I towed heavy with my 4.8, but I have a 4l80e trans. If you have a 4l60e, I suggest using the tow button, or you can burn the overdrive.

My 4.8 has been running wild in deep south alabama for 370k and ive towed with it, mudded with it, lost races in it, cut cookies at walmart, parked it for 4 months straight too. 4.8 is unkillable

Thank you showing how everything works, plus comparing types of John Deere engines. Bought mine used without a manual. Listening you I know I bought the right one, for I use it more as a mini tractor than a mower! Thanx again!

I disabled the reverse blade disengagement 'safety' feature, and now use the yellow button for a horn. A forklift style horn works perfect. As far as the blade disengagement safety system goes, the older mowers didn't have it, and the new mowers don't need it as long as you are paying attention to what you are doing and not texting while mowing, or mowing drunk. Lol. It's also considerable additional wear on the PTO clutch when you forget to press the button over the course of time.

Pull it! I've pulled over 8,000 lbs with my 2016 tacoma trd v6, from kremmling colorado down into denver. So I did go up and over Eisenhower (the gauntlet) no issues!

From someone with over 2 million miles towing it’s not a race. I’d bet this tacoma with that load is faster to 60 than 90% of semi trucks.

Could a 4.8 tow an enclosed trailer with a car in it , do you think with upgraded gears , tow bar and suspension and brakes ?

I don't know, if it's a one time deal and you're not going too far it can be done. I think about the transmission. If it's a half ton truck with the 4l60e, I would reconsider the idea.

After 6 years and 320 hours, it’s finally starting to give me an issue. The deck belt keeps breaking and John Deere wants $90 per belt. You can get them aftermarket on Amazon for $30 though. I’m not sure what’s causing this. I’ll update when I figure it out

I recently picked up an 04 Sierra 1500 ext cab 4x4 with the 4.8L and I’ve been contemplating if it was a mistake cuz i need to be able to tow my car that weighs 3500lbs on a 1500-2000lb trailer plus another 250-500lbs of tools & equipment for a much longer haul than 250 miles… After seeing this I think im gonna have a truck for sale here in a few. 😩
@bostonmonster58
@bostonmonster58 6 месяцев назад
A 2500 or even a 6.0 would be better. You could regear to 4.10 if you’re on stocks, which would help a lot, if you don’t want to deal with getting another truck.

This video was made when his John Deere X350 was new, it's now 5 years later and I hope it's still running strong? I have a JD x350 but I have the 48" deck which I have to say never gets clogged on me. I also have the 22hp. Kawasaki engine which John Deere used for years. I also use the Power Chute Bagger for the lawns, mine is Zoysia grass which is thatch prone so don't want to double the Problem with dead grass clipping. I agree with you 100% on the oil filter mess when changing it, but my deck has for rollers and is easy to unhook so just move the deck and rags on the frame helps. Good Video.

Thank you for watching. Yes, I still have this same mower 5 1/2 years later. It now has 320 hours on it. I haven’t the first issue with until here recently. It broke its original deck belt. I bought an aftermarket one on Amazon for $30 being John Deere belt was $90. It lasted 5 hrs then broke. So I figured it was maybe because it was the cheap one so I coughed up the $90 for a John Deere. That one lasted 3 hours, and broke. I haven’t figured out what’s causing it, some of the bearings on the deck have play/howling sounds. May be time for a compete deck rebuild. The mower owes me nothing. It’s been fantastic.

I have the same truck. I pull 3500lbs occasionally. I never use the cruise control - even when not towing as it is obnoxious trying to maintain speed in 3rd gear @5000 rpm. When I tow I use 4th gear (sport mode, no ECT, no cruise) and let the truck bog down and let it be. 55-60 MPH is the sweet spot for the 4 cyl when towing.

The 4.8l can do 7-8k towing but not on a regular basis. But it needs upgrades to the hitch , axle gearing, bigger brakes. and best if do it's towing on a manual transmission not automatic. If looking to buy and plan on doing even moderate towing just get a 5.3, 6.0l, or the huge 8.1l. The 4.8l was to get better gas mileage and very light towing.

i added a huge transmission cooler, massive aluminum transmission pan, and "super springs" in the rear along with load range E tires. i have pulled 10k locally without a problem, take advantage of 1st gear for starting from a stop and keep it out of overdrive, make sure your trailer brakes work well and you have a good brake controller@@jesusarroyo651

A 4WD model wouldn't have done much better more on that terrain, tires, and tire placement batters. Those stock tires are bumpy, I know, have had plenty of Hondas. Need tires with better stability, stronger sidewalls, and tread. Do, that with the right amount of tire pressure, and a little practice, you will figure it out.

The towing capacity of a pickup is not rated based off of the engine.
@Outdoors-ty8hp
@Outdoors-ty8hp Год назад
Yes, and no. Example- I have a 2019 Tacoma 4 cylinder 4x4. It’s advertised to tow 3500 pounds. The V6 version is rated at 6500. They’re both the same trucks. Transmissions, suspension, breaks, etc. the limiting factor of mine is the hp/ ft lb torque. Mine ‘could’ do 6500, but you risk damage to the engine/you cannot get safely up to speed.

I got an 03 Silverado LT 4x4, 5.3L with the Z71 package and I think it was code GT4 for 3.73 gears, From what I could find online the max tow capacity is 8,800lbs Its a little bit difficult to figure out if that's accurate though, because its a fiberglass step-side truck.. I can tell you from experience I've owned C30 1 tons, and they road smoother than this Silverado does, this thing will send you through the ceiling if you hit a pot hole. So I'm not exactly sure, its stiff as hell though? like a 1 ton... I can't drink coffee safely in this thing I know that. Anyway, point is I wanna use it for towing now not sure if there is a better way to narrow down the exact weight it can tow "legally"
@tacticalidiot175
@tacticalidiot175 Месяц назад
It will be in your user manual, these gmt800 trucks came with the ratings. (I think the fords did too). Then multiply the rating by 0.8 and that will be your safe tow rating.

Man i was honestly just thinking of some pro-comp 17" 97series wheels with 285/75R17s and a set of 4 Monroe load-adjusting shocks which generally give about an inch of lift in compromise for a stiffer ride almost like a solid axle truck.. I've drove both solid axle and tortion setups and kinda like a bit of a stiffer ride in a truck as such, but I'm not sure they'd fit and do kinda expect rub but I like tires around this size bc they seem almost perfect to fit these
