Brother a nothing great video your spot on with your exact points on training I too allow my wife to help with my release for the same reason . Keep the videos coming
From my past experience I found that a huge contributor to being part of the shot anxiety is not being in good archery shape. Not being able to control the draw and holding ( acquiring the target) long enough to properly work out breaking the shot. This is where blank bailing can be so important. I have a huge bag target set up level with my shoulder height in my game room. I can work on all my shot processes anytime to keep me is shape. Being in shape will allow you be in so much better control. IMO, it’s an overlooked aspect of TP?👍👍. Waiting on more of your thoughts on this nasty arse affliction.
That's a great point Tim. I can see how not being in shape could set in motion a whole different level of stress on the body, in turn causing more chaos during the shot. Good stuff man. 💪🏼
I developed reverse panic. Got my bow 3-4 years ago, shot every day leading up to and during the season. No panic when I got a shot. Practicing less and less, only 3 days before season this year. Missed my first opportunity. Second opportunity was a horrible shot placement, but got the deer. So to your point, no piece of gear will fix it. Only repetition and diligent practice.
Super interesting. That's awesome you picked up on that. Usually it's the other way around. When folks shoot too much they get too much in their own head, start overthinking, and the panic sets in. This is a great example, and a reminder, that everyone is a little bit different and this isn't a cookie cutter process. Thanks for chiming in. 👊🏼
A couple weeks ago, I would have said hands down the index. However, the more I shoot this Ibex, with the bowhunting specific features it has, I can see myself hunting with this. It's the only hinge I'd feel comfortable doing so with.
I really loved the Road to Bow Season and I can feel that this series will be great as well. Great handful of tips to solve what plagues us all. Looking forward to the next one
Josh, another awesome video with great knowledge & information. Thanks so much for taking the time to make these videos & sharing. Wife & I are both dealing with a little TP as we just got our new bows about 4 mo ago. I can see all your points & totally get it, THANK YOU !!! Just got done with your book also. Absolute wonderful book ! FYI first book I have read in a while not a real book guy. You rock brother 🤘🏼Hope to meet you someday as I’m in San Diego & started planning on some AZ HUNTS
Thanks so much for warching! Sorry to hear you're dealing with the panic. Not fun! And glad you liked the book man. Got another one that will be available shortly. 😎😎
Stan releases have a safety pin that lets you fire the release without it actually opening the jaw and releasing the d loop. You can work through your shot and it is amazing how much you will flinch as it goes off but with just a few practice shots the flinching goes away and your actual shots will improve instantly.
An old head at my job taught me how to do it in 2-3 shots. Works every time. Just take a shot at the target until you see a hit, adjust the crosshairs to match the POI and youre good to go.
I’m born and raised here in Tucson. We always pack the water in with large bladders ahead of time at a spike camp in our hunting area. People don’t seem to realize that a lot of these natural water sources are contaminated with arsenic and other harmful chemical runoff, due to all the mining in and around a lot of these hunting units. Ya ain’t gonna catch me drinking out of those sources. You can easily burn through six liters a day in the hotter temps. I always have a full 3 liter in my pack with electrolytes, and a full Nalgene at all times.
I hunt unit 36 and when I tell people I got my last deer at 88 yards they call me crazy. Eastern bow hunters have no idea how hard southern AZ bowhunting is.
Just got this range finder and Vortex does not do as good a job explaining the HCD vs LOS mode as you just did. So, thank you for this review. Just subscribed.
ok, so, you're not wrong, but this is'nt the video i was expecting when i clicked, i was expecting theortical physics and math and nuclear fallout and all that, ie differing terms of glassing a country XD dont get me wrong, im not mad about what i got from the vid, you have good advice, it just wasnt what i was expecting
Oh, it would work just fine for that. I use it for hiking all of the time. In the end, it's a quality backpack that feels great. It just also can handle a grip of weight, haha.
I am an Arizona Resident also. I also bought a PSE Omen about the time you did. I have property in Eastern Oklahoma and my son and I both shot a buck there. I was lucky and shot a 9pt with a bunch of junk around his bases. He was nearly 8 yrs old. I giant in my eyes. Have yet to get the mount or measure him. It is truly something when it all comes together. Blessed we all are to get to enjoy this! Thanks for sharing your story with us!
Top tier review. Absolutely subscribed. Thank you. "....I gotta' go bear hunting now." Copyright that, and put it on a T-Shirt...what a way to end a conversation 🙂
Josh, loved the film! Loved the three tips! Totally appreciated your transparency because too many people think top tier hunters like you are perfect. You have ups and downs like the rest of us! Last, love the car camp setup! I do the same thing when I want to stay mobile! That front seat ain't bad.😂
Buys a rifle, scope and rings and calls it a “build” 😂 shoots +MOA and says should be good enough. This is what’s wrong with this whole long range hunting craze.
Haha! I agree actually. For what it's worth, it was all me on the shooting front. The gun is a shooter. Took a long-range class not too long ago and am shooting so much better now. Amazing what some formal instruction can do. Definitely - MOA now, lol. Hope you have a good season man. 👊🏼
SO LOUD. There were two things going on there I found out. One the mod on those cams seems to like to come loose easy, which then causes a clank sound on the shot. Two, and a very simple fix, is the football head on my drop away cord was actually hitting my quiver on each shot. There is a mark on the backside of this quiver from it.
Josh, once again, another great video. I live 50 mi. East of San Diego & we have similar conditions out here not as dry but close. Thanks for the great info , your videos rock 🤘🏼
For the moment can’t really spend crazy amount of money but i want to get the Diamondback HD 16-48x65. I want it just to spot deer at distance and observe the wildlife around. Then the Viper HD 20-60x85 came around on offer so I can’t decide which one to go with… I wonder if you had any experience with any of them. Great video as always.
Either will do what you want. The Viper is definitely gonna be better quality glass though. If you can swing it, that's the one I'd go with. If not, the Diamondback will work just fine.
Subscribed! Very helpful video. What’s your take on hunting coues deer during early archery season (Aug-Sept)? How do tactics compare to rutting coues bucks? Thanks!
This was super helpful! Glad I came across your post on IG pointing to this! One thing I remember a guy a REI telling me is he aligns the sternum strap with his armpits, so I set the strap so if it wrapped around my body, the top edge of the strap cuts right across the armpits.
Just blew up on my first backpack hunting trip...spring bear in southern AZ. Knew there was water at our destination (about 8miles in)....but didn't carry enough water to get me there. Cramped up about half way in, and had to slam water and electrolytes to get the cramps to stop....had to turn around because I was another 4 miles away from water (we hoped) :( , and had basically exhausted the 4L i had on me. This is great info....next year, I'll pre stash some water.
Awesome buck there brother. Speaking of brother I am glad that you got to spend six days chasing Coues 🦌 with your brother. I cherish any moment that I can hunt with family. Congratulations on a great start to 2024, hopefully 🤞🏻 it continues especially starting with archery 🏹 spring bear 🐻
