Enjoying your videos and will be taking many useful recommendations from them when I go there next month iust a quick question on your drone footage, is it fine to fly a small drone without any bureaucracy? I have a mavic mini which is generally okay to fly in most places without any problems, some places need it registered etc but that’s it
@@kilbsy glad you are finding the content useful!! The drone footage I use is not my own , it’s 3rd party under license. We don’t have space to take a drone and were concerned about regulations, bans in some countries we want to visit, and having more lithium ion batteries than permitted in air travel.
Thks for this video! Were you mainly walking around the old town ? If so, it looks quite interesting and pleasant. How is Sarajevo compared to Tirana ? If u can only choose one city to stay, which one would u choose ? 😊
There is standard ice cream in the old town, like gelato.. and then there is actually a Turkish ice cream seller. You can call it what you like, across the balkans the exact same setup exists... this is Turkish ice cream. Whether is is in Herceg Novi, Montenegro.. Sarajevo, B&H or Skopje, Macedonia. The development of this type of ice cream, the traditional stand and outfit, and the games the vendor plays with the customer... originates as a Turkish thing.
Yes. Reasonable prices is relative, but in terms of the balkans, yes it's around average to be honest. You can certainly pay less than in the old town. Have you watched our other Sarajevo videos?
There was pretty good demand in Sarajevo. The problem presented across the country is the cost of McDonald's compared to local food. The food was expensive for the country. The country isn't wealthy enough to support much in the way of international chains. Looks at BK in Mostar as an example.
Great Video guys ! Looks like a fab place to spend some time. The little steets and bazaars and buzzing atmosphere reminds me a bit of one of my fav places, Marakesh. Looks very clean, too, no trash around. What about dogs? Is there a stray dog situation there or not 🤔 Love Turkish tea as you say same as black tea, very refreshing. With you on those crazy small coffees, miniscule cup with about a cm of coffee in it just doesn't work for me either 😆 Burger looked fab 👌 Had a BK here last week in Saranda, place was heaving ! God it tasted good after so long though 😋 Enjoyed the trip. Thank you.
You don't see many stray dogs I only saw one in two months in my area. I live here 6 months a year. It's a European country, if you leave the old town there are many modern buildings that are very new and and non touristy. I'm from a Mediterranean country that has many bigger and way much older old towns than the one here, so I avoid tourist places like a plaque. Also my other home town is Los Angeles. It's (Sarajevo) a nice quiet city with nice polite people.
Yes it is clean for the most part. We didn't see much in the way of stray dogs, but there are cats. It is nothing like the situation in Albania which is by far, and I mean - by a large margin - the worst in the Balkans so far. There are strays and packs of strays here and there in Kosovo and also in North Macedonia. I am sure that BK did well. It will probably make a big impact in Saranda.
Yes that is cold. Today in Skopje 17 and wind, and then later today it has been raining and very cold. It feels like winter, not sure I can tolerate these temperatures and rain for long, lol.
Great content. We arrived 3 days ago, staying in Kodrra, so that’s a plus. I’ve had a head cold so have been resting up with Netflix and a book. The €20 taxi fare from the port was a bit of a shock. Looking forward to getting out to explore today.
@@user-jg9xy2ux4g 20 euro fare from ferry port at promenade to your place in kodrra? Absolute ripping of people off. That is not the local fare for a taxi ride in Saranda. Shame on them exploiting people.
Cash is still widely used and in many places the only thing accepted. It is a cash society in many ways. Will be a long, long time before cards are widely accepted. Lots of small cafe bars, restaurants... they run on cash.
That is for 2 people. Rent is very reasonable, and I just want to possibly stay 1 to 3 months. Living in the PI for 5 years, I have learned real fast not to purchase overseas and rent. Save your money, time, and heartache and move around Europe. You can live on the cheap anywhere, especially if you are solo.
Why? Chinese food is available all over the world. The problem that exists in most of the balkans, is there is very good food variety. If you stay there long enough, you get completely sick and tired of eating their traditional food. Belgrade at least has some of these alternate options. We have lived in a place of the world that has every imaginable cuisine available. Moving to places that doesn't, means you seek out these things when you can. Cheers, thanks for watching.
There are Russian flags all over Belgrade, even the city legislature has Serbian and Russian flags all around it. There is a strong connection between these two countries historically.
True, the only stealth fighter jet ever downed was the (invisible) F117 during the 1999 Kosovo War; fortunately the pilot survived and was extracted by the USAF rescue unit. After the war was over, the F117 pilot Lt. Col. Zelko, and the 'battery commander' Col Dani actually met in person but this time as civilians. They became good friends and their meeting was televised by the Serbian main TV station - sometimes the reality is stranger than the fiction.
Biggest problem with the coast -in Croatia/Mne/Albania-is that it gets absolutely swamped in July/Aug with visitors, this is when locals make money Another problem for me is how ugly the development has been-was in Sarande in 2004,unspoilt more or less then but it was obvious what was, going to happen ..and it did.
Im originally from Bosnia and Lived in the US for 23 years. i moved back to Bosnia 2 years ago. And all i can tell you is that i wish i had moved earlier. Very little Crime, People are friendly, and so much more too it its crazy! We love it!!
My parents are from Bosnia but I was born and raised in Canada. I'm moving to Bosnia this November for good. Canada is not the same Canada I grew up in, Trudeau destroyed it.
@@citrine6469 well, nothing is the same as when people grew up in it. The people our age in B&H aren't living in the same place it was when they group up either. Not sure how old you are, but I think many factors have changed Canada... and government policy under Trudeau can be considered as one of them.
Sarajevo is not really multicultural. Catholic and Serbian Orthodox Church stand there just for the show and to falsely portray Sarajevo and Bosnian Muslims as tolerant and multicultural. Also Sebs and Croats don’t see Sarajevo as their capital and only go there if they have to mostly for business. Bosnia and Herzegovina is western colony and a really bad place to live for Serbs and Croats. We would rather be part of Serbia and Croatia and live together with our people. Unfortunately because of the geopolitical interest of the West we are stuck in this corrupt colonial country with no real prosperity and future. We always have to be careful about Muslims because their only goal is to make Bosnia and Herzegovina national country for themselves and to strip Croats and Serbs of their constitutional rights as equal ethnic groups. They want to make us minorities. That is the real truth about Western Colony Bosnia and Herzegovina
Excellent video. Thank you ! I do love a mix of history, architecture, shopping, and eating. That food looked fab, I am salivating and still 3 hours till dinner 😄 Keep up the great work 👍
Albania's economy is expected to grow 6-7% in the next couple years. Hope this gem doesn't become californicated (overpriced, overpopulated, overrated) too soon.
The entire balkan region has similar costs. The biggest risk in my view in terms of cost, is the rise of the LEK to the EURO/USD which is something the Albanian gov't is not incentivized to stop.. as most of it's debt is in Euro's and this reduces repayment costs. It is the only currency in the region that is experiencing this, and there are a few theories to why. To me it presents a problem long term for foreigners.
McDonalds left two years ago beacuse the owner who had a licence had a big debt in bank and the owner did some corruption and they took him a licence, now there is a copy called BASH
@@gregmiell3037 on the coast there can be lots of sand pollution in the air from Sahara dust storms in the spring early summer… bad enough to coat cars. If you can’t tolerate cigarette smoke, forget the balkans entirely. This is a huge part of social culture, it is everywhere. Tirana is polluted with exhaust from cars with seemingly non existent emission controls and 2 stroke scooters. Hope that helps.
Years ago I was in Chair, Taiwan, talk about crazy traffic and lack of infrastructure, it was crazy. Found I would be able to live just about anywhere.
Thks for this detailed intro to Mostar! As you travel thru Albania, Montenegro and now Bosnia, did you face a problem with inhaling second hand cigarette smoke, as you go about ur everyday life ? I understand that the Western Balkans have a smoking culture. Which country is worst ? But I am guessing that in the coastal cities of Montenegro, this should not be a problem because tourists should out-number locals there :)
Cigarette smoking is everywhere, on patios, inside places to eat (not all). They are all the same. Tourists are generally from other balkan countries, or countries where they would like to smoke on patios, so it's happening all over.
During the Yugoslavian era when I was a little girl and a teenager, you could hardly see a woman covered like in the Middle East in Sarajevo. Maybe some old women dressed like that. Most of these covered women nowadays are very young. Weirdly, things go backward there now. Bosnia seemed more modern then than now. Besides, Sarajevo was once the center and hub of Yugoslav pop and rock music, along with Belgrade. Many great bands came from there. Look at them now! Looks more like Tehran than some European city.
Don't you Serbs tell us about backwardness. You who wanted to introduce "civilization and culture" to Sarajevo with grenades from the hills. We are a democratic country where everyone has the right to practice their religion.
@@vordan7111 always negativity in the comments. Everyone knows what’s going on under the surface in Albania. Does not affect visitors. Thanks for watching , people should still come, very safe place to be. Try our America and drug dealers and see how that goes.
You spend the whole video talking about the taxi costs😅looks like you didn't have much luck. You were lost most of the time in Sarajevo...It's an amazing city if you know how to navigate, especially if you stay short period
You should buy a watch, then you will see half the video time is not about taxi fares. We have 2 more videos to upload about our time in Sarajevo. Maybe you can watch them when they are out. Thanks for watching.
@JayandSarah your videos are fine,I love them. In my opinion, you only didn't look relaxed enough to enjoy the stay in Sarajevo.. Best of luck, and keep doing the great job
