After a 35 year hiatus, returned to scale model building in November 2013. Mostly military aircraft kits, the F-14, F-16, and Harrier series being my favorite jets, along with the F4U Corsair, and the A6M Zero variants for piston aircraft. Other scale model interests include Star Trek, BSG, and sailing ships. When I returned to modeling, I watched many, many, many modeling video out there getting back up to speed. I started posting videos of my builds as a way to give back to the modeling community. Hope you enjoy the subjects presented and derive some enjoyment and knowledge from them. Thank you.

a beautiful kit . The only issue I had was that the markings had a slight shine to them , even though I glossed before applying , and used the good old Sol & Set , and used a matt varnish afterwards
I just started on my first 1/48 scale model from AFV club( which was another 1st) final version tiger 1, i was very impressed more detail then my 1/35 russian m4a2 by tamiya. It Included photo etched parts also. Wondering how tamiyas smaller troops looked as far as detail, nice job on that sherman👍
This is a very helpful video for dealing with this so-so offering of the F-16 from Academy, really great tip for dealing with that painfully noticeable step and gap on the underside of the wings, thin sheet styrene and 3M Blu glazing putty saves the day there! Other than that, it assembles well enough but odd they show a belly tank on the box cover but that can be easily corrected if you don't want to use the massive 370 gal drop tanks. Happy modeling!
I have the 1:45 scale model of this ship and the Greek Gally in the same scale. This is cool but its a tad small for what I like to do. I plan to 3D print these much larger.
price is an important comparator - and in the UK, the retail price of the Hasegawa kit generally exceeds that of the Airfix. In general, I find that Hasegawa parts fit better than newer mould Airfix but the precision required to get the best from their mouldings is very high, Airfix a bit less so. Airfix decals are better than the newer Hasegawa being made by Cartograph, a world class decal manufacturer. but in the end, individual preference will determine what's bought.

The standard Airfix boxing included parts for the GR7A and GR9A with comprehensive decals for 3 schemes and highlighted some of the colour differences of the individual airframes. The Airfix kit also includes optional open or closed inlet doors on the intakes. It was a well thought out offering that respected an aircraft close to the hearts of the British public. Also a vast improvement over their previous offering, although that wasn't all bad.

I have built the 1/48 Tamiya and the 1/48 Hasegawa. I would try the Academy..what do you think about it? The panel lines are ok or pure garbage like on the 1/48 Academy Tomcat? What do you like of this kit? What do you hate of this kit? Thank you!

Nice video! am about half way through building Mk.XIVc spitfire from academy and I was wondering what color the landing gear struts and spinner on the propellerare as I couldnt find the tamiya paint number. What paint did you use for these parts? I was also wondering how you get the correct and even amount of yellow on the prop
Regarding undercarriage bay and strut colours, the late Edgar Brooks used to say that once that area had undergone maintenance requiring stripping of paint, all bets were off as to what would be applied afterwards. I would go for an aluminium or steel colour for the struts and the underside colour for the wells. The camouflage scheme on the model is the Day Fighter Scheme. Main colours using Tamiya paint would be: Upper surface disruptive pattern: Dark Green - XF-81 Upper surface disruptive pattern: Ocean Grey - XF-82 Under surfaces: Medium Sea Grey - XF-83 Spinner: Sky - XF-21, perhaps lightened a touch with white Cockpit Grey-Green: Cockpit Green (IJN) - XF-71 Blade tips and wing leading edges: Flat Yellow - XF-3 ('ballpark') If you can find a way of measuring a scale 4 inches from the blade tips you can position some masking tape chord-wise at the appropriate point. I have a Scale Aircraft Modelling scale rule. It's graduated in 3-inch intervals, so I would measure out a scale 6 inches using the 1/72 rule, as 1/48 is 1.5 times 1/72. According to Morgan & Shacklady, RB159/AP-D was delivered in September 1944, which would be after the invasion. Such photos as are available of it show only the abbreviated stripes below the rear fuselage. Nice looking model all the same. With any luck, I might actually finish my copy of this kit one day!
