Sorry to report, that skyline may have to change. I reported that Renaker had five tower and a three storey office project due for the planning decision and Lamington a tower hotel project, this week. I can confirm they were all passed yesterday. Mcr is going to change.
Awesome news. Excited, particularly for 71 storey tower in New Jackson, that would be the new tallest in Manchester. Hoping for some diverse and iconic new style of designs. Thanks for sharing these kind of news with us.
Put yourself on guard, this is going to be a busy week. 👷🚧🚧🚧👷. Council decide this week to give the green light 🟢 or not to the following projects. By Renaker, 5 towers and an office. 1). A 71 storey tower in New Jackson. 2). Two 51 storey towers. 3). Two 47 storey towers in The Green. 4). A three storey office development. Also due this week, a decision on:- 1). The Lamington Hotel Tower incorporating the Union Bank building (derelict) in Piccadilly touted as a green, environmental hotel. So this week it should be known if these six towers and an office building are going ahead. 👀 Near you, the MCFC football extension is having it's floors concreted. Also just beyond at the "Bullring" there are plans for 400 houses. You may know MCFC have a company called "Manchester Life" with the city Council both owning 50%. This was responsible for building thousands of dwellings in Ancoats abd New Islington. Holt Town is another challenge. The council want to build 4,500 dwellings.
It looks impressive, I’ve seen the changes over the years, I just wonder how youngsters can afford £1100 rents, (or more plus service charges). I’m not against this progress in fact quite proud being a Manc, just expensive to live especially with a family
I've always said that liverpool with its waterfront would rival new York or Chicago if we had people with the vision of Manchester councillors but alas we don't we have illiterate morons holdings us back small minded pure bred bastards
Mark your card with ownership change. 👍 Remember the Vision residential development project on Whitworth Street West, facing the Axis Tower? Went into administration. Property development company TRi7 has bought the site. *It already has planning permission for a 37(?) storey tower. *Does it go with the original project or go for new build! Does it become another student tower? I can see the latter. One to watch!
Fantastic video! I have now lived with the wonderful people of N Wales for around 35 years and looking at this is quite mind blowing. What I want to know is what all you people are actually doing that pays the bills?
Manchattan is coming along nicely. So glad to see the world's first industrial metropolis transform itself into a vibrant exciting 21st century wonder.
Please Note BDP have just announced plans for a new development in Greengate, Salford. This is a 42 storey co-living tower due to go to the planning committee next month. It also includes involving refurbishment of railway arches. Mcr Central Station and Mcr Exchange Station shut the same day. Central still exists as an exhibition centre. Exchange, actually in Salford, was demolished above ground soon after closure. It once shared the longest platform in Europe with Victoria. It is these arches that will partly be used. Plans are in two separate submissions.
Lush! 👌 Old and New. Chorlton Street Mill, Cambridge Street near the Acer Tower you show. You will be aware of the oft tragic past Mcr has had, from the Siege of Mcr during the Civil War onwards including "Peterloo". Does the name Hugh Birley mean anything to you? His family and he owned Chorlton Mill. He led the infamous charge of the Mcr Yeomanry at "Peterloo" one of Mcr's darkest days. The first fatality was an infant boy ridden down by the Yeomanry and whose broken body was taken to the steps of St. Peter's Church on Peter Street. St. Peter's Church sadly was later demolished above street level and marked today by the stone cross in St. Peter's Sq. It was designed by Thomas Wyatt, who designed Heaton Hall. However below street level the crypt is pretty much intact. Allegedly it houses the tomb of Hugh Birley.
One of the only cities in the UK where it's easy to find a smart modern apartment with concierge etc for a grand a month. This is what we need as the population approaches 70 million - not sprawling housing estates or Victorian terraced houses.
Great video & an excellent historical document. What we are witnessing today it will b "Old Manchester" in 50- 100 years time. History keeps repeating itself & this is a excellent visual document/ reference for future generation.
It's not a bad thing, cities in Europe were built for populations that were much smaller...now the populations are much bigger you can't keep expanding outwards you have to build up eventually. But of course the best architecture from old buildings should always be kept or restored for historical reasons
we don't care let the Brummies believe whatever they want, let the rest of the UK say Manchester is the sixth largest city in the country all we know is that Manchester is different and it's ours and we love it. In fact we love all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester.
@@rinkydinkmcruk Yes I know but it's not worth arguing about it, as I said let the rest of them think what they want. Following your comment Birmingham is actually the biggest city in the UK when using outdated definitions
