My goal is fairly modest-to listen to DJSTTDJ with other DJSTTDJ fans. Yet I’m certain it’ll never happen, seeing as how I don’t know anyone who listens to (or is willing to listen to) DJSTTDJ
Interesting fact (from an interview with DSTTDJ on the Predatory Wasp website) is that she has never actually sampled the show Sabrina the Teenage Witch in her music (though she definitely has done video samples in her music videos).
One of the most ridiculous music takes I've ever seen was some dumbasd describing "You Are Freaking Me Out" by Samiam as being a Foo Fighters clone. This despite the fact that Samiam was formed not only way before Foo Fighters even existed, but around the time of Bleach, before Dave Grohl even joined Nirvana. If anything, it would be the other way around. But I wouldn't say Samiam is even all that similar to Foo Fighters at all. Real head scratcher for sure
Really think you’d like some of my albums bro, make some old crystal castles type shit, I know I don’t have the most audience but lmk if you ever get to fw any!! Look up Party House- Ethan Starr
Humbly suggest “2012-2017” by Against All Logic for some sample-based dance house. Impossible to listen to that thing and not have a great time. If you dig it, you also may like the same artist’s big album “Space Is Only Noise”, released under his actual name (Nicolas Jaar). Super groovy and atmospheric… perfect for late night listening. 👌
You can't cancel that man, it's's freedom of speech. If you want him cancelled you would regret it as thats the end of your right to voice your own thought.
Not many people would have expected Tyler to end up taking a chill neo-soul and R&B approach to his fourth album after making several boring and controversial ones previous to this; let alone for it to turn out as good as it did. The crisp and vibrant production of this album mixes so well with nearly every single feature on here; Estelle delivers an awe-inspiring performance on "Garden Shed" and Rex Orange County has one of my personal favorite (yet simple) choruses of the decade on "Boredom." Though this album is largely R&B, there are still fantastic rap flows on absolute bangers. For example, A$AP Rocky plays an integral role in "Who Dat Boy" and has great chemistry with Tyler on the track. "I Ain't Got Time" has one of the most memorable hooks to any Tyler song up to this point. There is a perfect mix of calm R&B songs and energetic rap songs, all with a refreshing neo-soul sound bringing the whole album together. To me, Flower Boy is Tyler finally making the music that he's always wanted to; he's tired of making the same old rage bait and immature songs from his earlier career. It's the first time we see him as more of a genuine artist rather than just another rapper. this is basically my average review; intro that gives the album context, paragraph about the production and certain tracks that stand out, and then my general thoughts on the album 4:08 also yes, this is by far the worst thing about RYM
I haven’t heard the Tron Legacy soundtrack, but I pretty much have the exact same ranking as you. Like, Discovery is my favorite album of all time, so it’ll always be their best in my eyes.
Thanks for this! The first DJ Sabrina song I heard was "Love Myself" from "Makin' Magick II", which came up in my Spotify Discover Weekly feed; I must have listened to that song more than a hundred times, and went on to become a diehard DJSTTDJ fan. It's hard to pick a favorite, but "My Baby, I Come Unhinged" is closest to my heart because I listened to it for the first time during a particular happy moment. Two things to add to your comments: First, DJ Sabrina has a very high batting average; there are not a lot of duds in her discography. Second, how could you not mention her videos?! They're meticulously edited, take the retro nostalgia to a whole 'nother level, and further elevate already excellent tracks. The "Dance Now" video is a good example.
Appreciate your comment! Thanks a ton. Much love! And you’re right I hadn’t dove into her videos much at the beginning, I don’t normally seek out music videos and I wish I knew why. But you’re totally right they fit perfectly and feel like the perfect addition to feel like you’re sliding through the collage that is her sound 🙌
So bloated between the singles. For me at least it's like watching The Walking Dead. The first the middle and the final songs are good the rest feel like stream filler. Hiss is perfect, the next best is Break his heart. The rest I can't even remember except from Cobra. Which is ... not the best I expected from her, she's still so great tho.
That’s def fair I think there’s some strong hits here and there but I can’t help but feel slightly let down with all the hype I had. Some songs just feel like deluxe tracks and not in a good way
Sooo jealous omg that must’ve been magical! I’m glad I resisted my temptations to listen to her unreleased leaks. The reaction to the upcoming album will be SPECIAL 😍🙌
the way you structure your videos with the reaction and the commentary being split into dif clips and mashed in different orders is really original imo, great video.
I think this album is in good hands. Her brother, Benjamin Long, has worked with Sophie in the past as her studio manager and collaborator. She trusted him before her untimely death, and I think she’d be happy to see these tracks getting an official release even if they’ve been tweaked from the demos, but that’s a given considering they needed to be mixed and mastered. I heard that she wanted to do a pop centric album after OOEPUI, and this single suits that theory well. She’s always appreciated pop music. I’ve seen people say this studio version lost the SOPHIE-esque charm, but I disagree… it’s quintessentially her.
I read that after and was so glad to hear close family is involved, that's always a great sign. And I totally agree! This sounds very much in her vein, doesnt feel tainted in anyway the more I listen. The percussion and the sound of those chords?? Like that's SOPHIE!!! Love it
The crazy thing is marjority (if not all) of the synthwork are just presets and arpeggiators from her synth as well as a few of the drums being garage band loops. Built off of so many different aspects that isn’t grimes original thoughts yet she made an album that sounds like nothing ever heard before. An allegory for creativity and media consumption in the real world EDIT: Also just remembered… the genesis drumloop is the same as OutKast- Hey ya! Doesn’t sound like it at first listen but it’s pretty much the same lol. Also pls listen to her KEXP live session!! It’s dope
