This channel is all about photography and video. From equipment reviews to the creative process and "how to" tutorials. From behind the scenes of shoots to quick tips and hacks that I have learnt over the thirty years I have worked as a professional photographer. I will share examples of my work and talk about the lessons I have learnt from my photography and experiences working all over the world for a wide variety of clients.

Whether you are a complete beginner, a keen amateur of someone considering making money from your photography. Actually maybe even seasoned professionals will find something entertaining and of use here. As a small channel I am really keen to involve the audience so do please reach out if you have an idea of a video you might like me to cover.

If this sounds interesting then please do consider subscribing. I will be making fresh content every week.

Enjoy your comments. I've had the 1.4 for 15 years? Since then, I've moved up many levels. Currently shooting with the R6. My go to lens is the RF 24-70 f/2.8. So why do I keep the 1.4 in my bag? Do I need therapy?

I too wander round with a bag full of random primes clanking together while shooting the vast majority of pictures on a standard zoom… it’s a condition for sure… but when the time is right and you want that wide open magic.. nothing else comes close!

I am just an amateur photographer, but I love this lens. I’ve used it for wildlife, landscape and portraits. I recently used it for a friend’s daughter’s senior photos and while I did not use as many photos from this lens as I did a 56 mm F1.2, it still produced some wonderful shots. I purchased it secondhand and have experienced zero problems with it.

Great real world comparison , i have just purchased the RF 14 - 35 to replace my ageing EF 17-40 which i had to adapt to fit the Eos R . Looking forward to receiving it and seeing how i get on with it. Like you i leave on the lens correction in lightroom so never think about it as a issue , most lenses have distortion to some degree. Glad Canon produced an ultra wide for the RF mount that is rectilinear as being able to use this with my filter kit was a major consideration as a lot of 14mm lenses are so bulbous you can use standard filters with them.

Personally I own the Canon EF 50mm f2.5 Macro lens and it's definitely recommended and it's better than the f1.8 versions. The 50mm f2.5 has the same design as the 50mm f1.8 mark 1 but with much better close up focus macro features. the autofocus will be a little bit slower and more noise but it's just as accurate as the other versions of this lens. the optical performance is nearly the same as all the f1.8 versions and the f2.5 is just a small difference so that's no problem. I think this f2.5 version is the best version of this 50mm optical design

I’ve been shooting with the Canon R5 since it came out but recently started using my Mark IV as a 2nd camera for concert photography. R5 is higher res and a little more dynamic range but when you get a good shot on the 5D, it can be exceptional. Especially with prime lenses and some post processing. It also pairs well with the 70-200. Wide angle shots low key can suffer from noise when you illuminate and use of lens corrections can cause bad moire. And I need to spend time with noise reduction and crushing blacks. 5D is a pro camera that has great colors and tones. Classic shooters can master it and wow people with the photography. The computational photography future with AI software is getting insane but hand people a manual film camera and there’s nowhere to hide. Also, I own the Manfrotto view finder you feature in the video, going to try it for stills. I’ve gotten used to reviewing in the R5 viewfinder.

A question if I may Roy, I've used cameras for almost 50yrs now & began my semi pro life with Olympus OM film cameras & moved to Canon DSLRs because OM didn't keep up with the digital revolution IMO, I always liked the optical viewfinders compared to the LCD viewfinders, although those I've used were on consumer level cameras, basically how good is the viewfinder display on the newest Canon mirrorless cameras?

I have the vivitar 3900 (potato masher) which I liked, back in the days. I liked the handle as you could easily carry it with your camera. I wish someone made a similar handle mount flash bracket that you could mount a speedlight on it. Something that would keep your flash and camera together but give you the option to detach the flash and lift it up.

Fascinating video, thanks Roy. I am a hobbyist photographer who shoots mostly birds down by the river or in my back garden. I have a 90D and an R8. I absolutely love them both but I find it easier to get great shots with the R8, the eye detect auto focus is brilliant! I also struggle slightly to get the exposure spot on with the 90D, it’s usually a bit over or a bit under. The 90D has a canon 100-400L usm ii attached permanently where as the R8 now has the RF 200-800. I treat my 90D like a classic car now, I love using it but the R8 out performs it in all areas so has become my daily ‘Driver’.

Only my opinion. There are lots of other flashes out there and ultimately we each have to find what is right for us and our own individual use. For me the 430 just does the job that I need it for. Small, light, easy. Effective. If what you have works well for you then that’s very cool. I’m sure that 600 packs a bit more of a punch but I have never needed more power than the 430 can deliver. Might pick up an el100 to play with as looks rather cool. Thanks for your comment. All just personal opinion! Many thanks. RR
