Very stunning performance! The song really touched my heart; it boosts courage and confidence. It's true - God has raised me up when I am down. Very well-written by the composer/s and perfectly presented by the artists.
Secret Garden / You Raise Me Up ( In Seoul ) When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary; When troubles come and my heart burdened be; Then, I am still and wait here in the silence, Until you come and sit awhile with me. * You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains; You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas; I am strong, when I am on your shoulders; You raise me up: To more than I can be. * There is no life - no life without its hunger; Each restless heart beats so imperfectly; But when you come and I am filled with wonder, Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity. *
This is the original. «You raise me up" is composed by Rolf Løvland on piano. Most people (outside of Norway) think its Josh Groban’s original song but it was composed by Løvland as an instrumental song. Lyrics were added later and Secret Garden have the original. The first time "You Raise Me Up" was performed was actually at the funeral of Løvland's mother in 2001. In 2003, the song was picked up by the American star producer David Foster after he heard it from Frank Petrone of the company peermusic, who had the rights to the song in the USA. Foster recorded it with Josh Groban.
When it started, I thought that a violin piece was the offering. Then the bloke wearing ill-fitting leather pants arrived. Then someone else (wearing a tarpaulin) intervened. Then an entire choir took over. And all the while, the other violins stayed together in the flock. So, I don't know what I am looking at. It is all too confusing for me. I shall now have to watch the same song sung by Helene Fischer, in order to re-orient myself.
Originally performed by Johnny Logan..... Indeed Mr Eurovision. Due to one or another stupid idea, Secret Garden chose Brian Kennedy as the singer, to avoid "confusion" with the EUsong contest. But, Kennedy however represented Ireland in the song contest of 2006...... (which was of course 5 years later) See Johnny Logan : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W75gzPQ9-UQ.html
The first time "You Raise Me Up" was performed was actually at the funeral of Løvland's mother in 2001 and as you say he had asked Johnny Logan to sing on tape.
Many versions of this don't include the verse 'Some times I think I glimpse eternity' in them, and no one has been able to tell me why. I think it is the best and most important verse. Such versions seem incomplete.
One of the best songs ever written. You know it almost never got finished. It sat first a line time. Someone said it was too much like Danny Boy. They thought so themselves. Most happily and thank God, they decided to go for it.
