5 to add to my show. I have a Kulp 8 with beagle bone. Are you saying because they are two different controler types i will have to get a raspberry pi? I was hoping just run the network cord to the falcon from the kulp.
What address do you use for the Sonoff Basic R2? I tried both 10.10.7.1 and 10.10.7.2 and neither one works. And you didn't explain why the hotspot needs to be that specific name and password. Shouldn't that not matter? For iPhone it's always iPhone.
Have another question what is running on the Pi that is sending the video to the screen, etc.. I have a Pi setup to run FPP and it has a top-hat that is a driver, I plan on using a 2nd Pi for the video because it will be little ways from this one. will 2 the 2nd Pi be running a native Pi OS or will it also have FPP on it and where will the video be loaded on the on the Pi that is being host FPP or on the one doing the video. Thanks again
Thanks for this video, it's the closest I have found to what I am trying to do. TVs used to have a "last state power on" feature. We have a security Monitor in a lobby that we want to power on when we flip the switch on for the lights so no one has to find the remote (yes, completely dummy proofing). I'm looking for a device (even if i have to do it myself) that will power on the tv with CEC commands since tvs don't have this feature anymore. Basically, if X in-line HDMI device receives power, send power on command, and vice versa. Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Hey mate - very informative video. I'm running two WLED controllers and one Falcon. You quickly spoke about setting up a WLED controler and pushing the sequence out. Could you elborate on setting up WLED with FPP. Any tips are apprciated. I have my sequence ready to go. cheers
Love your leaping arches!!! I have now embraced making holes in the PVC to secure them more and it makes for a straight line. You are the first I have seen doing leaping arches like this and will do the same!!! Looking at this it also makes it easier to find issues like you found.
You could always directly upload the files, but this is the easiest way to get a batch of them done and on multiple controllers. Animated Holiday Lights is not the easiest of hobbies, so just make sure to ask questions where you are stumbling.
You don't use a 4 to 1 balun with a dipole unless it is a folded dipole. A dipole has an impedance of about 70 ohms. The balun is for antenna that has an impedance of around 300 ohms. By the it is Bal - Un, not Bay - un. It means balanced to unbalanced.
I have followed the steps as described, but see nothing when I try a test or play a sequence. I've doubled checked all the settings, looked in the logs, upgraded to latest FPP version (8.x-master-287-g03fbc510) but not sure how else to troubleshoot. Any tips?
This was so helpful! I’m at the spot where I need to figure out my IP address and WiFi. I plan on using this for a wearable. Will there be issues if I don’t assign the wireless to it?
They are actually a long story, but Gilbert Engineering is who made them. I ended up getting them from a fellow light entheusiest that passed away and his family was gracious enough to let them live on in my display.
Shoutout to the Twin Cities. I just started my LightShow journey December '23. It's been fun. But the FM signal had struggled. My concern of building a too good signal is I literally live next to am Airport. My backyard has the Airport fence. But I'm getting too much static, so I will try building something like this much possibly smaller.
I made one tuned to 97.3 MHz using the same materials and method. With 500mw it was clear out to 1 mile and still detectable on my car radio at 1.5 miles. I only wanted it to reach my garage. It was fun for a moment but I limited the use of it to 3-5 hours on a weekend because I lived in a small town and didn't want to attract attention. I've moved since then and use Wi-Fi now when I'm outside.
It is more than likely a channel issue. You will want to make sure you have the proper channels in FPP and Xlights. I have ran into this before as well and just re-uploading the outputs and sequence usually fixes it.
I live in the south and PVC deteriorates quickly due to the UV and heat. Built my Dipole out of Electrical PVC conduit and it is UV resistant. Cutting your FM antenna to the frequency you are going to use prevents what is call Standing Wave Ratio. If you have a very efficient antenna where most all of the RF wave goes out and very little comes back, this prevents problems of damaging the transmitter. You are correct about the FCC. FCC goes after the pirate radio stations not the seasonal light show. If it does interfere with other stations, they will send you a cease and desist letter.
You do realize this antenna will likely make ANY Part 15 certified transmitter non-compliant with Part 15.239, which governs the allowed field intensity operating under the FCC regulations. While a user may escape the grasp of the FCC if they are indeed operating on a temporary basis for the duration of the holidays, all it takes is one complaint if your signal is interfering with a licensed broadcaster to have an FCC field inspector investigate and file a Notice of Unlicensed Operation (NOUO) against not only the operator for the documented property owner, thanks to the P.I.R.A.T.E Act of 2020. Due to this act FCC fines have increased upwards of $2 million dollars! My site has been assisting academic and hobby broadcasters harness the power of Part 15 compliant broadcasting for educational and hobby endeavors. You should at least place a disclaimer on your video as somebody who ignores the possibility could potentially find themselves in trouble with the FCC should they continue to operate in a non-compliant manner.
I have fpp on a rpio2w, and it never finds the sounblaster on startup. I always have to go in to setup and change the audio output from dummy to sounblaster play 3 and reboot, and the reboot takes FOREVER. Sometimes it doesn't even find it then and I struggle with it for 30min doing power cycles and replugging and rebooting until it finds it. Very frustrating. Any suggestions to improve this?
What if the status display dropdown option doesn't have the LCD screen size I have? I purchased a 3.5 Inch LCD Touch Screen 480x320 for a rasberry pi 4. Any help would be appreciated. I learned a lot from all your videos. Thank you
I know this video is older…hoping you can help. When I use the WLED effects it’s skipping like 15-20 lights on every output. Xlights sequences are fine…tests from the controller work fine. But the WLED plugins don’t light up correctly. Do you know why?
I ordered the UHF converters in your link and all six of them have different resistance in the center wire. So I just did it the old fashioned way - soldered it :) and it works great. Thanks for the video - great help.
Excellent...thank you so much for such detailed. Couple of questions, obviously we do not want a long cable from transmitter to antenna, what what cable length range is acceptable? Second question.... Will this set up work well on 1/2 PVC? Thanks!
Overall the size of the PVC's diameter doesn't matter a whole lot. Really it just comes down to ease of assembly. 1/2" would probably work but assembly will be super tight. I ran 15' of coax cable between my DiPole and the FM Transmitter. Sounds great. I am sure you can probably go longer.
I am having an issue where I think my pi is trying to boot up from the usb that has the soundblaster 3/fm transmitter hooked up. I can't access the pi over the network after bootup until I unplug the soundblaster and then the pi can be accessed. Weird?
This might require a larger discussion or it's own video, but my intent is to use a remote rpi (potentially several) strictly to output to a projector. Obviously, the media file being played needs to be copied to the pi connected to the projector with the correct virtual matrix assigned to it, but does it also have to exist on all other pis as well (master plus any other remotes) the same way the sequence file does? I'm looking to best optimize sd card usage.
The remotes only need to have the file that is playing on the remote. The caveat is that they need to be named the exact same as what is on the master.
Great video. I have my pi connected to my switch through Ethernet. However, when put in FPP/ or the IP address nothing comes up. I do see FPP listed as a wireless option, but I though i could connect through ethernet for set up. Is that not the case?
You should be able to connect via ethernet for setup. You may need to go into Xlights or your router to find the IP address that was assigned to it for the Ethernet side. If FPP is showing as a wireless network to connect to, you may have a bad network cable. Ultimately the only time FPP will show as an access point is if it doesn't have a network connection (wireless or hardwired).
I stumbled onto this video and I am glad that it found me. I had no idea about this feature and it will streamline my FPP workflow for sure. Thanks for taking the time to share this tip I'm going to go give it a try right now. I Love FPP! 💥BOOM!!!💥™
Hey , Thanks for the walk through . Where to get those spiral trees? . I see GE selling some Coro type spiral tree but the one in your walk through looks different kind.
Great video! My house set up is similar to yours. How would you recommend I set up the lights around the garage doors? I also have the lights wrapped around the garage edges like you do.
@@djizzy12 I use a PI as my show master that doesn't connect to any pixels. The PI multisyncs out to a few kulp controllers spread throughout my display.
